Uchi-mata-gaeshi is a Kodokan/IJF technique! This makes Uchi-mata the only technique with two counter techniques with their own name - Uchi-mata-sukashi and Uchi-mata-gaeshi. What I find even weirder than names such as O-soto-gaeshi is the huge number of almost identical techniques: Uchi-mata-gaeshi, Harai-goshi-gaeshi, Hane-goshi-gaeshi are all official Kodokan/IJF techniques, but are almost identical.

I don't like people only talking about the throw names all the time. He did this throw or that throw and they should call it that throw instead, it really doesn't matter. Grips, the kuzushi, those are the important things and the throw is just the finishing touches.

Making a comparison with previous competitions, I have a slight impression that there is a decrease in technical capacity and an attenuation of aggressiveness. I hope it's just an impression.

Tushishvili's Osoto on Toth in team competition was great, worthy of mention I think. Sagaipov is from Caucasus region like a lot of competitors in Arab nations. Uchi-Mata-Gaeshi is also a classified technique actually, it's ashi-waza instead of te-waza like Sukashi.

5:55 that is a sumo move popularized by Ura in this modern era. Go have a look at him. I dont know the name of the technique but he did it in a match. He's the guy with the pink mawashi.

It isn't really the same throw. Ura doesn't lift and load them onto his back to slam them down, rather they are leaning their weight on him, he removes the support, and then tips them over backwards. Ura is the man though!

Really liked Kim's counter on that hugging situation where the opponent was bent in straight angle and hanging on the jacket then just sitting down on the mat. I feel like that's the only appropriate outcome. I don't know if it was Augusto's uchimata being off at every point and setup making it impossible to adjust to say harai goshi, or if it was just Smetov's excellent read robbing everything from his uchimata. The swinging leg deep in and down, dodging the leg as if ouchi gari, then lifting the elbow up to the sky. Fantastic read from Khyar, very judo like to notice the weight and balance change and take advantage from easily falling them. And seeing Hristov's bad ouchi gari attempt where he was just hung on the arm and had no control over the posture punished nicely by Dzitac, I was thinking "I like to see these hanging plays punished, but I wish we got to see the drop 'spamming' punished as well". And then you rolled in the clip of Herkovic beautifully punishing that very typical modern lazy drop. And seeing a proper newaza transition at the same time. I still wish throws were awarded points more scarcely if they're a hot mess and promote transitions to and punishes by newaza more. I'm in the Travis Stevens team when he reviews international matches and is baffled by some of the plays that would be so easily punished by quick newaza transition, but people don't even try them. I hope you make some sort of "expected winner/reigning champion", "challenger" and "black horse" introductions to judokas in the olympics in perhaps each weight category. Because I'll be honest I have no idea who are competing outside a couple of names and knowing people and their story or current year really makes it worthwhile and exciting to watch. They talked about that with weightlifting as well how the sport has trouble in that nobody's creating those narratives and story lines that make it really interesting for spectator sport side.

@@aqiria last year at the annual judo referee seminar we got this explanation for this situation. if the tori takes more than two steps when performing the technique, eg. low ipon seoi nage, the action will not be valid. since then during the competition we had a lot of such situations and we did not score such actions. stupid rule...

@@vladimircu021 What seminar was that? The one that IJF hosted this year had no such things mentioned, and when they were discussing these type of situations, the focus was only on the continuation of the movement from tori, not the amount of steps, the same with rulebooks.

In your comments on the Bashaev v Turk fight you ask why we don,t see this more often. The reason is that under our current IJF Competition Rules it states that it is against the spirit of judo “ 9 Intentionally fall backwards when the other athlete is clinging to his back and when either athlete has control of the others movement.” The penalty is hansoku- make. Bashaev should have been disqualified for a dangerous act - not given ippon!
@aqiria
@aqiria 7 ай бұрын
I think that applies to newaza back-takes, and uke wasn't really trying to cling to his back here, he was loaded up on hips.

@danielmontilla1197
@danielmontilla1197 7 ай бұрын
It's "cauliflower ear", very common in contact sports. It happens when someone smacks your ear and it fills with blood. You can drain the bloating with a hypodermic needle, but martial artists usually see it as a "badge" of sorts, because you need to be going pretty hard at it to get cauliflower ear.

Bashayevs two ippons here are both ridiculous and bad. First, the backward shift didn't look like he was in control, all his opponent needed to do is trun his body a little and pretend to pull back and they would win instead. Judge should've not given a score. No control and no momentum. The second one, stepping over your opponent head. If he wasn't like 50 pounds heavier, they would bounce him 5 feet in the air like nothing, not to mention, throwing someone that is already on the ground is not very effective. All he needed to do is flatten to the floor and you can't get a score. Lastly, things aren't named based on how they look, but what the name means. That being said, I don't know if is a great Gaeshi anyone. We can think of more creative way to counter that that which you basically said, very similar to some other counter moves.
