So there I was in the early 1990s, putting in some temporary residency time near Reno, Nevada, and Sha Na Na was coming in for a series of shows at the Nugget in next-door Sparks. I was extremely poor at the time, so seeing a show would be tough, but it was free to go down in the basement and watch hockey games in the sports book lounge and I did that every once in a while. So that's where I was one night, and there were a bunch of tables set up in the downstairs lobby -- for Sha Na Na guys to do some meetin' and greetin' after their show. Really??!! How could I pass this opportunity up? Well, as I noted, I was only in temporary residence, so my little collection of Sha Na Na albums was stored far off in another state. I went back to my place that night and looked through the miscellany of an audio collection that I DID have with me, and you know what I found? I found an audio tape of the very episode that this number was in. How in the world ... ??? I didn't even have a pair of winter boots with me, but I had that tape. And the next night Chico Ryan, Donny York, Jocko Marcellino, Lennie Baker, and Screamin' Scott Simon all John-Hancocked the paper insert in the cassette case. When Screamin' looked at it, he read out loud from my penciled-in list of songs on the insert: "I Enjoy Being A Girl -- I remember that bit!!" Man, who could forget "that bit"? Or that solid gold line of his: "You always were a leader, trenchmouth."
