This has to be the most primitive way of trash disposal I've seen. Very entertaining.

Neat video! This truck makes rainbow’s MSLs look start of the art. And makes modern day carry can manual collection look like a breeze. It’s amazing how far things have come.

Oh yeah, you aren't kidding there. When I was watching these guys work I really couldn't believe what I was seeing. It amazed me that there was ever a time where men had to climb that high to toss trash into a truck. I do realize that there are points in time that made even this truck look state of the art. Horse drawn carriage trailer days for example.

Great video! I am glad to see more video of this truck from your trip. I appreciate you taking the time to film these classic trucks!

Cool to see a garbage truck from the 1960's still used on a regular basis. This truck may need a little tlc, but it will outlast most of the newer current trucks. Like they say, they don't make them like they used to!
@shadofax967 жыл бұрын
No kidding. You can still use sticks, rocks, and a hammer to fix this thing. No computers or college degrees needed. ;-)

It's funny when people talk about saving the environment, but people don't realize that we are not saving the environment by buying things that last 5 years, or have a short life span. If things were built to last a lifetime, there would be less pollution.
@shadofax967 жыл бұрын
Hey you better watch it there with all that logical stuff, people nowadays get offended with that type of thinking. ;-)

It's not only vintage garbage trucks I like, but vintage appliances/electronics as well, especially vintage Maytag washers and dryers.

I think vintage anything is special these days. I found a 50's era 3 wheeled open cab street sweeper that totally blew my mind.

Ah fond memories. I live in the UK, and in those days they had 3 or 4 men to a cart, all gone now. All we have now is 'plastic' trucks and fussy bin-men who won't even empty your bin if it's overfull.
@shadofax969 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Lovelock Back in the day, trash men had to work HARD. These guys have a no-joke hard day at work. :-O I've seen some videos of the trucks in the UK and you are right "plastic" trucks is a great way to describe them.

I feel that each and every one of us wished that we had footage of the trucks we watched as kids. They just get to be fond memories that we cherish forever.

I really was a fascinating thing to watch. I could barely believe what I was looking at when we saw these things on route. The people operating these trucks have been doing so for over 30 years. I agree, it's a rather sad thing to watch such old men doing such tough work, but then again, perhaps it's these trucks that keep these men going and functional as men.
@calvincrews38854 жыл бұрын
You're never gonna have great quality from the newer model garbage trucks these oldies can work forever we come from a long way from Mini garbage trucks and gas powered to Big models from Gasoline engine to Diesel engine CNG and now hybrid and even fully electric garbage trucks are coming down the Pikes now and days

Was this an old school bus converted into a garbage truck??
@shadofax969 жыл бұрын
+wesbann Nope, this is how the did it in the 60's. Just some old skool working almost every day, being cobbled together to get back out to work. The entier radiator was replaced the day before this video was taken.

It almost would of seemed faster to take each piece out of the dumpster and into the truck then play with the lift

There is certainly some truth in that. I couldn't believe how difficult it was to dump that bin.

this is similar to Russian service. even leaking hydraulics on refuse trucks new Russian. the truck belongs to a private company?
@shadofax968 жыл бұрын
+Сергей Попов This truck, two others like the other one you commented on, and two front loaders is all this company has and yes it is a small family business. So brand new trucks in Russia come with leaky hydraulics?
@domzapchasti8 жыл бұрын
I have a garbage trucks is not very new - age 4-5 years. Hydraulics on them is not very flowing. Because my garbage trucks were used components from Italy. When did the garbage from their Russian components-hydraulics quality was poor.
