Shadowgate Review: Enter The Living Castle

I'm not a horror fan really and I think Shadowgate is nifty. The other two games in that Point and click Series are good too (Deja vu and the Uninvited)

I remember playing Shadowgate on NES (1989). Had no idea they had remade the video game back in 2014, and now a board game version.

Ooof, this looked awful to me. The overview makes it seem that it's just a boring, random, luck-fest. Didn't see anything about the mechanics that would make it interesting.

I picked this up purely for nostalgia. It’s a fun idea but would have better been done as an Unlock or Exit.

Your rating is fair. I immediately bought this sight unseen solely because I played the NES game a billion times when I was a kid. The board game is... fine. I'd rather play the myriad of other great games out there though.

I sounds a bit like a high fantasy version of Elder Signs but more mitigating stats and less dice hatred. 😉

I played through the original NES game way back when, as well as Uninvited which plays the same way but came out first. Also backed the remake from years ago, and finished that one. Never got around to the original sequel or N64 version. I thought about picking this one up but to be fair, I really don't feel that this one would keep me interested for very long.

Ugh. Experience points? Stats? Quests? RNG? Shadowgate was NONE of these things! Maybe it would have made a fine escape-room style game or dungeon crawler, but this is a complete miss.

Haha, she really leans into the Killmilla name. I think they're really good friends from their banter on their videos. Their videos together are pretty funny. That being said, I played the original Shadowgate and wow.... I bet it doesn't hold up now at all. I'm gonna have to find it somewhere.

Considering how the review ended Joey might've unlocked a new boss fight but I don't know if anyone could be beefed up enough to take on Camilla. Seems like a boss you'd be avoiding for the entire time cuz nothing could defeat it.
