As an ENTP it gets rlly annoying in multiple choice, because I always have the counter argument to every answer, so I always take so much more time on them

Seriously! INTP here, but for me it's more that I can find different interpretations of the question that match up with several different answers. I had this great math class where we could define our own interpretations of the questions and then answer accordingly, and we were graded on the consistency between the two parts. I know that prof pretty well at this point, and I'm pretty sure he's also an INTP haha

@H G you might be ENTP. Its not a matter of social intra or extroversion. As an ENTP I don't fall into the social butterfly category but rather its a matter or intra or extroverted thinking. Do you like thinking within established logical frameworks or outside of established logical frameworks. Do you respect the established way of doing things and think from a default position of how can I work within this system to make it better or do you think from a position of fuck this system i wanted to break it apart and mould something better out of nothing (a bit extreme but you get the idea) To put it in filmmaking terms. If you're trying to become a filmmaker and your first instinct is i want to work my way up to being the CEO of Warner Bros and make them the best studio on the planet you're more likely INTP if you're thinking is I want to create my own studio out of nothing and make it the best studio on the planet you're more likely ENTP. Either way there's good characteristics for both.

Ahahaha, you got me! Just glad the cops didn't... But if they did, I suppose I could play the "colourblind" card, right? Does that apply to pedestrian crossing lights? Jokes and traumatic past experiences aside, I do spend a little bit of time calculating the risks associated with breaking a rule, but usually no more than a few seconds... Like the light... Obviously this will mean I gleam over some of the detail and accuracy that my introverted friend would more likely absorb, but hey, would they have had enough time to make it through that traffic light and over that exhilarating speed bump? We really need more speed-bumps with built in sounds when you go over them. Overused analogy (and of course that's all it is lol), but I'm sure it was helpful. It also depends on the circumstances. If it's one of those unspoken rules or social phenomena that the questioning of would be considered taboo, and as such there's no threat-level risk associated with it, I'll most likely just kick it in the guts and dump it in a trashcan like the artificial garbage it is.

"Most introverted extrovert". I think it depends what makes sense to us logically and how developed our Fe is... Or how much time we spend in our heads and observing the social atmosphere rather than interacting in it. As a home-schooled kid coming into high school, I was definitely much more of a quiet observer to begin with... and I also had better grades. But once I decided to start talking with classmates... Ne took the proverbial wheel. Stimulating conversations! Playful banter! Bad grades! The way I see it, and I think this would apply to other ENTPs and people in general, it's where your priorities lie. If you want to become more socially extroverted, outgoing and confident, you'll learn ways to and experiment a bit. I think experience is the main teacher with this one, just try using some Fe and see how it goes. Take mental notes, especially if you're one of them textbook argumentative types lol. If you prioritise seeking truth, information, or just your own individual hobbies, then it makes sense you won't want to socialise as much and spend more time pursuing time alone. Nothing wrong with either, just a matter of opinion.

This is the most accurate take on INTPs I’ve ever heard. I remember telling my mother that I would never get married, and was going to college for Computer Science, because computers are predictable, they make sense, and they have an answer - unlike humans. Then I discovered typology and realized that there are concrete, scientifically justifiable explanations for human behavior and it was mind blowing to me. I’ve been deeply studying this ever since. I’ve almost gotten to the point where I can have functional relationships and mutually enjoyable conversations with my siblings. Still aspiring to achieve that. Wish me luck.

I'm (I think) an INTP, but I really resonated with the "can't pick a favorite book/song/movie" from the ENTP. My theory behind this is that INTPs like consistency and unchanging systems, and there are always new movies and songs coming out. I do have favorites when it comes to things like colors and foods, because those are the types of things that don't change. Great vid as usual!

