I love this kind of stuff. Where else on earth but Antarctica can an abandoned building over 100 years old not be looted and ransacked and totally reclaimed by nature? This is such a unique glance into the past and I'm glad there are people that have taken the time to conserve it.

Just amazing. Our granddaughter is in Antartica at this very moment running the gift shop at Port Lockroy. She mentioned the BBC were doing a documentary restoring Shackleton"s cabin recently.

After an Antarctica cruise just over a year ago, and having since read many books about Shackleton, Scott, Mawson etc it’s really good to see that such excellent conservation work has been done. I doubt I shall ever get to the huts and experience the sights and smells, but I am very pleased that they are being preserved as and where they were built.

Whoever slept in the two beds flanking the stove were the warmest at night. This whole thing is amazing and now I'm down a rabbit hole about antarctic expeditions

Shackleton's hut is at Cape Royds in Antarctica. It is on Ross Island near the US base of McMurdo Sound. I was there in 1984, 1985 and 1986 as a helicopter crewchief with the Navy.

Did they removed dead penguins and dead dogs carcasses? Hope they buried them if it’s not important for study. Great preservation

This may seem unlikely, but at some point it may become difficult maintaining this site. Would it be better to dismantle it and install it in a climate controlled section of a museum where more people, students and future explorers can study and enjoy it more?
