Veo el de PS4 y me parece más artificial. Me gusta más el aspecto gris y oscuro de las piedras y cómo consiguen el efecto del medioambiente en la PS2, éso si que es un trabajazo. A veces en los remasters o remakes se pasan dándole nitidez a todo y hasta parece que las piedras, personajes brillan, creen que todo se basa en el color.

Min 1:05-07 la parte dónde está el personaje con la piedra, parece más irreal (más marcada la piedra y más iluminada) que el fondo dónde está el Coloso, Min 1:42 de PS4 también, angulosa la piedra haciendo distinción entre coloso y personaje (con esto me refiero a que parece que se han pasado con ciertos detalles remarcando la diferencia entre coloso y personaje, cuando antes era todo un conjunto estético, han ido aplicando filtros por partes). No voy a entrar en detalles personales de si tengo o dejo de tener dinero para algo, creo que la discusión aquí va centrada en el aspecto del juego. Estoy entre PS4 y Switch.

Estoy de acuerdo con lo del min 1:07 de la piedra, pero eso no es culpa de la alta fidelidad ni de la iluminación de las remakes. La textura es diferente y la vieja por mas baja resolución que era estaba mejor trabajada. Con el resto nada, para mi la remake se ve muchísimo mejor y no noto la misma artificialidad. En la comparación lado a lado de 1:45 hay 2 cosas diferentes que juegan, la niebla y el enfoque. La niebla se usa mucho en juegos (y se usaba muchísimo mas en ese entonces) para cargar las texturas lejanas en menor resolución sin que se vean mal, para tener un mejor rendimiento. Justamente si se trata de hacerlo con mejor sentido entonces es mejor que la niebla este alrededor de las piernas del coloso (porque es la tierra que levanta con sus pasos) y no en todos lados. El enfoque es una decision estética en la remake, y para mi tiene mas sentido que la version original. En PS4 enfoca al coloso porque Wander es el protagonista y el esta centrado en el coloso, entonces la cámara hace lo mismo. De todas formas es un trailer y no creo que en el gameplay sea así, seria desconcertante jugar y que el personaje que estas moviendo se desenfoque.

I think PS2 wins even though it had a worse framerate and crappy textures. why? because the art style is in tact. The glowing light you see everywhere is dreamlike. The mysterious background you can never quite reach because its so blurry and out of vision makes exploring more worth it. The color scheme and the film-grain feel nostalgic and make you ask questions. The ps2 graphics are the idea of the thing, but not the thing itself. Imagination fills in the gaps better than graphics ever could

You don't seem to understand that RAM is only for memory. Also, PS2 had EDRAM for VRAM, that's a special kind of super fast RAM used for fast calculations. Xbox and Gamecube had regular RAM, just a higher amount of it. PS2 had multiple processors, EE and Graphics Synthesizer, so the hardware was completely custom. If optimised well, all processors could work in conjunction to create really impressive graphics. It's all about optimisation. There are even documents suggesting PS2 could do even more, like HDR, and some games like Matrix: Path of Neo even had normal mapping. Too bad X360 came out and devs shifted focus towards next gen consoles, despite increasing possibilities on PS2. I'd even go as far to say many X360 titles didn't look as impressive, since PS2 excelled at lighting and graphical effects. The only real limit was the VRAM, but there were workarounds, as seen in this game (huge open spaces).

as a huge fan of the PS2 version I find this so called 'best version' as a bit off frankly. The trouble with remakes is they normally expose what's hidden behind the tech. The game was made with the original hardware in mind and a result the PS2 version comes across as something like a dream. It has muddy visuals and a plodding framerate. It works much better like that just because. If you gloss everything over you completely change the mood and the resulting experience. Wouldn't have minded but I doubt users will be able to swap back to the old engine. Some things should just be left alone frankly

from my point of view the experience came from what the original was. The experience was somewhat muddy and cumbersome regards to how visuals flowed. It was this that made the experience more like the experience of a dream. The PS3 version destroyed this already and althoughthe PS4 remake does look exceptionally nice, it's not the same feel at least for me. Most people wont mind but there are some that very much do care for the original purity. I would personally argue SOTC is much more an experience than a game and so when visuals do more to distract then it raises the question why bother. You may want to disregard entirely this opinion but it does hold water with some like minded folk

Me quedo mil veces con el de ps2, la versión de ps4 se ve impresionante y hay pastito en todos lados...pero comete errores grabes que dañan la vision artistica del juego, para empezar, ahora los colosos estan en full HD y puedes verlos con lujo de detalle, pero la gracia de ese desenfoque de pa2 no era únicamente para parchear una limitación tecnica, tambien servia para hacer sentir a esas criaturas como algo realmente enorme, amplificaba la sensación de profundidad y hacia aún más notable la escala, eras un ser diminuto que intentaba luchar con criaturas que apenas si puedes ver claramente, ahora no, quitar este efecto para sacudir la distancia de dibujado en la cara de los jugadores daño la experiencia, parecen mucho más pequeños que antes aún si sus escalas son exactamente iguales, así tiene muxhos otros problemas.

Just to clarify, i guess..the "Ps2 version" you include in this video wasn't the Ps2. Its clearly the Ps3 remaster HD version. You can actually see especially from the Frame rates. The Ps2 wasn't this smooth, it can drop to frickin 13fps when i played it back in the day And of course the ratio. Ps2 wasn't that wide... And yeah, im not an expert at this so correct me if im wrong :/

No wonder there was something strange in the Play 2 version because it looked too good to play 2, in fact I have Play 2 at home and I have this game and it doesn't look so good like the video, sorry for my bad english

PS3 wasn't remastered. It looks practically the same, minus some PS2-specific effects. Only the resolution is increased. Get better video cables and a TV set if you want to see PS2 in full clarity, or emulate on Software mode via PCSX2. Hardware mode is still somewhat broken.

Awesome comparison. I've only played the PS2 version, so this with was pretty mind blowing. Btw, I hear you can get the remastered version with Playstation Now and play it off a PS4. Is this correct? I currently don't own a PS3 or a PS4, but I'm considering getting a PS4 Pro if I can play the remastered on it.
