I love the Shabani family and it doesn't matter what year these video's took place, but I love the older ones. I'm so happy they have a new enclosure and gorilla house. They are so happy with it, and I can see why. However, back when there were in this one Annie and Kiyo were younger and were so cute loving on one another and playing together. Shabani was so full of shenanigans and was always trying to get them all going. Either way, there is never a dull moment with this family. 🤣💖🤣💖

When Kiyomasa is climbing up and down the slope he looks like he is starting to develop the wider shoulder and v-shaped back of his dad. He also has learned the role of intermediary of a silverback. So proud of that little boy.

Shabani is the first silverback I watch & I fell in love with gorilla's years ago. Knowing that Shabs & Haoko came from my neck of the woods, I was invested to find out all I could & I did. Now it's D'jeeco troop, see you around.🇳🇿

The other gorillas don't recognize little Annie as part of the family. But Shabani (her father) knows exactly who Annie is. 1st her mother (Ai) neglected her so she had to be hand reared. Nene doesn't acknowledge Annie as her grandchild obviously, as she periodically makes that huffing barking sound and charges at Annie. Nene thinks she has to protect her son Kiyomasa. When Annie & Kiyomasa fight over food or blankets Nene attacks Annie. That's why Shabani is so aggressive. Hes not bullying, BUT he's not having it (Annie being jumped on). A father merely protecting his daughter. Otherwise Shabani is as playful as ever.

Shabani must act as leader and silverback in this way. Nene has a strong character and does not make it easy for Shabani to be accepted as a leader. I think it is also because of the many years without Silverback Nene and Oki have spent. Shabani did not have it easy as a young new Silverback. And he knows if he gets careless then Nene will make trouble and attack Annie more often. In the video you only see a few minutes of the day that has 24 hours. Certainly something had happened before that we do not know and Shabani has to take care of the order. This shows the behavior of Kiyomasa also, because he constantly changes between Annie and his mother. Nene is the highest ranking female and would take advantage of the position if Shabani does not provide peace. Shabani is a very good Silverback !!!

I also think that Nene was influenced by almost 4 or 5 years of time (with Oki) without Silverback and Shabani realizes that she often doubts him. I would love to experience the Shabani family for a whole day or more, a fascinating family❣

WOW! Nene wanted to get at Annie bad. Even after Shabani was between them Nene was barking and following Annie. Wish we knew what happened, whatever it was, Nene was very angry and wanted to no doubt give her a few slaps. Shabani is such a great daddy. He sticks close to his little girl and makes sure Nene doesn't hurt her until things calm down. Nene's stares and slow following Annie showed how mad she was. Usually Nene will back off after Shabani steps in, but this day she seemed determined to settle the score. Glad Shabaniis such a great leader and daddy keeping the peace. Annie would be in hell without Shabani to protect her. Thanks for another great video!!!

0z, Ltd., Annie never had a mother to care for her. Shabani will often try and give her the attention and affection she never got by having a mom care for her. He will groom her and try and play with her. Shabani, as hard as he can act at times, loves affection from anyone in the troop and playing. He has a real gentle side and has taken a special interest in his daughter to protect, groom and show her affection because Gorillas are very smart. I think ( just my opinion ) that he does try and give her the attention that mothers usually do because look how doting Nene is to Kiyomasa. Annie doesn't have that with her own mother, Al. I don't think Al sees Annie as her daughter since Al rejected her at Birth and she had to be Hand reared by keepers at zoo staff, then slowly integrated her back to the troop where Nene attacked her many times as a baby and Annie was terrified of her. Shabani protected Annie and tries to be both mom and dad to her. I know there will come a time where Annie will have to leave to avoid sex advances from dad. But, I think you are confusing his affections with sex. As I said, just my opinion and also, the staff and keepers know what is happening and watch them closely. If dad was being inaaprioate, they would do something. Also, in other troops I have seen Silverbacks mount their young boys. This was said to be the Silverback showing dominance over them. And it is not sexual as we humans think, it is to stress their hierarchy over them.

I have watched another video where Anne’s mom tried to attack her for no reason, Shabbani immediately corrected his wife running her away from Annie. Annie’s brother is also very protective of her, so it’s no surprise he was standing so close to the action.

Nene doesn't acknowledge Annie as her grandchild. When Annie plays with Kiyomasa sometimes they fight over blanket or food & Nene thinks she has to protect her son and jumps on Annie. But Shabani knows exactly who Annie is and he's not having it (Annie being jumped on) and he protects her always and is why Nene gets a butt whipping from Shabani. I worry about this because Nene is really old to be roughed up, but she's still very feisty.

Thanks for the video! Obviously the years of Nene rejecting Annie has effected her. She seems to know just the right buttons to push Nene into acting out. Because I'm sure Annie did something to upset Nene in the vid. I just hope no one gets out of control and hurt.
