A monumental moment in gaming history!
Brian streamed this video on the 9th February, 2018. At the time I was lying on a comfortable bed in a New York hotel watching this 'live' on my iPad. As Brian got closer and closer the Discord feed was going nuts! I was trying to post messages but was drowned out by the multitude of fans online in that moment.
None of us had any idea where the secret was, but after Brian had eliminated most of the obvious areas I had a suspicion where he could look next (based on an old blog post of mine ; )
Sadly, that amazing Discord channel with all those comments was quickly deleted and is now lost forever!

@@BrianMcInnis87 if you don't know, then you don't know. PS4 remake Shadow of the colossus, the end credits referenced Nomad and hinted at a quest, unlocking a secret. If you look at Nomads channel under Community there is a documentary about it. It's totally worth watching.

@@j0anbug If you count the number of steps you descend to get down to where the Sword Of Dormin is located, it's actually 79 steps. The first section of steps ( 1:47 to 2:05 ) is 70 & the 2nd section of steps ( 2:42 to 2:43 ) is an additional 9 steps. So the "79 steps to enlightenment" appears to have a double meaning. The 79 gold coins & literally the 79 steps.

I was there too. It was an "edge of your seat" moment when Brian (Wander) was waiting next to the last gold coin but didn't pick it up right away because more people were still joining the live stream. There was so many possibilities of what might happen once that last gold coin was collected. For a moment I think all of us watching forgot to breathe. :)

I was there!! I remember seeking out the coins all alone one day. A few days later I started streaming it and was surprised that thousands of other people quickly joined the search

When I was playing on ps2, I've noticed that the ''door'' has a strange texture, it really looks like it was meant to be something, so I've tried to point the light to the center every time a colossus was killed (I was hoping that it would activate on Phaedra or Avion since the direction of the light was almost at the center of the door). And still it wasn't something THAT popular on forums like black bird or the secret garden was. As a huge fan of this masterpiece I felt grateful when I saw that the door I was suspicious of, was used to hold the secret. Even if the sword isn't that much of a reward, I've had a lot of fun seeking each coin on the map, and it's really nice to see your dedication to contribute to the game by leaving coins at places that they were once discussed about being secret locations or not.

I think all of us that played the PS2/PS3 version believed that door would open somehow & lead us to a secret location. I used to think that maybe there was a path inside that would lead to the blue balcony that protrudes out from the castle just above the walkway to the Secret Garden. Since the balcony & the door seemed to have the same blue hue, I thought there was a connection. Perhaps because so many believed that door held a secret, that's why it was given a purpose in the PS4 remake.

I was in the KZbin live in this moment, with the realization that the number in the credits meant a hexcode for the map coordinates. That was sooo cool! I expected an extra colossi though, but it was such a brilliant place to hide a new secret

I wish I had a camera with a microphone on to record my live reaction when I finally found the secret "Sword of Dormin" all by myself after being offline in order to avoid spoilers: it happened around three weeks later by the time of this livestream if I recall correctly which reminds me of that day, a very special moment that I'll never forget as a gamer...

Sadly I didn't get to discover the secret on my own. I was watching Brian's live stream when this secret was revealed. However in total I did find 74 of the gold coins on my own. I already had a good idea where many of them would be, but the PS4 remake added new areas you couldn't reach originally which added to the thrill of the search. I think it took me about 200 hours to find the 74 that I found. Congratulations for finding them all! I have no doubt it's a gaming memory you'll never forget.

@@timmadone8930 For those interested I recorded the gameplay session when I finally found the exact location where the secret Sword of Dormin was hidden in the Forbidden Lands' map on my Twitch channel/vcr but due to my settings I was able to save only a 15 minutes long video clip on my PS4 capture gallery folder which doesn't include the exact moment when I saw the glowing wall for the first time so I exported this video clip edited using the SHAREfactory app around a year later then its original livestream on my KZbin channel as well in the Playlist dedicated to this Fumito Ueda game in order to preserve that special moment just in case my PS4 console is no longer working for any reason

@@ItalianJoe83 Oh cool. Sadly I didn't get to experience the glowing door on my own as I was watching Brian's live stream when it was discovered. But I've made other discoveries in S.O.T.C. & it's always a great feeling when I come across something I didn't know about or had never seen before or had never tried before. Even if it's not a major discovery, it's amazing that anything new can still be tried or found after 19 years.

I love these games which plonk you down into a world and even when the 'story' is done there's still so much to explore and find. Very souls-esque before the first true souls game even came out.

Though Ico and Shadow of the Colossus are cult classics and their fanbases may not be huge, these games _must_ have impacted or atleast inspired a lot of the very experimental games coming out at the turn of the 2010s. Souls series is definitely one of them.

I haven't played ps4 version, all this time I thought they put the sword in Celosia's area, the site of the original theory.

Celosia's area is still a bit of a mystery. While there doesn't appear to be anything behind that "bricked up door" as it's often referred to, there is something else I find of interest. If you fall through the map in that location & look up, you'll see a big black box in the location of the area just outside of the temple where you initially fight Celosia. There's an opening that's caved in & an invisible wall that won't let you go inside. Is that area still holding a secret that hasn't been discovered?

@@timmadone8930 unfortunately no, with the tools available now the game has been torn apart and every file and asset inspected. theres nothing left anymore. but its still fun to dream!

@@RPGCrash Perhaps nothing major, but that doesn't mean there aren't things still waiting to be discovered. For example I found the number 24 etched into a rock slab (see video). I doubt there is an asset for that (correct me if I'm wrong). I can't help but believe other hidden things are scattered around the map that aren't as obvious as the gold coins or the Trico barrel or the ICO watermelon or the goat anaglyphs. Dreams sometimes come true. :)

I know it was a little oasis in the desert that there was finally something more (at least in the remake) because people were looking for years. I remember watching the live video and thinking to myself it has to be colossus 17. Dormin's sword was a great gift but it would have been nice to be able to see, even without movement, a huge room with the discarded colossi and how they look. would see with the new graphics engine.

If we're really lucky, we might get a Definitive Edition of the game next year to celebrate the 20th anniversary. Should that happen, we will most certainly get some (or all) of the missing colossi put back in the game. Maybe we might even get a brand new colossus made just for the anniversary. SONY owns Bluepoint Games now so it's certainly not out of the question to think this might happen. There's also a possibility we might get a full remake of "ICO" too. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I was watching this live as it happened. Actually the last gold coin found in the live stream was one I had already found a day or two before. Hey Nomad do you know if that door was originally going to open in the PS2 version but then that idea was scrapped? I used to think once you found a way to open it & went inside, a stairway would lead to that blue balcony on the other side of the castle just above the walkway to the Secret Garden. At the time it just made sense...blue door, blue balcony. :)

Really? Well then you should have posted that so Brian didn't have to stay awake for so long! But no, the door was added by Bluepoint (based on one of my blog posts), there is no evidence of it in the PS2 version - in fact behind that door is nothing but void.

@@NomadColossus I hadn't watched his other live streams involving the search because I was trying to find as many as I could on my own. Because of that I didn't know what gold coin was the one he hadn't found yet. At the time of the live stream I had found 74, but I didn't know until it was too late that one of the 74 I had already found was the one Brian needed. Believe me when I say I wish I could have been the one to point out where the last gold coin was.