I feel like I can relate to both aspects of ENTP and INTP. I’ve taken over 6 different variations of tests over an interval gap of 3-5 days atleast 30 times now, and frequently fluctuate between INTP or ENTP. All cognitive functions tests and I only go for the most “accurate” tests. In all my tests, my Ti and Ne are almost always EQUAL…. And my Fe is only slightly higher than my Si with my Se being weakest. Though I resonate with a lot of INTP I also resonate a lot with ENTP characteristics… especially with being able to socialize and connect with people. I am very much capable of that and have been since I was in high school, I just willingly choose to distance myself from people because I find them annoying. I also think primarily through a logical lens, and don’t really make decisions based on personal values… which I don’t really have many personal values now that I think about it. I am very understanding and always argue both sides of an argument. I like understanding things in depth, however, and love to learn for the sake of learning. Ultimately, I’m left unsure of what type I truly am

In the socionics system, INTPs have what is known as "blindspot Se" meaning that it's technically their worst function. It's also referred to as the polr function. There is a video somewhere on the channel titled something like "16 types worst function". It might be worth checking that one out and seeing which worst function is most applicable to you. That can really help you narrow down your type when you're stuck between two of them ~ Nathan

Look up and understand the concepts of 1st and 3rd function looping, being in the grip of your inferior function, demon functions, and your blind spot/worst function (which surprisingly isn't your demon function). Your weaknesses will show you the answer when your preferences won't. INTP's tend to be the most introverted of the introverts (only close match is INTJ's) and also tend to be the most "absent minded" and will often get called out by their friends and peers when they zone out and everyone else in conversing. Why? Because our function loop is Ti and Si, so since Ti requires introverted thinking we will get sucked into thinking about something that's happened in the past (Si) or a problem that needs solving, and will have a blank look on our face like we're high or a yogi in mahasamadhi. ENTP's loop is different; it's Ne looping with Fe. Here's a good explanation I found for them: When ENTPs get in a loop, they chase after ideas but they're also easily swayed by outside opinion. They get stuck in idea-generation and buzz from the people around them without accepting input from their thinking side

Based on this video alone, I think I've been mistyped as INTP for years where I may actually be an ENTP. Just the fact of not wanting to commit to anything is quite meta on my experience of not wanting to settle on INTP. I used to strongly identify as INTP abut after watching this I might be ENTP, what made me think this was the chaos part. I love chaos and when something new happens, even if it’s bad. Like if one of my family members got arrested I would just be so intrigued rather than worried because usually the same shit happens everyday, so when something new happens I always get excited and happy, even though I usually don’t have the balls to actually make something different happen. Also I identify as an ambivert, because in most situations I keep quiet if I’m in a place or group with a lot of people, but I enjoy coming up to individual people who I find interesting to talk to. I think ENTPs are more likely to enjoy that sort of chaos daily. I really like world shaking stuff happening and it really makes me sit up and go enthusiastic, but if that happens daily, I think I’ll be annoyed and won’t even care anymore.

God, ENTP makes so much sense! I've genuinely been angry with exam feedback because I do psychology and you need such specific things in your answers. Heck, wording things slightly wrong can turn your potential A grade into an F. Misunderstand a question a bit so you mention stuff which is slightly what isn't being asked for? You clearly know nothing about psychology. Like, "Explain how the psychodynamic approach explains personality". There are multiple psychodynamic theories which explain personality in my course. So I assume I have to broadly talk about all of them. Well, no. The question was secretly asking for a detailed (ew) explanation on one single theory. But you have to guess what that theory is. So, I accidentally showed more knowledge than I was supposed to, and got no marks for my answer. Great. :) And yes, screw feeling comfortable on choosing your values instead of changing like the weather.

If you can't be predictable with how you respond by the groaning lectures and show uniquely seperate understandings of the topic, it'll be unmarked. It seems to me that the type of personality can change according to the mood. Like what kind of cognitive functions are there? For entp and intp, they are the same, only they stand in a different sequence. So what prevents a intp who has had a good night's sleep on a day off, who has cleaned his teeth and washed his head since morning, who has eaten normally and is fastidious, who has understood the importance of human relationships in our biological form of social beings, from simply taking and... *bang* turn into an entp. After all, the 16 personality types of Maers-Briggs are just a theory based on how people behave in a given situation. Extrovert/introvert, sensory/intuitive, thinking/feeling, planning/adapting - all this is variable. Yes, someone likes to communicate more, someone less. Someone plans more, someone less. This is what the personality type is built on. But all this is so relative that sometimes it ceases to make sense. In general, to all Maers-briggs fanatics who cannot stop typing everything in a row, I will give advice: "pay attention not to one of the specific 16 personality types, but to one of 4: I forgot what the names are, in short, purple, green, blue and yellow." Because the types of personalities within these four differ so little and depend on such relative and variable things that it's just silly to try to meticulously pinpoint one of the sixteen. (changed) I am an analitic who has tried to define my personality type unambiguously. And sorry for google translate.

