Shabani is very serious about his physical examination. I think everyone enjoys the interaction with their caregivers. Loved this video 😁

It's so beautiful to watch how humans and these majestic apes can work together. I'm not a fan of these apes being kept in a zoo but there are some humans that have dedicated their time and hearts to caring for these beautiful creatures. They seem quite happy for what they have in here. The big male was so cooperative for his examination and impressive to see him calm.

Great video. They were very well behaved, apart from one of the kids (I think it was Kiyo) hitting dad on the head while he was being examined! I love seeing gorillas interact with humans, and the gorillas seem to enjoy it too.

I thought while doing exams they were given treats to encourage them to make them want to because of rewards. Hmmm, Especially the Silverbacks. Maybe just in other Zoos. Shabani gliding across the floor at .057, had me hysterical!!! It seemed he loved exam. So funny. Thanks so much for sharing this! Never saw this Troop do exams before. ;-)

@Jayne Eyre , Thank you for information and kind reply. Love to learn about these amazing souls. Yes, i had heard fruit is high in calories and bad for teeth, but is a motivation to get them excited and participate in exams. Oh, I saw on a episode of "The Zoo" TV series about Animals in Bronx Zoo, NY. Ernie the Silverback needed a Vet because he had a cracked Canine tooth. As you said, they are very smart and remember Vets and will hit cage, be aggressive if they see them knowing whats coming. In the Bronx they had old Vet do exam and Ernie was giving Vet a death stare and punching the cage! He was mad as hell! ( amazing how they remember a face! ) So, while he was under having dentist work on tooth, they scanned his heart and they sadly found Heart issues.After he woke, they had a new Vet meet him because with his heart issues, she would have to come often to scan his heart. He was leary at 1st, but she gave him string beans and he started warming up to her. But, the old Vet cant come back because he upsets the Gorillas too much and hard to calm them or exam. How intelligent to remember a face, in a mask they don't see often and know they are the bad guy! LOL! Thanks again for information and kind comment! Take care! ;-)

@Jayne Eyre , Very true! I have watched many videos of mountain Gorillas and what and how much they eat and like you wrote, Greens, bark, etc but not the Bananas and fruits like everyone thinks. Thanks for mentioning that so maybe more will understand their true diets. I did see the late Aspinall with Gorillas and just 2 weeks ago saw him on video, old and a bit disabled talking about giving the Silverback a treat each time he went in to interact with him and the one day he forgot chocolate and the silverback was mad at him and bit his shoulder (not that bad ) but it was a warning to never forget his treat. But, I agree with you how wrong that was giving him Chocolate. You have to closely watch their diet and health. Silverbacks have history of death from Heart Disease. I guess in time many have done much better in giving appropriate treat's as they learned more about their health. Thanks again! ;-)

@Jayne Eyre , Yes, I was speaking of Mountain Gorillas in the wild and how & what they eat. Not Lowland Gorillas we see in Zoo's. ** There is a Wild born Gorilla at Antwerp, Belgium, her name is Amahoro and she is Gorgeous. Click link ---> www.gorillasland.com/amahoro.php Actually, there are many trips people take to view Gorilla Mountain Gorillas Troops in the Rwanda and Uganda.. They have become accustomed to people and there are rules and limits of one hour to view them. But they are known and catorized into groups with Family names and the Trackers who run this can usually find them and know all about each Troop. So, through the years through being studied in the wild, much has been learned about them and there are army's that try and protect them from threats, especially poachers and snares they leave to trap Gorillas. Oh, you know that, my screen was locked up and didn't see that part. But, Gorillas I have always read were Gentle and avoided any violence except when they or family is in danger and often will "Fake Charge" just to make the treat leave. Lowland have a peaceful soul too. I think their strength makes them a threat because someone told me she knew a keeper who use to go into enclosure many years ago before they changed safety rules. And a Gorilla was so excited to see her Keeper that she ran over to show affection, but didn't realize how much stronger she was then keeper and i think the keeper was banged up a bit from the Gorilla showing affection and play. So, they are a danger without even meaning to be. Thats why Silverbacks have to tone down their strength a great deal with babies. But, like us, they all have different personalities and some are kinder, gentler or aggressive then others. I even read that Shabani use to be called Titan of Terror (something like that ) because he was so aggressive with other staff and Gorillas, but now he is a sweetheart and wonderful daddy. So, as many mature, they also seem to calm down. ;-)

@Jayne Eyre , That is horrible what he did. But his son did raise and release many in the wild and went back to check on them. ( many videos )I think they were brought to him being rescued by poachers and he raised them then tries to release them because he feels they belong in wild. The Poachers need to be educated and stopped. They don't see the beautiful personalities of Gorillas and they were taught to poach for $. I saw a video where a few that ran Gorilla orphanage went to show trackers videos of babies and grown gorillas playing, showing affection, etc. By showing how gentle and similar they behave to us, they hoped to touch their compassion and empathy to see them as more then $ but sweet souls with families who deserve the right to live without fear or harm as we do. Some said they would stop because they had no idea how loving and playful they were and felt bad. But, some needed time to think as they were raised to poach them. So sad. I wish they could bring more jobs there to help families earn a living so they would have no need to hunt and kill Gorillas. They are very poor and one said, "to feed your family, you would do it too" Well, that just shows their mind set. But they need other sources of income because to harm, kill and separate any living soul, Animal or Human from their mom and family is evil and not sure how dark a heart has to be to do such a heartless thing to any living being. Kills me.
@maryeddy48715 жыл бұрын
@Jayne Eyre, Yes, you are right. I had seen that Gorillas are used as high price for their bush meat and body parts that are used and sold as souvenirs. Makes me sick that they would ambush a family and slaughter the family ( infront of the Babies ) then throw them in a sack and try and cross them at border to sell the babies as pets! That is where those wonderful sanctuaries come in and safe the babies and nurse them back to health. I had seen many of those situations on video and an interesting fact: If the babies don't have the will to live ( even though their injuries are not life threatening and they are physically well) if they are so traumatized seeing their family slaughtered and don't find the will to live and a reason for living, they will die just from the trauma that lead them there! HOW DAMN HEART BREAKING!!! Even Gorilla Michael who was with Penny and Gorilla Koko signed to Penny how he remembered seeing his family slaughtered as a baby. They are so intelligent as like humans, they remember trauma as we would. I just hope they can stop those bastards and maybe if they had severe crime and jail time to face, they would re-think poaching. ( I don't know what happens to poachers caught) but they are heartless and evil souls that even Chimps, they will slaughter parents right in front of babies!!! Poor sweet helpless souls. I would love to cuddle and save them all. I think i would be so heartbroken working with them. T o see the dark evil man does for GREED! There is a special place in hell for them. Thanks for the information because I love to be educated about these beautiful souls by kind people willing to pass on information. Thank you so much for the time and kind comments. ;-)
