The classic really shows their shadowy look, with mysterious glows to them. The remastered look gives incredible intricate, meticulous work and detail. It’s very hard to see one better than the other, with so much art and awe in both versions.

@@confide3734 That's your opinion, and it's fine. It is based heavily on nostalgia since the "atmosphere" is not perceived the same for everybody (like me). It's definitely not like the fog in a silent hill. That is an example an atmosphere and without is a different game. A purple-ish sky in the shadow of the colossus, one of my favorite games of all time, is not for building atmosphere. I'm just noticing this right now. The remake is better in every way and it's not the color of the sky that changes that. I'm not letting the nostalgia speak louder in that sense

There’s something extremely charming about the crusty PS2 visuals. Most PS2 games don’t hold up to modern day graphics, but somehow all of the Colossi retain their pure majesty nearly *20 years* later. I’m sure back when the game was first released, people saw them and went “That’s fucking awesome.” And now, people are STILL able to look at the PS2 version and go “That’s fucking AWESOME!” This game was truly ahead of its time. The graphical limitations did not hold it back whatsoever.

They're both awesome! But there's definitely differences between the remaster vs the remake. The remaster has the same original things from the original PS2 version, the only difference is the fact that it's remastered in HD and a higher framerate. The remake is different from the remaster in terms of sound effects, architecture, symbolism, music ques, Dormin's voice (which pisses me off in the remake), Agro's sound effects and vocal noises, the weapons sound effects, Wander's/Wanda's sound effects (when running/walking), the HUD, the sound effects used when you equip a weapon, the arrows being fired sound effects, the sword swinging sound effects, the dark energy that comes out of the colossus after its been slain is also very different.. The way it looks and sounds... also, the stabbing of the ground and stabbing of a colossi sound effects, the parachute sound effects, the Time Attack Mode time limit, the sound that the lizards make, etc. I personally miss the classic sounds of the old game as well as the symbolism embedded into all the architecture around you, in the remake they took a lot of the cool details of the symbolism away from the architecture so it looks way more plain... I don't like Dormin's voice in the remake either... :/
@YOYODODO2 жыл бұрын
It's true. I did notice that the sound effects had changed, especially the voice of pain from Wander absorbing the shadow of the colossus, the stabbing of the ground and the stabbing of a colossus and the sound effects of the arrows being fired. As for the HUD, it is the trend of new games to simplify it or directly eliminate it from the screen, so that the gaming experience is immersive, giving the game a cinematic touch :).

Bluepoint ruins everything they touch. This was nothing compared to how badly they ruined Demon’s Souls in their remake of that, but the point is that no matter the project, they idiotically change things that they shouldn’t change and have no business changing. They think they know better than the original devs, and they *NEVER DO.* If they want to make creative design decisions in a game, then they need to make their own game from the ground up instead of ruining other people’s games where every decision was already thoroughly thought out by the original designers/devs themselves!

However, as the sun rises and sets, a predictable line-up of idiots is prepared to wage war on you and every other sensible person who expresses their displeasure with the gluttonous actions of these self-indulgent corporate leeches. The irony is beyond absurd: these very individuals bitch and moan when their beloved IPs are diluted or tampered with, all because the greedy corporate piggies felt that their financial accounts weren't filling up quickly enough for them to purchase their next lavish mansion or luxurious yacht -- they'll never be content. The masses' gullible and blind support of the entertainment industry has allowed it to descend into a disgusting and repulsive pit of greed and depravity, and nothing will change if people don't start talking against this shit.@@anti-ethniccleansing465

I wonder what exactly the developers changed at the colossi. Because mostly they look the same, but the small details are often different, specially the rock parts on them. Maybe they took all the old base models and changed only a few parts? It's obvious at Nr 12 though, where the horns had been completely changed. Also, the animations seem to have been completely recycled - nothing against that! Recycling is important, if you remake a game, because it saves time. But some should have been remaked too. Specially the animations of Agro and Wander, who don't run like normal living beings, but rather like aliens.

@stefanodegioia1598 Жыл бұрын
2:28 why is this shot better in the original? Look at the fur and the lighting.
@Terra_Stara Жыл бұрын
Simple answer is limitations leading to a distinctive look. The mist and smaller FOV along with basically having to distinguish fur from the plates and how the meshes worked in the original it had to have some more distinct details. Barba's beard for example is all a bunch of planes moving against each other and the same goes for a lot of the other colossi's hair details. It also helped from stuff basically gluing into the wrong places that happened a lot more in the original. So basically by moving certain pieces further from the body it helped a bit. Most of the information I provided are from people who do mesh and asset dives into games and a few interviews where they talked about the game design and building essentially bosses that doubled as moving levels. Now with modern technology though we can use more tris on stuff and keep stuff tighter and our consoles won't explode.

2:53 Wow! This game has been my favorite game since it came out on the PlayStation 2, and it is only now that I am realizing how uncreative and generic the name is for the bird colossus. Hahah. 😂 All of the other colossus names are really cool (I even named my Dark Souls 2 character “Phaedra” after the horse in SotC), but for the bird, the best the devs could come up with was “Avion?” That is just one letter off from “avian,” which is the biological descriptive term for birds. Lmfao. I know this because I have a pet parrot, and I have to take him to an avian vet. Too funny!

@Terra_Stara Жыл бұрын
@@straightouttanehelo some areas maybe, but shadow of the colossus has more depth and actual angles on their structures. Toram relies way more on textures than shadow of the colossus. Part of that is just simply that there are a lot of scalable surfaces, so you need to recognize what to climb on and how they used planes on the hairs and stuff to be what wander (the main playable character, agro is playable and a character in their own right due mainly to crazy good writing.) Can latch on to. It also at times led to some real jankiness in some of the fights because wander is actually between the planes and swapping between them. (When talking about planes I mean they used rectangles on the mesh and textured over them so the untextured models like on Barba is just a beard made out of a bunch of rectangles and triangles)
