Back in 1979 I saw a Kawasaki H2 2 stroke stuffed in a 250 mx frame at Sand Mountain Nevada. It had a shaved bald front tire like before recapping, the engine, handle bars, a seat and a sand paddle tire, and some sort of brakes, the guy that had it was a mad man. The bike threw a rooster tail that was easily two telephone poles tall, and was by far the fastest thing on the sand that weekend, be it bike sand rail or 4x4. The only thing faster that weekend was the occasional F-16 from the nearby Naval Air Station in Fallon that flew over. The Kawasaki H2 is a fantastic piece or engineering.

I love it. I bought a ‘72 H2 in 1981, had the engine rebuilt and bored .20 over, Weisco pistons, port and polish, chamber pipes, rejetted carbs.. I loved that bike. What a great hot rod! Great job on the chopper, it’s beautiful!

This clip has had me giggling like a skoolgirl on nitrous, pretty amazing since I'm on month 11 of 'recovery' after the worlds most ridiculous bike accident of June '19. I discovered yesterday, after picking my Buell/Sportster up from the garage (don't even ask) that I can't even lift my left leg onto the peg! This is not even due to the accident, just hip deterioration after a bad climbing accident when I was 19. I'm waiting for a nice bionic joint.... I love that bike, so much wilder than the original! I'm so glad to see there are people still producing such fabulous things...I built my first chop in about 1971. Kudos!

Some serious nostalgia here for me. When I was young, most of my ride buddies rode choppers and some swapped their batteries for capacitors. Given our penchant for night riding and occasional breakdown, I kept the battery and swapped out the rectifier/diode crap for an aftermarket solid state unit. During the same timeframe, another friend of mine had a race modded Kawi 2 cycle triple, and he let me ride it down the street once. Had a hard time finding a zone between stalling and wheelstanding. Once was enough, thank you. All that being said, I think I'd probably prefer riding this one to the pink bike from last time.

In 1972 I bought the H1R, it was a special order and came partly disassembled, didn't have any lights or signals just a bubble front screen and a 42" wheelie bar! Fastest bike I'd ever ridden at the time, 500cc 2stroke triple...you best be holding on when it comes on the pipe!

Building a custom expansion chamber is very impressive. The pressure pulses in the pipe have to resonate just right. Love the reverse hand levers. Your longest finger should have the most leverage. No clutch and throttle cables visible. The same number of moving parts in the head as a flat head Ford. A long and low frame was a good choice. Two strokes are notoriously peaky and want to lift the front wheel in the air when they suddenly hit the power band. Now all you have to worry about is doing a burnout. So many wonderful details. Excellent!

Dunno if Eric still has it, but it suddenly occurred to me that some insulating foil in the front of his helmet would probably eliminate the popping from that magneto. I so desperately wanted a 2-stroke chopper before I bought my first motorcycle because it's so totally different from anything you'll ever see on the road. I love that it pisses off the posers, while those who truly love petrol machines want to endlessly make babies with it. I had a Titan 2-stroke for a short time and I cried like a child when I had to sell it.

The middle carb should be set to run richer than the outside two, it got hotter than the other two causing it to seize.

I had a '69 H1 back in 1970. A little racing trick was to drain the tranny oil out and replace it with Type F ATF. It was lighter than the oil and it would also make the clutch grab a little better. However, the crank end seal on the output end of the crank didn't like the ATF and would leak after a while. With ported cylinders, the piston skirt would get a little squirt of ATF at bottom dead center(or there about) under hard throttle. I was racing a guy and had just hit 4th gear when suddenly.........silence....... It was spooky! 85mph...going from the wail of a 550cc triple breathing through a set of Bassani expansion chambers....to silence. Looked down, tach read 0 rpm, speedo was falling from 85mph. I pulled the clutch, the rear end wiggled a bit .then I coasted off to the side of the road. When I pulled it apart, only that cylinder had seized. I honed the bore, used fine emery paper on the piston and reinstalled it. It ran great....especially after I switched back to 30wt oil in the trans.......and replaced the flat spotted rear tire!

Up until the first bend in the road, yes. The H2's weren't known for cornering, they had a lot of flex in the forks, brake fade was a problem.... and then there was the "light switch" powerband. Quite a few H2 owners put a red tick mark on their tach, to tell them "this is where you don't want to be leaned over."

But people liked to buy pipes and porting for them, and that engine responds very badly to a "more bigger" port job. Those are the ones that hurt people. But there were a lot of idiots who bought one as a first bike in the 70s. Same guys that die on GSXRs today

There is always a bit of confusion because the villains names were rarely mentioned in any of the mad max movies . Also the H2 would out accelerate everything but didn’t have the top end of the 4 stroke 4 cylinder bikes , also had terrible handling in turns, tried a friends once in 86 and convinced me Not to buy it and get an 78’ CB400T2 instead , handled great in turns but nowhere as fast

If anything he's improved the handling and safety of the H2 by eliminating the terrible OEM frame. Not the first 2 stroke chopper I've seen, though usually the high torque output Jawa 350 twin seems to be popular for a powerplant.

They weren't that bad, just put together a bit fast and loose. With a little attention made to getting everything in the right tolerance, a lot of stock-frame H2s did serious road racing in the 70s. Even today if you assemble it well, you can show up at a vintage race and lay waste. Klemm Vintage did it at Willow Springs with a 500 H1 a few years ago, and nuked the class from orbit with stock pipes and carbs.

My '74 Honda CB750 (the first super bike that beat American bikes) was heavily modified. It had a 16" HD rear wheel and dog bones to lower the rear end. Step seat. Pull back bars. Blacked out side plastics. It was kept running with Kawasaki, HD, and John Deere parts. It wasn't this extreme of a chopper, but it looked cool and I could ride it everywhere every day.

the style is called a "digger". popularized by Arlen Ness in the 70s, they were choppers based off the drag bike aesthetic using typically Sportster engines or CB750-4's, long and low frames, prizm style tanks, and long rakes with relatively short front ends. rarely are these bikes on the road, let alone a track. mostly for show, but this one obviously has the go as well.

that is absolutely amazing. it'd be real easy to just throw some disc brakes in there, or no front at all. but that is just so damn clean and it fits perfectly. one hell of a bike. way beyond ridiculous, and even more well built. the braks, controls, mag, everything. it's easy to make something look cool or function, but both... and to look SOOO cool, serious talent right there.

I love those pipes. Very consistent to the look. I like them because they’re not curved directly from the engine and they look so good rigged like that. Damn nice.

I'm actually happy I watch this video I was kind of upset when I first saw it was a chopper but then I saw how he rides it and takes care of it and just got to be happy that people still want to do things with two-stroke Motors
