You´re right, it shows it isn´t about "having everything" but more likely about overcoming obstacles. As someone mentioned in comment above - I think that everybody should live in far more demanding conditions for a while to change his perspective on world around him and life values. Everything about this video touched me deeply and profoundly. Samuil - there should be a feature film on this man, his life, his story, his log cabin, his beloved dogs, his music, his diet, his recipes... i lived a life on a farm with no running water and no electricity for 9 years. I foraged the forest for firewood, grew our own food, played our drums and made our own music at full moon - it was hard but it was magical. But to do this in the far end of the Siberian tundra amongst wolves and bears deserves nothing but respect and i am in awe of this lone human. Long live Samuil! Please may we have an update on Samuil. The poet and romantic in me also wants to know his birthday, his life story, his hopes and dreams, details of the tragedy that brought him to this state of solitude and what keeps him going. What's his favourite meal, what's his favourite dessert? What treats does he buy himself from the village? Whats the name of his three dogs?

Amazing person. I came across the guy once while walking around Lake Baikal in 2013. Anatoliy was his name and I have spent a night in his house, similar to the one in the video. Anatoliy lives in the most remote part of the lakeshore, it took me around 2 months to reach that place. At that point, he lived there for 52 years already, rarely meeting with other people, unless a boat with tourists came around. Anatoliy has frostbites on all his fingers which are almost completely gone. The area contains one of the biggest populations of brown bears and every night they come around the house, not to damage or look for food. I think they just come to wind him up as he is a part of nature there. There were claw marks all over the house but no damage. At night there was a lot of growling around. Very simple person and very friendly. He told me the story about himself and how he ended up there. As a young man (20 YO) he was already an alcoholic and during the winter in Listvianka, he and his mate went drunk outside. His friend died that night frozen to death and Anatoliy was found almost frozen, lost all his fingers and almost his arm. He decided to leave the world of people and move to the wild, where he remains until today I hope. I was given very useful tips on how to predict the rain according to how ants behave, how to avoid bears, and what to forage. Also warned me of the poachers which I encountered later during my trip. I would love to go back there and learn more from him. Such a simple yet very wise person.

This as a russian bedtime-story. A long time ago, a Russian child lived in poverty with his family. His entire family died and he moved to the forest to live in isolation. He had to chop wood every day to keep warm. His only friends were dogs with whom he shared his food and warmth, sang songs and waited for summer. He patiently awaited the day when he would die and see his family again. The end. Kinda feels bitter sweet. Strange how it feels like we all have more stuff but so little from life.

These videos truly remind me of how simple life can be. I hope you can visit Samuil again in the Spring/Summer to keep him company on that long walk, if he's comfortable to do so. It would be great to stay updated on how he's going!

Josie I think it is going exactly the same, what's gonna change? Sometimes people undergo so much trauma that they will run from civilization because when they live with people, it reminds them what was and could have been. It's a boring & uninteresting life but it's better than unhappy life...

@@Rahul-ml2xb And sometimes the most that a community can do for people who live like this is to remind them that they are not alone and that we care. It clearly said that he chose this life and he may find it more satisfying than to be surrounded by people who only see the negative like your comment suggests. It is boring and uninteresting for you but that opinion does not make a difference to him so keep it to yourself.

What a remarkable, sad yet inspiring story. Bless this man, you can hear the love and yearn he has for his late mother..god bless you man!

I wonder where his loo is. A window that can be protected somehow is key. Even Dick Proennecke ultimately had to leave twin lakes when old age kicked in and his eyesight failed him. He is just one infection away from a nasty end. May God bless him and keep him safe..
