I wouldn't, not going with modern standards. Camera is awful at times, horse control is clumsy and dated. I feel it's artistic vision is so strong people are blinded to it's direct gameplay failings. A perfect score in 2006 though, I can agree with.

Videogames as an ART, I have played some of the best (Zelda, Metal Gear, Final Fantasy), but this was the first one that really proved to me that videogames can and should be considered as a new ARTFORM, thus a new ART!!! When videogames history is going to be written, Shadow of the Colossus will be there in one way or another. I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS FOR EVERYONE, BUT THIS IS AN ARTWORK, GIVE IT A GO... Fumito Ueda and his teamwork are true artists. Take care.

Hope you enjoy it! I'll never forget the awe I felt in 2004/2005 when I first played a demo and encountered the first colossus. I shot arrow after arrow at it and kept wondering why it wasn't dying. The closer I got to it though, the more it blew my mind that "Holy fuck....I have to CLIMB this thing!? And the PS2 can handle it!?!? WOOOOAAAAAHHH!!!" As the reviewer said, the PS2 handled it but it DID suffer in the framerate department at times. Hopefully you still go through the same awe most of us did when you play it for the first time.

Very true. "Shadow Of The Colossus" has a certain magic that no other open-world game has managed to capture. However, "Praey For The Gods" is a nice spiritual successor & the closest thing we've gotten so far to a game that's similar to that of Fumito Ueda's masterpiece. Made by 3 dev's over a 6 year period & fully crowd funded, "Praey For The Gods" needs more love & a physical release. It's certainly a game that fans of S.O.T.C. should enjoy.

Edmond - Excellent video. I had not considered the fact that some of the colossi do not even attack Wander. It is an excellent observation that helps explain why the game is so effective, i.e., boss battles are usually a means to an end (e.g., to save Princess Peach), but in SOTC the narrative causes them to become the end in themselves.

I really feel bad about the way I played this game, since I did end up using a walkthrough a few times for figuring out how to beat some of the more complex colossi, primarily the third one. I really feel like I didn’t play the game properly and feel bad cause I feel like I didn’t get the true experience it was going for. Still, an amazing game nonetheless

Thank goodness they Kept Kow Otani's Original Soundtrack! Personally, unless they added the "missing" colossi from the Art Book as unlock-able content, I'll be keeping my old PS2 game. Call me old school but I liked the PS2 struggling to keep up with the sheer scale of the game. Also, I HATED the slow-down effect they added in the HD re-release when you killed a Colossus.

what images to use to describe what this game is?! super challenging. it also needs a very different approach, cause it literally isnt a game, but a piece of art. one word of criticism: i disagree with the collossi. i think for a ps4 game, they are rather weak actually. in particular the animations. theyre great for 480p24, but dont work for me at 1080+p60. id have preferred to make them just a bit more lively. they seems overly robotic in this day and age. and i dont think that is intended.

Beautiful game! Both visually and emotionally. Felt Really bad for the colossus because they were just minding their own business and I went to kill them. Every stab I made to wound them was heart wrenching. Maybe I feel this strongly because I’m used to playing games where the enemy comes at you and you’re just defending yourself. Plus, I’m used to killing humans in games and we humans are a selfish species that brings harm to everything we touch.
