Tennessee boy here, and Shaboozey is fire. I don't see him as a poser. He's embracing both his African culture and hip hop roots while also embracing the fact that he grew up in the sticks of Viriginia. It's dope to see more artists bending and meshing genres in ways that actually work. Dude is hella talented and gonna go far.

He didn’t grow up in the sticks, not whatsoever. He’s from northern Virginia. But why should that matter so much? He’s from a part of the country that does appreciate country so maybe that would influenced him but he’s just doing his thing
@also32546 ай бұрын
@@snoppys Perfectly said. Matters not at all. This is part of who he is. Clearly they don't know who he is and didn't do any research on him prior to this reaction. Why are people surprised that people that look like him are into country music? They don't know their history.

I wouldn't insult this song to compare it to Old Town Road. If you're familiar with Northern Virginia, this song makes sense. Yes, it's the south. Yes, it's the heart of the confederacy. However, it's still the DC area, and can have a very urban flavor. He also did a much better job merging the music while still respecting country roots and the country sound. I'm against the erasure of genres, but I'm also for having fun in a genre that isn't your own - so long as you respect the genre you're working in. Shaboozey did a good job of it.
