Thanks for the detailed video. One question: to avoid fiddling with moving the points aside to sew through all nine or less rounds, why not do it a round at a time?
@ShabbyFabrics10 күн бұрын
Absolutely, you can always stitch each row as you go! There will be more starting and stopping and you will need to let the glue dry with each round of prairie points but definitely a great option! Thank you so much for watching and posting a helpful suggestion that others might prefer as well! :) Jen

Enjoyed watching you stitch this beautiful Folded Star table topper. Now I'm wondering, how hard would it be to make this with the use of just my right hand? Left one is mostly paralyzed after a stroke.
@ShabbyFabrics10 күн бұрын
Awww..... I love your determination! You are a woman after my own heart! I really think you can do this with mostly one hand. The project is larger so I find myself using my left hand to help support the weight of the project but as far as guiding the project, I feel confident you can dot it! Thank you for watching. God Bless you! XO Jen

Would the center flange of the 10D foot be sufficient to spread the folds of the prairie points for stitching those down? I love that foot. It makes me look like I am better at sewing than I am. ;) I see three similar folded star table toppers - this one, the kaleidoscope, & a plain center with a feature fabric. Do all three use the same interfacing template? I love your wedding ring, Jen. Beautiful, classic, elegant.
@ShabbyFabrics8 күн бұрын
Try it and see if that works. The main thing is to stay in the center of the Prairie Points when stitching them down. For the interfacing templates, they are all different. Jen's ring is very beautiful! We appreciate your support and comment! - Abby

I made this in a rainbow from red in the centre to indigo as the last prairie points and then a black binding and a black check for the backing. I made a template out of card stock for the prairie points folding process and it is ready for the next on. My mum wants one in Christmas fabrics.

I bought this pattern when visiting Road to California Quilt show when on holiday from the UK a number of years ago. It was the same year that Shabby Fabrics was there. This pattern looks so complicated but is incredibly easy to make. My favourite type of pattern. If you have not made one please try; you will be truly pleased you did.🙂🙂🙂🙂

Hi there! Such a beautiful idea and because I'm a beginner, I wonder if you could explain what sizing is and how to dry the fabric? Do I put the sizing on the front of the material or the back? My guess sizing is not the same as starch? Is sizing in a spray can? Can you tell me how to prepare the fabric? I haven't used either product so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance and wonderful video!
@ShabbyFabrics4 күн бұрын
Hi user-qi7ki5wk9n - Fabric sizing spray is a bit different from starch. We typically use the Faultless brand "Magic Sizing" for our projects. It adds body and a light stiffness to the fabrics. We spray it onto our fabrics before we cut them (you can spray on the backside if you prefer) and the fabric will dry as you iron it. Hope this helps :) -Michelle

I'm wondering the difference between starching and sizing? I don't prewash but I do starch my fabrics. With starching I know my fabric shrinks in one direction. Does fabric shrink with sizing? I prefer to starch but then I'm afraid I will have problems with creating my prairie points as shown in the video. Any advice?
@ShabbyFabrics10 күн бұрын
Hi Dianna - We do use sizing & steam on the fabric, which may shrink it a bit, but not noticeably. Sizing is lighter than starch, so the fabric will be less stiff. Hope this helps :) -Michelle

I am wondering where my prairie point tool is. I think half of the stitching on this project is not necessary. Instead of trying to go down the center, going 1/8-inch from both sides would work and all of the zig zag stitches in the end could be avoided. Just a thought.

Hi Alanam - We do not initially sew down the prairie points as it will create unnecessary bulk. Around timestamp 36:00 in this tutorial, Jen does start to stitch down the layers on this project. Hope this helps :) -Michelle
