Ishihara won the Kodokan and the Senbatsu last year. If I'm not mistaken his tokuiwaza is actually the seoi-nage, especially the standing variation. But as you've seen he has other techniques as well, especially the osoto, he's very good at it. This last like two years he has improved massively. In the time he was a junior he was normally overshadowed by Tanaka Yudai. There's this channel 柔道 練習、試合の動画 , that does some compilations, especially of the Japanese, and there's one for Takeoka, Ishihara, etc for last year's Kodokan, it's worth checking out.

That juji looked like blue had no shoulder control. The armlock only works if your hips and knees are sufficiently isolating uke's shoulder. You can try it yourself at your gym; if uke can roll his shoulder forward, he can have a ton of backwards angle to his arm with no pain or damage. Hell you can try it yourself standing still. Put your thumb forward and use your opposite arm to hold your shoulder from moving forward. Try to extend your arm backwards. Now roll your shoulder forwards and down with your thumb still facing forwards and you will see how much more backwards mobility you have. This is why it is imperative to have your knees close together and your hips as far under uke's shoulder as possible when applying juji gatame.

^^^ This! ^^^ Also Ishihara's thumb was pointing to the side not up, it is difficult to apply a lock when your wrist is in a side position, since it is placing your elbow to the side as well and you are able to move it. You can try extending your arm in front of you and try moving it once the thumb is pointing up and when the thumb is pointing to the side. When the thumb is to the side there is a chance to escape the lock by moving the shoulder inwards, not a chance for this move when the thumb is pointing up.

@@marekdabek8278 This is a big issue with many applications of juji gatame that I see for sure. When we drill it we are made to pay close attention to our knees, their thumb position, and maintaining our posture so we don't have to "hip up" to try to finish it. It is obviously a bit different in a competition setting but to be this close and not finish the armbar is a shame. Just a few small details make all the difference.

Katsugi waza is a category of techniques in Japan. Basically anything with an elbow out instead of elbow in.
