Having been around during the time these were being created, looking at the internet now… not much has changed. Drop the 4chan stuff, and you basically have a full ruleset of modern internet. Even rule 1 about /b/. Dont talk about random, which generally applies to the net i suppose. The gender ones, though misogynistic as is, still holds true, alot of people still will always call people Guy or Dude. Its standard language at this point. And he is always the pronoun applied to anons online. You yourself are still an anon to me so i dont know if you’re anything, but ill still call ya dude or guy. Just kinda how it is. There is a little confusion in the Pool’s closed meme. 4chan didn’t start raiding habbo because it was racist, they started raiding the game because getting banned with the black Afro avatar could be an excuse to calling Habbo racist. By the sources it just seems like b doing random provocations for the sake of random provocations. According to “teh meme wiki” after the afros B would also raid spamming skinheads, gingers, and communists (avatars with white beards and red shirts). The Stingrays meme variation came after Steve Irwin (aka ‘the crocodile hunter’) died from a stingray sting, and the irl block cosplay with the swastika came after Habbo executives were accused of pedophilia. I don’t know how many of the raiders were really nazis, I don’t know how many of them were ironically provoking by forming swastikas while wearing suits and Afro wigs. Either way, personally I’m kinda glad trolling is less popular irl at time of writing and that society in general is less patient with swastikas
@ericquiabazza26082 жыл бұрын
Dude, zuasticas have become demonize for propaganda porpuse not any real value. Not only that, the cruz of rose is a bhudist simbol originally. Meanwhile you have dictators and cohntries doing whatever they want, kill MILLIONS and face NO CONCEUENCES. there is "Everyone hate america" joke, heck, search "Geografy of who hates who" evenadd its in the skit.

i actually lost it at the photo of people in real suites with afros forming swastika, as in... people did it as one of just a few ways to do provocative things in avatar-chat type of games, but then that just surrealistically jumped into real life, didn't think I'd ever see something like that
@ADHDisYippeeeeeeeeee2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, loveweb or at least the character Manon seems to really see 4chan in a rose-tinted lens rather than be honest about the more displeasing reality. Especially when Manon goes in about how "4chan and anonymous had no gender" which misunderstands that the entire idea was that the communities focusing on gender wasn't really a necessity and everyone was seen as "equal" in terms of gender was because it was expected that all users were male by default and thus the website and community always had a strictly male outlook and that focusing on gender as anything other than male would be basically pointless and cause needless division for what was seen as an insignificant minority at that time. I am not going to say that 4chan in its history was always the far-right cesspool that it is now. As historically it could be argued that it was a far more progressive and diverse place, especially in a time, (inheriting much of its culture of revolting from traditional formal society from its older father site 2chan), where being seen as a geek, otaku or any other person that didn't conform to societies expectations was very much frowned on in society and risked mass ostracization. 4chan was that place for those types of people, where disenfranchised young men went to truly break free of that societal baggage to joke and poke fun of themselves and others and break the rules of what was expected of that society they rejected. It wasn't an egalitarian paradise, sure. But it still had a strong inclination towards youth engaging in rebellion against tradition conservative society. Which is entirely ironic considering how many boards on 4chan are now and completely ignore that old 4chan specifically was at least in some large part was a backlash against their values, and memed them for everything they were, trolling or mockingly satirically identifying themselves as said rabbid far-right extremists because of how they saw them as embarrassingly overly-edgy losers who they could use for getting further attention and shock-value at the expense of both the extremists they parody, and outsiders who didn't get the joke which could've been milked for even more lulz.
@ADHDisYippeeeeeeeeee2 жыл бұрын
For those who don't get my point, it is that 4chan at its heart truly wasn't about the extremist discriminatory, conservative ideology that it is known for nowadays and often even served as a backlash to those views. Though at the same time we shouldn't sugar-coat what those communities as being this all-inclusive utopia either, and remember that they were just as often simple agents of chaos who had no true allegiances and were more often than not wild-cards, trying to cause as much lulz as possible, never serving as anyone's personal army. Ignoring that side is a true disservice to early internet history and confronting our past, warts and all, and which only further makes those moments in 4chan's history of their community showing their truly genuine and noble side, stand out even more.
@retrograde98xp72 жыл бұрын

I still remember the day my weeaboo status badge was physically ripped off by a gundam coming down from the sky the moment I set foot into Japan. It immediately put an otaku badge on me and then flew back into the sky. What an epic moment.

Rule #3 of the updated rules is the truest thing that has ever been written, especially in terms of video games as that's APPARENLY the only way to truly preserve them.

at this point i think shadok WANTS manon porn, there's no way you would even MENTION rule 35 without wanting it to be made and even go as far as to mention that there's literally no porn of it yet. you've cursed yourself shadok, but i believe you see it as a blessing. UPDATE: there already is.

Rule 30 is often sorely misunderstood. I forgot the most apt explanation I've ever seen unfortunately, but it was something along the lines of how, when in an anonymous space presenting your ideas, it doesn't matter who or what you are. What matters there in the discussion are your ideas and the things you post. There is nothing about being female that changes that, and how there was never an equivalent for men to begin with. The internet started out as a man thing, or nerdy/basement dweller thing and so on the early internet, the presumption was always that everyone was a man. Then the females came along and some would post, for no reason, that they're female, in situations where really that didn't matter or add to the conversation (just like how being a man was irrelevant). There is no difference between "I'm against X because of Y" and "I'm against X because of Y and I'm a (man/woman)" other than the prior being more succinct and relevant. At least, that's what I think the argument for rule 30 was. It was something in this line of thought anyway. I think it's a good rule. It wasn't so much a top-down rule as it was a bottom-up observation.
@FHBStudio2 жыл бұрын
Rule 31 is an extension of rule 30. If you are insisting on making you being female in any way relevant to the discussion, it's not (in 99.99+% of discussions). Therefore the request is reasonable as it separates the being female part from the rest of the discussion. It's a very crass formulation, but this is what I took it to mean/how I've seen it explained.
@Aze-Aze2 жыл бұрын
Yep, on anonymous forums all discussions are centered around the topic itself (or derailment of it) and thus sex, sexuality, age, name, ethnicity, and social class are irrelevant. Nobody wants to care about who you are or what history you have, they should only care about your arguments. Thus including the fact that you are a man or woman, that you're old or young (at least 18+), what your name is, etc is detriment to the post you make. In most cases it was women who did this to gain attention, or men pretending to be women thus the tits with timepost or gtfo got created to deal with the small cases of the poster being a woman and that identity being relevant to the descussion.