It's so refreshing to hear someone that understands just because you are an extremely introverted ENTP doesn't mean you aren't one or you were mistyped. I am strongly ENTP,but I'm extremely introverted and although the idea of people is very appealing actually being with them is like pulling the plug on my energy reserve. I'm drained within minutes. Kind of like buying a food that looks good in the store and then you eat it and it's disgusting. People look good, but they aren't good for me. ENTPs aren't all social butterflies, but that doesn't make us less ENTP.

lol this reads as very INTP-ish (though of course that's not enough to type-- I just find it funny that these are pretty much my same thoughts about myself, but in reverse as I'm an INTP who comes across as pretty ENTP-ish when around other people). INTPs are also notoriously indecisive, and it's pretty common for INTPs to doubt their type, too.

Leanne Miron I also identify with the “detective” and “explorer” type. I don’t know if it matters that much... 😂 I know I do reach a limit with detail, if I determine/assume that further details are just, well... details. I can fall down a critical spiral if I’m working on something unto exhaustion, and then upon returning to the job find it as close to perfect as possible. I’m pretty extroverted when I’m comfortable with people, or when performing on stage. I hate giving or taking orders.

As an INFJ with an ENTP roommate, this guy is insane. He's clumsy as hell, doesn't have any boundaries and pure chaos is the best way i can describe him. However, i also understand him deeply, his struggles. After I decided i was gonna try to embrace how he was like instead of getting pissed off silently, I could see how similar we are. Both of us being intuition doms with Fe/Ti in the middle, we actually share a lot of traits. I understand the ENTPs difficulty with Fi, deeper relationships with other people, their organization and choices in life. I wish this description will serve as the basis of these types and not the stereotypical cool nerd vs typical nerd distinction I often see in the comments. I’ve also wondered before the basis on how each types were described and often find it unrealistic, I wonder how you get to these conclusions on the types cause its more sensical. I really like your vision on the MBTI system. I was always a bit dismissive of personality tests, untill I did this rather short personality type test which had some really great points about how I interacted with the world. Really interesting that with this small amount of questions you can be this accurate, but at the same time, a personality/human life has so much more dimensions which you can never include in a test. If I can speak for my own situation. I had a traumatic experience following with long term sickness. This changed my way of behaving with the world to introverted. Now as I'm finally getting better my extraverted tendencies are coming back. Again, Great work Nathan. Keep sharing those thoughts, I'm really interested in how you look at these things.

Dude according to MBTI, that is impossible. You may have taken the 16 personalities test or is going by its guidelines. ENTP: Loves debate and exploration of ideas. Less interested in settling down into a fixed conclusion. INTP : Not really interested in debate but very interested in the exploration and more importantly codification of ideas in their head. More comfortable with settling into a fixed view regarding the functioning of the universe. Which do you relate with more is most probably your type. Of course there is more details involved but this is an important stepping stone to differentiate between the two types.

this is all bs.. intps aren’t a more ‘rigid’ version of entp but a more deep one entps focus on bouncing their ideas off of people, and getting others’ reactions to them they want others to praise them for being so called creative, and therefore try snd say anything interesting that comes to mind however, once this thing/thought has been said, they simply move on to the next, hence their extraversion- who mainly wants to share with others, not always going very deep and being much more surface level in where the thoughts came from intps think more about their own personal ideas and creations, all branching off from the crazy thing of a brain within their heads long term projects, acquiring skills, mastering or being the absolute best at something is more interesting to them, since they value these things internally, and aren’t focused on what other people think they would never want others to ruin their beautiful, inner world, and thus would rather think more freely to themselves in secret, hence the introversion their dreams in life are theirs intps impress people without constantly trying to

I look at these personality tests as more of a fun pass time to ponder about myself, although its interesting when you talk about extrovert and introvert not mattering quite as much. Out of curiosity I took the test for the third time last night (half a sleep mind you) and I got INTP. The interesting part is that in highschool I was INTP, but when I was in college I turned ENTP according to the test. I had more social situations where I had to be quite involved for several years. After that and things quieted down in my life, I guess I moved back into introversion. So I inference that that E and I factor may be subject to change throughout ones life. Not that other parts couldn't, but that seems like the most fluid one.

