One thing however, the color. It doesn't exactly match in the final image especially. It would be a big deal if I hadn't played the original on PS2. However it's not quite the same, it looks less overexposed, less yellow and blue.

at 2:15 on the remake side the devs knew to make agro pause for just a second at the steps so that the intro would line up perfectly with the original. I love that attention to detail. That small seemingly insignificant detail is what makes me confident in BluePoint to do this game justice.

I like the fact that they're respectful to the original atmosphere by keeping the flow of the opening the same, but at the same time they aren't afraid to change things and make them look new. I like the extra architectural details, I love the lush green scenery of the forest and how it contrasts with the "forbidden" feel of the bridge and desert. The changes to the layout of the land (more mountain peaks, etc), and the moon reflecting light down on everything in the beginning gives the world a more grandiose feeling, and that helps the contrast of locations even more when the area before the bridge is just full of life, and beyond that point is nothing but sand

Strangely this made me realize how beautiful the first game was! Like of course now it's so much detailed and realistic but it was already so good! I actually prefer how the sky was in the original, all cloudy and dark with barely a glimpse of the moon^^

Yeah the old one had an atmosphere that I find more similar to the barren wastelands of Dark Souls and I liked it. New one is charming aswell, but everything is a little too bright and saturated, the fields are too grassy / lively. Both are still great though.

I'm buying this day one and it looks stunning no doubt about it, but the ONLY small thing that bugs me is the lack of moody fog effects in the PS4 one. The sense of height and distance is a little lacking due to this but that's it! The graphics and all the moving grass effects and trees are just PHENOMENAL!

I think I prefer the murk of the PS2/PS3 version. Just gives it that otherworldly feeling that the remake is kind of missing. The remake looks very pretty, but I think that murkiness is what makes the forbidden lands so otherworldly

Eh, I REALLY want to be excited for this remake, but I think they could be doing a lot more to maintain the artistic direction of the original. It isn't just about recreating the landscapes and colossi. I think they misunderstand part of what made the original so visceral and mysterious in the first place. The PS2 original was more of an "impressionist painting" in terms of visuals, it was crude, it was imperfect, but it made a huge emotional impact despite the console's limitations. Color tones were chosen very carefully. The remake's interpretation of the world looks more like Skyrim on steroids, rather than the dreamy, ethereal landscapes of the original. I'll admit, there are some scenes that do benefit (the open field in with the rain at 1:46), but overall, they could be doing a lot more to keep it faithful. They need better color-grading and lighting shaders...which isn't that hard.

Yes they really dropped the ball on the colors they chose. Some shots look very true to the original in tone and lighting. Other times I’m sat wondering why the color scheme is the exact opposite of how it should look.

Just seems like they were very intentional with most aspects of the "preservation" and wanted to keep it as identical as they could - including the clunky control scheme, the music etc. So I just find it strange that they would diverge from the visual atmosphere of the original so much - that was one of the most memorable elements of SOTC.

For those who complain about the difference in color and the moon, it's good that it's a little different. This way the Remake leaves something for the original to be missed by the player. Same game and story from different lenses. You still have the original to go to.
