So beautiful .. a very unkind person told me a few days ago why do I waste my time on my projects they will eventually die off ..it really saddened me that it's not always about the aesthetics it's about the journey, the project , the closeness to the creator, the accomplishments the failures, the victories.. that's why I watch your channel you want to express YOU. .. it's our life and how we express it is ours alone .. and I so get that in you .. and THAT is why I love your channel, your accomplishments , your passion .. thank you again ..some folks just don't get it I guess ..🤔

I am an enormous fan of Impatients, especially for containers on my shaded porches. I do not crowd them in a container as I do other annuals. Maybe that is the secret! I was thrilled when my local garden center had the Impatients from PW. I never thought of using them in the landscaping. I wish you the best of luck with these this season! 🌱❤

Can you explain how you would winter over the fern and the ivy? I have similar containers and am wondering what I will do when my zone 6 winter hits! ❄️ 🥶

I think that color combination is FANTASTIC. The red tones work, in part, because the fern is so big and so much lighter.

I just bought a hosta from a local woman and an ostrich fern had roots inside of the hosta's rootball, so I ended up scoring big time! I planted mine in the landscape (zone 7b). This is my first year with a larger shaded garden, and your channel is a super inspiration. Thank you!

🦋The fern is spectacular. The warm floral compliment and ivy is perfect. A violet flower accent with the ivy and fern would be pretty too. Whether it’s cool or warm, you created container perfection that can go from now to next season and even beyond. It’s all about the fern🌿. Smart planting! 🦋

Hi Laura, This shade plant pairing is one of my favorites, but quite possibly I think that about most, if not all, of your arrangements😊. I particularly like how gracefully and gently the fern and ivy move in the breeze. This is the year you’re going to have success growing impatiens! 🏆After you gave us the tour of your parents’ garden center, I checked to see if our local nurseries have this fern, since we’re a zone 4. They only had the type that were next to these (in the garden center video) and they didn’t have the same appeal as this vibrant variety. This is a stunner! Well done!

fern lover here...you love to garden without gloves. me too! i know you mostly dig in fluffy yummy espoma potting mix or your gorgeous oregon soil but if you try this tip you can save a whole bunch of time cleaning underneath your nails at day's end. Tip: carry a bar of soap in your garden tool arsenal and give is a good deep fingernail scratch to pack the soap flakes under the tips of your nails then soil has nowhere to cling to

Beautiful and classic! I don't think I'll ever plant an ostrich fern in the landscape in my area. They are so invasive and I don't need to add "digging out ferns" to my chore list every year. I do love a beautiful fern glen in a woodland area, though!
@vikkib69834 жыл бұрын
So these shade containers are beautiful. To say that Ostrich Fern can be invasive is an understatement. I love them but in my zone 8 garden they were such a bully so, and here's a joke, give them plenty of room! You, Aaron and Benjamin are a bright spot in my quarantine day. I'm looking forward to seeing the containers in their new home.

Hi Laura, This fern is a gorgeous one........but watch out it spreads by runners fast! Everywhere! But the good thing is they pull up super easy. I have many in my landscape. I live in Vancouver,BC (zone8)I have also passed several on to novice gardener family members and they are thriving. They can take afternoon sun, but lose the vibrant lime green, and become a little washed out. But one of the most beautiful aspects of this particular fern are the fiddleheads in the spring.. they are very upright, vase shaped and regal. I cut off some of the lower branches to keep the vase shape. Otherwise they are huge. A stunner!,

In an old Monty Donn video, when planting monster palms in planters in someone’s garden, knowing they could only be placed once due to weight, he put a matching size empty pot in, packed in the soil around it, removed empty pot, then put in the palms. He had the exact size and placement for the centerpiece. Always loved that tip. Love those monster Ostrich Ferns in our zone 5 containers. Have some young ones I’m growing to completely fill in some big shade planters here. Will be glorious! Also growing out young Godzilla Fern, which are monster tall, but colored like a Painted Fern.

I love this shade container, so so pretty! I have lived in the Northeast, Southeast and high desert (Boise area). I have grown the most fabulous impatiens in both Eastern homes and they were fabulous. Boise? not so much. The prolonged heat there and in Eastern OR is just not what they love so they really can struggle there. This container will like your porch but still not sure it will love the heat! Good luck!