I have really enjoyed these videos. I feel like I toggle on the ij/ep axis, but I'm ultimately an intp (IDK... maybe an entp). However, as I like to say, all models are useful and none are accurate (that precision and understanding thing!), and so I see how I have other traits outside this framework which Sometimes muddy the best fit and MBTI. For example, I am a "creative," in writing and design... I can get pretty emo in prose and also really require an aesthetic environment, which is a bit s. I am also an execute/explore in 5 dynamics, and I think of myself as a high action, highly practical personality, looking for ideas based on if they're useful. Yet, I far more identified with your other video's intp rather than intj. However, now I am fully infatuated with you, specifically, and I will watch all the videos because in some universe, it is 100% possible we will have a grand romance.

I appreciate the depth you went into here. Usually, I just hear things like "When you're not sure, you're an ENTP", because apparently INTPs are more introverted then most introverts. And I used to be, but I got sick of Ti-Si loops, and have learned to embrace Ne and Fe more. In certain social environments now, I don't get drained anymore. Supposedly types aren't suppose to change though, so I was very baffled. Your description made it quite clear that I'm really just an INTP that is becoming more social. Chaos is ultimately what drains me, in fact its that element of social interaction that forces me to leave and recharge, which is why I can talk one on one for hours now or get energized coming out of philosophy class. The issue isn't people, it's external stimuli. I So clearly I'm not an ENTP. Problem solved. Thanks for keeping it simple.

This happend to me exactly. I think your bad functions can grow as they do you merge into an XNTP later into mega type with Ti Ne Si Fe all equal. ESFJ ENTP INTP and ISFJ are all same but with different default modes...

@@multicrogamer Yeah, I could see that. Others are more shadow focused as well. I know an INTJ that is firmly on his way to being able to access Te, Ti, and Ne on near equal levels as his Ni. So I could see him becoming a sort of xNTx mega type.

If you are sure you are definitely one of these two types, but not sure which one, think about the Fe/Si. Do you feel your Si is pretty good but your Fe is annoying, etc? then you're intp. If you feel you are better with people, but less organized, etc, then you're entp.

I’ve always thought that I’m an INFP or an ENFP but today I have realized that I’m actually an ENTP - in my well protected shell. Like, wow…

I'm an intp ( I think? [Based on points I mostly agree with on YT videos and internet research about cognitive functions and their relevance to me] but still confused if I'm an entp or infp, and still questioning this mbti classification, at the same time actually enjoying to hear the points about things that makes us humans, I'm so torn lmao 😭) However, unlike what you said about INTP being reliant on fixed systems, it actually triggers my anxiety to think about the concept of a fixed system - in humans (I find joy in living by witnessing the spontaneity that creates cuteness in human interactions). It makes me restless that there is a system for people and it might not excite me anymore if I get to understand it. So I'm watching videos like with this lingering anxiety). I found myself being comforted by the idea that phenomenon that involves humans and their behavior are something that cannot be fully systematized, bit by bit. Hence I calm myself by just telling myself that there are great amount of things left to be known and will never run out of things to discover as new things will emerge out of all the existing things. I go by this quote that says "life gets boring when you stay within the limits of what you already knew"(The exploration on the understanding of things and ideas in this material world) YET sometimes, I also go by this one as well, "Meaning makes a great many things endurable -perhaps everything" (Maybe this one gives me comfort when my Ti Ne suddenly gets hit by my Si and makes me overwhelmed) These 2 really give me a pat on the back. The concept that there is the unknown and the unexplored, that there's a lot of things to live for -to keep knowing, to keep on understanding ⊂(´・◡・⊂ )∘˚˳°

I think it's funny how similar are ENTPs and ESFJs when one is considered a ball of chaos and the other one is considered the one taking care of everyone

I have a trick, everytime I'm asked what's my favorite that and that, I say something random. People get really confused and distance themselves from you if you don't have favorites. Everyone has favorites! Then they change their favorites. It's madness and random.. just like my fake favorites😂. It works like a charm and they don't suspect a thing.

