@itsjustme625 good question. Tbh, sp's don't agree on what is the best opener. I talked a bit to priests from hardcore guilds and the current opener I am using is : SWP - fiend - MF - MF - MB (if orbs) - VT - DP - etc. This gives you fiend + 2 MF's to get 1 orb (remember that SWP also has a chance of giving orbs) This works in 95% of the cases to give you 1 orb before you have to MB. you can gamble and go for one more find flay if you want. Added bonus is SWP doesn't need to be refreshed.

@stry423 Mind Spike is mostly for PvP and questing. In PvE you use the spell on adds that die within 3-6 seconds. For example, you would use them on the cats on Majordomo, on meteors in Alysrazor Heroic and on the adds in the Ragnaros fight.

@mrkariola moreover, Sp's are not about using 1 big damaging spell. You'll notice, especially on heroic fights, that moving will mean you deal a lot more damage by keeping your dots up and using MB on cd rather than waiting a couple of seconds for AA.

I like your video. I have been Shadow Priesting for 3 years. Your ui set up is almost identical to mine but my scales are smaller as I like as I don't like to be hindered with my view of the battle and things going on around me. I'm going to highly recommend this to people who need to know the basics of Spriesting

@TheRet665 Looks like you really took the time to watch and listen to my vid ... You get Empowered Shadows by casting Mind Blast when you have any number of Shadow Orbs up. You get the ability to proc orbs at level 10 when you choose to spec Shadow.

@LeilaUI Last time I checked I am using only 1 Reckless gem in a red socket, not multiple... Without that orange gem I am BELOW the soft haste cap of 2589 haste rating so yes I must keep it like that. The reason for gemming this way is because I enchanting my gloves with 65 Mastery instead of 50 haste. I think that gaining that amount of mastery over losing 20 intellect is a bigger bonus, especially since any upgrade on my gear will probably give me enough haste to change that gem again.

@xxFairestxx Your gear can still be improved: farm JP and get the T11 legs for a 2set bonus. You're wearing a healing trinket (Core) Some blue trinkets (Gale of Shadows) are better than that. If you have the gold, buy the Darkmoon Card: Volcano which is better than almost every trinket in Firelands. Try reaching 30% haste (in shadowform) If you can't reach it, than reforging to mastery is good until you have enough haste.

@ionstorm48 Dominos and Shadowed Unit Frames. Dominos because it also keeps my keybinds and allows me to get rid of bag bars and stuff Shadowed Unit Frames because Xperl is too big and uses too much RAM. SUF takes a while to set up but once set up is very stable and solid.

@itsjustme625 well your dots also benefit from evangelism (flaying 5 ticks) so you should always do 5 MF ticks before applying dots anyways, so you might want to use that to "fish" for an orb. I usually get one before the 5th tick. As for stats, Mastery almost overtakes Haste, so no I don't expect crit to go higher than mastery. I expect we'll stack haste till a certain cap again '(37.5% probably) and then full mastery while being hit capped. Just speculation tho ;-)

@davidvlaminck Yea that's the only thing. "(if orbs)" makes me hesitant to try it again. There have been times on bosses where I'll go *fishing* for an orb and wont get one in 3 MF's, so i lost a huge amount of dps whereas i could have placed all dots. One suggestion that you may want to do is post a video of your stat priorities and gear. I know that obviously int > hit/spirit > haste > mastery > crit. But thats only for this tier because of the 4p bonus. You think crit > mastery next tier?

You want me to update the guide 2 weeks before 4.3 ? :p Besides that's just an opener, which I'm sure you know we don't have a "better" or "worse" version of. There is no evidence to prove that one opener is better over another. However I would like to say that right now, I would have opened differently. Right now, my opener is : SWP - fiend - Flay - Flay (2ticks) - MB (hopefully with an orb) - VT - DP - archangel - MF - MF - ... If I get an orb by the time I MB, all my procs are up too.

Why are you using Archangel after you cast mind blast?The damage of your Mind blast in combination with Archangel and the set 4 of tier 12 (Dark flames) is just INSANE!

@xxFairestxx I think something is just wrong with what you are doing. Try watching the movie again and see if you can improve. Are you using dot timers like I do? (guide for addons coming before Monday I hope) Do you have a way to track empowered shadows ? Don't worry too much about dummy dps, it goes up quite a lot with gear and especially don't compare it to dps in raids ;-) Yes I did 7k more but I have profs, a pretty good gear setup and well .. maybe a bit more feeling with dots..

@bukupriest you're kidding right? Just rewind the vid and try to listen again. If that doesn't work, use my cast bar and dot timer to see what spells I'm casting. There isn't a fixed rotation that I'm doing. That's what video is for... To explain what you have to do ;-)

@itsjustme625 As I said, you shouldn't be using Mind Spike unless there's 1 small add that dies fast. In that case, using Mind Spike will still be more efficient even if you lose time waiting for the gcd. Haste will probably stay superior and thus you'll still stack it for your other spells regardless of Mind spike. Are you sure Mind Spike is always that fast btw? I thought you needed 50% haste to reduce it to 1 second.

@mrkariola Had a discussion about this on mmochampion. It seems that it doesn't matter much because that MB just has to be used on cd and you need to follow an archangel with 2 mind flay's to get dark evangelism back. I'm not saying it's wrong to do archangel - MB - MF - MF but checking what we deal damage with, I rather have evangelism up and get 10% more on dots than boosting MB for 20% (and i'm probably using it soon after the MF's anyways).

@davidvlaminck one last question. Currently my mind spike is at 1.1s cast time with DI. By the time i hit full heroic t12, it will be 1.0s flat. So when im in t13 gear, it will go down to .9s and then it will fall below the gcd, not to mention heroic t13 which will make it go to approx. 0.8s. With the t13 4p and if i understand it correctly such that we should be spamming the hell out of mind spike and mind blast when we pop sfiend, how can we spam mind spike if we have to wait for the gcd? :(

I think mana was a real concern back then. I noticed in the vid I never clipped so I assume clipping was not Optimal. In raids you also have to move so that's an excuse to clip and then mind blast

Why do you put Orange gems in Red Sockets? You loose 20 int (= +0.03 % crit + +24.26 spell and only but get -0.17 % hast) But you are already on softhastcap so thats np

Good video, but I have one concern. Due to the RNG of shadow orbs, some shadow priests choose to start off the fight with: prepot - VT/SWP/DP - MB - shadow fiend (with int procs) - (refresh dots then) MFx2 - Archangel - MB again. So essentially there are 2 different ways of starting the shadow priest rotation and due to this, is it just based on what you like? Your method seems to yield more dps but its based on luck that you get a shadow orb within the first 2 MF's.

How are you doing 20k dps!? On my priest I do absolutely horrible damage on the dummy! Mind looking at my armory? I use your same rotation... My name is Defiled, on dragonmaw. US armory. Other than having no professions yet, what's the problem? Bad gemming/spec or something? Teach me!! haha. I've read all the guides...I just dont know.

PvP doesn't have a rotation like PvE and I'm not very good at PvP (read horrible) so I can't give you any advice

As a shadow priest who has raided for 3 of the worlds top 20 guilds I can assure you that your starting rotation is wrong. Why did you cast all your dots, especially VT and DP before you mind blasted and actvated your Empowering shadows. If you had just hit Mind blast as soon as you got that first orb, your VT and DP would be hitting for ~30% more based on your mastery. Update your guide, its wrong.
