True!! and the nice things he says to his son in this clip can't really be trusted a narcissistic parent loves to lure you in just to reject you again just to feed there narcissistic supply and mess the child up mentally and make them insecure like them plus they are in front of a camera..it's like an evil game to them .there envy and contempt for there own child and there own insecurity will always outweigh any (fake) acts of kindnesses you will see from them...

The man wore not only his wife’s wigs and blouses but also wore his wife’s robe and shoes around the house. My goodness! Then wears all this stuff but posing as Marvin Jr’s father while acting like his mom….all the while resenting his son for his success but taking in everything from the successes of his son’s work…then kills him SHEESH!

The key word is "choose." Children don't have a choice whether they want to be raised with both mother and father. When you men choose to be absent from your children's lives, you're making a conscious choice of abandoning them. They're nothing more than offspring to you all.

Can't find enough words to express the level of compassion, empathic, genius of a talent that encompassed Marvin Gaye Jr. He's that forever love of my life. Watching the clip you can sense the tension simply by the manner his father slights him for not making the football team. Though opposing his father's opinion, Marvin Jr. respectfully articulates his defense. You have to commend his mannerisms. He's clealry uncomfortable speaking on camera with his father dressed in a blouse like top and wearing a wig yet Marvin ever the class act holds himself beautifully. Much love and respect Marvin Jr. 🖤🖤🖤

It hurt my heart when a reporter asked Marvin Gaye' Sr. if he loved his son. His response was, "I will put it this way. I did not dislike him.". The sad part about this situation is that jealousy and hatred led his father to kill him.. Imagine your own mother or father being jealous of you.

Even on this video, his father was trying to belittle him and undermine him. They said this man constantly tried to tear Marvin down because he was jealous of him. Simply because Marvin was chosen and his Jack leg self wasn’t! The world/life treated Marvin really badly. We should thank God every day for Marvin and letting him stay on earth as long as he did.

His father was a cross dressing, abusive, cruel, conflicted fuck who regularly cheated on his wife and even had a son from another woman (Antwaun). And he was a reverend! He beat Marvin on a regular basis for any minuscule reason. And Imagine growing up watching your father wearing your mothers dresses! Yet despite all this, Marvin still loved both his parents. The way Marvin hugs him in this video is just a testament of the kindhearted, forgiving soul that he was. I mean of course that kind of nutty, abusive upbringing is going to have some serious negative impacts later in life. Couple that with two divorces, massive debt and being dead broke, sure Marvin was in pain and deeply depressed, sure he used drugs. The most heartbreaking part is he was at the most vulnerable part of his life when he moved back in with the only family, only place he had left. And this is the way his father helped him? By shooting his own blood? Isn't it crazy how Marvin saw this coming? He was paranoid for his life. He kept saying someone was going to kill him! And he died defending his mother. How did this SOB only get 5 years of probation!

I mean the old man was sick in the head. But Marvin jr was no angel himself. At the time of his death he was f'd up in the head and heavily addicted to drugs. He used to kick his dad's ass fairly regularly at that point.

surreal..You would almost think this is an In Living Color or Saturday Night Live skit. . When you read his autobiography "Divided Soul" (one of the best ever) & all the biographies about his life that followed, you learn that his Dad had proclivites that Marvin was ashamed of, he was jealous of Marvin & the relationship he shared with his own mother... Yet he still loved his dad & desired his approval.... One of the best talents in the world.

His father was messed up , but he was what he was, and Marvin Gaye couldn't go on with his own life and let it be, he died at his fathers hand because of un -forgiveness and revenge for his fathers abusive ways. Per documentaries his father was 'extremely" abusive toward him and his timid and submissive mother , who would not leave the nut bag, and Marvin felt an obligation to protect her as he got older and thus could not go on with his own life, turning to drugs as well. This is the sad realty for many adult children who come from an abusive home that the mother is still in and is not going to leave. Furthermore , it did not help that his father was a gay 'preacher" in a time of being gay was dangerous and illegal in many circumstances.

Last night, I finished watching a KZbin show about the final 24 hours of Gaye’s life. In it, I was shocked to find out that his dad was a transvestite at home, not in public. However, this now appeared on my homepage and his dad comes across as REALLY effeminate and the hair adds to that feel as well. His dad must have been clearly conflicted with his inner thoughts and lifestyle and that was probably how some of that turmoil and anger spilled over to his abusive ways towards his family. Tragic!

Yeah, I believe if he would've lived freely and a gay man he wouldn't have had those emotional issues he had thus taking it out on himself and his family.

Makes me sad to see this--i wish Marvin would had received professional counseling! Just finished deep book, Divided Soul which just breaks my heart. Sometimes I think we would not have received gifted voice of Marvin if ihe had received love from his father instead of wippings

Marvin was a genius and his music is one of the treasures of world culture. But he seems to have been a tortured soul, and that pain drove his art. He had a bad cocaine habit at the time of his death from what I've read, and tragically that probably lowered his inhibitions to the point that he exploded and beati his father. His father seems to have been a pitiful soul.

Marvin GAY Sr. and Marvin GAYE Jr. He changed the spelling of his last name to distance himself from his cross-dressing father. The man had serious issues from day 1, was very abusive. They tried to blame a brain tumor but that was a copout. That said, Marvin Jr. was clearly on a self-destructive path & knew the danger he was in with that maniac around. Passively suicidal I assume.