Ok, so I am probably an ENTP. Because my friend is an ISFJ and we are literally polar opposites. I also do enjoy chaos. I have been mistyped as an INTP a few times while I was trying to test the consistency of the MBIT tool and possibly debunk it. But it seems to be pretty accurate just by seeing people like you, really analyze the whole theory of these tests. I approve of this test and seems like a cool way to understand each other a little better.

What happens to INTPs when confronted with inherently fluid frameworks, the kind which only work when chaos is included as part of the scenario? Do they implode, explode, spontaneously combust, immigrate, emigrate, collapse, or what? Do they ever learn from chaotic experiences, or is that outside of their experiential platform parameters?

This interestingly sheds a lot of light on the frustrations my ENTJ friend and my INTJ self have with each other, too. Te is a different beast than Ti (as well as Ni and Ne), but a judging dom vs a perceiving dom still have a lot of the same problems in communication 🤔🤔🤔

It's interesting. I was always determined as INTP. At the same time, I am pretty chaotic, my list of interests often shocks people, searching for cross-connections is my favorite thing, and all the best things that I did I did under the stress. But I am undoubtedly an introvert. Sometimes extremely. I always felt that there is no way that I can be an ENTP.

I have taken so many personality tests and I have always been identified of the personality type as intp all the times, and yet even though I have all the introverted tendencies when it comes to people I still behave like that of an entp like constantly roasting people, witty deadpan remarks, many many unplanned projects, getting bored quickly after starting any project, no favorite shows because of too many choices, difficulty in playing anything on netflix as I waste all my time just choosing what to watch and ultimately failing to watch anything there, hate for routine, at least 50 tabs open in my browser, not wanting to settle, jumping fluidly between all of them, doesn't care about the details and precision as much...but then I sometimes find myself being in my intp mode where I am slow in taking action, think about useless stuff a lot, analyze some topic with a lot of time even if I have to finish something else, commited to only peculiar types of routines if only I find them interesting and inside my comfort zone, zoning out and absentmindedness...wheww! So I am just gonna think of myself as a XNTP for the time being now :D Thanks for coming to my ted talk!

Me quite literally being the hybrid. Tested INTP a year ago (51% introverted duh) and does really think deep, also turns everything into a math problem to solve, and obsessively observes patterns, but then after the inner "calculator" to solve these math problems were built, I start to favour chaos. I firmly believe I strive in chaos and I really like debating with other people as well. However I haven't gave up stability, and its really something I like a lot to this day. I feel like I put myself into chaos and I start to miss stability lol

It has been getting confusing as i am INTP with high Ne. My Ne has developed massively in my 20s, I really like exploring new things and cross-pollinating ideas. I am aware I can sometimes lack foundation and my ideas come off as vague compared to other INTPs. But I still think Ti is my primary function. When I do not know well about something I use Ne, I rely on pattern recognition, but when I really get obsessed over something and wants to know everything about it, my Ti shines.

The problem is that chaos excites me but then I get absolutely NOTHING done... or if i do this is accidentally and what I did to procrastinate (I only rly work on what I'm supposed to if there's not enough stimulation n so I need ANY intellectual challenge, so then I do the work). I am a bit more people-focused than the regular INTP but I do get exhausted and taking care of them is not healthy to me mentally. And I'm not as well spoken as the avg ENTP, I can stutter and get into meandering tangents, completely losing my listener, very often. Maybe that's just ENTP with mental illness, or a hypomanic INTP? Hell if I know. Though I am very good at lying and spotting weakness, maybe that is an ENTP trait. And I can't imagine not interacting with people for more than a day. I do get tired quick but I can't be completely alone. Can I somehow be an ambivert lmao.

If I/E is on a normal curve, which is undoubtedly true, most people are in the middle and would probably step between the two types at least occasionally. The issue is that when ENTPs see ENTP-typed celebrities or historical characters, they are comparing themselves to people who probably are a couple standard deviations above the mean on extraversion or intuition for that matter.
