So spot on. I've heard the "just trying to get attention" one a few times, myself. The fetish assumption doesn't even make sense for me as I am asexual. I couldn't care less about getting off. Another thing I've heard, a common backhanded compliment, is someone saying, "you're starting to look like a real woman now!" Uhh, thanks for acknowledging my passability, but I AM a real woman, thank you very much! And so are people who don't pass as well as others. Passability is not a determining factor of womanhood. "You live a disgusting lifestyle!" I don't do anything differently today than I did before transition. I'm an artist, a writer, I study philosophy and psychology, I have coffee every morning, I binge watch Netflix, I go for walks, etc. There are no trans-specific activities. It's not, in itself, a lifestyle. It's just what we are. I almost rented a room from a guy a couple years ago who had another woman and her child staying with him. The man was fine with me staying, but he had to ask the woman if she was fine with it. Hearing that I was trans she said no. Her reason? She worried about her child. She basically believed that I might be a pedophile. That's one of the most disheartening and disappointing things people believe about us. It's insulting. I am immensely defensive of children. I don't even condone spanking. To have someone accuse me of being a potential sexual predator of children is just flabbergasting.
