Hey Luke, here's a tip to help you maximise your runes: gold pickle fowl foot increases your gained runes by a percentage. Like you, I resent using a consumable if there's a chance I won't win the boss fight, BUT if you have the foot in your quick item bar, then after winning a boss fight, there's enough of a delay between winning the fight and the runes landing to quickly munch the foot and boost your boss fight rewards by 30%. BTW you did way better than I did at the first area! Blackgaol Knight took me over an hour.

I found it interesting that I ended up with a very similar build to you - the Moonveil was my main weapon for ages, right up to when I got the Dark Moon Greatsword after which I've barely used anything else. Key to the switch for me was that you only need to use magic to activate the glow - after it's lit up you can use those heavy attack beams with impunity (and I absolutely do).

Remember: 1. at this point in that game, any new weapons (and shields) you get will need to be heavily upgraded at the blacksmith, to be at all relevant. 2. Your old specs must have been for using the frenzied flame, which you've taken on. 3. Your shield (if upgraded) is very useful for parrying even without the parry action - hold it up, then pull R2 after their attack hits it. 4. Use the summons - especially the mimic tear - it wrecks and is why Melania only took me 6 tries (i gave it a sword with gravity pull, which interrupts everything that's not a giant flying god-like boss)

Regarding [4], the fact that it wrecks is not necessarily what everyone is after though. At least for those of us whose brains are broken in a certain way, the challenge of completely learning the bosses and their movesets is the main draw of a game like Elden Ring. The mimic is good enough at drawing aggro (and has a large enough health pool) that it can remove much of that challenge. Beating the hardest boss in the game in only a few tries would honestly feel extremely anticlimactic to me. I suspect it's a conscious choice by Luke not to summon or buff a lot before fights. And honestly, judging by how Luke has been playing the other souls games, I'm sure he's a strong enough player to comfortably finish the DLC anyway =)

So I have never played/watched a playthrough of Elden Ring and I want to know, is there any game lore that I need to know for the DLC to make sense? I define make sense as making about as much sense as DS1 makes your first time through, so only absolutely crucial things if there are any.

Main things that might help (while avoiding spoilers should you wish to play it yourself, and not going into more detail than is necessary - there’s so much lore omg): - There is/was a Queen, Marika, who was the chosen vessel of an outer god known as the Greater Will. As its vessel, she was imbued with the Elden Ring, a connected lattice of runes that granted Marika great powers, those of a god. - Before the events of the game, Marika decided to shatter the Elden Ring, which broke it up into its individual ‘Great Runes’. Her many children (referred to as Demigods) then warred against each other to claim the Great Runes and hope to be the next to ascend to godhood. - The events of the game have the player character, the ‘Tarnished’, seek out these Demigods and kill them, to gather the Runes and reforge the Elden Ring & restore balance to the world. - One of Marika’s Demigod children, Mohg, “abducted” his half-brother, Miquella (another Demigod, afflicted to forever remain in the form of a young boy), and “trapped” him in a womb, in the hopes of marrying him later. - Miquella however has his own plans, and so despite his body being encased in a big womb (with just his outstretched hand hanging out), some part of him escaped to the Land of Shadow. - Once the Tarnished defeats Mohg, Miquella’s faithful quest after him to the Land of Shadow, and they get transported there by touching Miquella’s outstretched hand, which is where this video begins (after the respeccing) One can roleplay their own Tarnished’s reasons for following Miquella to the Land of Shadow, but a general motivation would be that the Tarnished wants to find out what the heck Miquella is up to, so is following their footsteps to figure it out. Hope that helps anchor you for the coming playthrough!

Unbelievable to almost give me a heart attack by abandoning 130,000 souls for fifteen minutes for an impossible fight with a volcano on legs that you won by about 0.2 seconds. This should be banned 😠😠😠 Nah but to be real for a moment, I genuinely played Elden Ring solely because of your Randomised DS (having never played a Souls game) and thought that I wouldn't enjoy watching spoilers for the DLC and this series wouldn't be as fun without the random and with the wandering around, so would give the first vid a shot and then skip the rest, but honestly I enjoyed this too. Something about your style of play and banter and the way you edit that just works well somehow, not sure what it is. I even couldn't get through Ellen's Bioshock and she's my favourite and I tried really hard, so I do mean it sincerely that I'm glad this content still pleases me and long may it continue 💖

People who complain about Moonveil crack me up. Especially since I never found the bloody thing. I'm pretty thorough too. If you find a thing you get to use a thing. Edit; I think one of the best things in Shadow is using those giant fire guys as a progress bar. Very soon you'll just see one and be able to just effortlessly walk up and smoke it. Super satisfying.

Blackgaol knight is literally Guts from "Berserk" manga. If you put out his helmet using mods, he even have a same scar on cheeks and nose. Have a good time, playing SoE. I done it already and its hard. Have fun and cheers from fan from Poland 👍👍
