"Pain is a part of happiness." When I lost my son in 2014, as a mother, the pain choked me I can't think of anything in order to ease it. It' s unusual for me to think that my child got ahead of me that I am here and he's not. That I am living and he's not. Ten years after his passing , the pain is still the same. But I think there's no expiry date for grieving. I missed you so much my son, till we meet again. Thank you for this very moving movie.

The quote, “The pain then is a part of the happiness now”. What a profound reality, But after losing my youngest son unexpectedly ten months ago, made me realize a personal truth. The love I continue to have for him, the memories of being in a father/son relationship, are in the daily tears I shed now. I’m not ashamed of these tears. And I wouldn’t trade him or these tears for the world. “The pain now is a part of the happiness then”. Love is that powerful.

I remember going to see this movie at the theatre in Portland, Oregon. When leaving afterward I experienced a great phenomenon -- every man who was also walking out of it was crying, or obviously had been crying. From young twenty-somethings up through senior citizens. Some were hiding their faces so no one would notice, but others weren't so worried about blowing their noses or wiping their tears in public. It was amazing. Have never experienced that again.

Shadowlands is a 1993 British biographical drama film about the relationship between academic C. S. Lewis (played by Anthony Hopkins) and Jewish American poet Joy Davidman (played by Debra Winger), her death from cancer, and how this challenged his Christianity. It was directed by Richard Attenborough with a screenplay by William Nicholson based on his 1985 television film and 1989 stage play of the same name. The 1985 script began life as I Call It Joy written for Thames Television by Brian Sibley and Norman Stone. Sibley later wrote the book, Shadowlands: The True Story of C. S. Lewis and Joy Davidman. The film won the 1993 BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film. The film marked the last film appearance of English actor Michael Denison

Im sorry you did not find love....This film is so true about the price of loving someone deeply. I was orphaned at 16 and it was as if the floor fell out from under me...I had lost all connection to the world amd I had no pratocal knowledge about how the world works. I muddled through...books were my only, cpmfprt. A lawyer took pity upon me amd gave me a job filing. I went from upper middle class a large home, people who loved me to no one. I spent much of the time terrified. But I survived amd was able to enter community college at 21 working there then my 4yr degree masters and doctorate...by the time I finished I understood. I didnt feel lost anymore and them I met the love of my life. We were together 41 years. Getting to love someone so special all that time and having all our dreams of adventure come true I always thought I would leave first since he was 5 yrs older. But no. At first all I had was an enormously deep sense of gratitude. I had gotten a very good deal from loving someone deeply and though no one could replace him I knew I had to open to life again. I uad stayed at home shunning contact. Almost immediately a very gpod man was attracted to me he asked a mutual friend about me and arranged a meeting....he sat beside me getting to knpw me amd then he showed up everywhere public I went . It didnt feel like stalking ot felt lile someone needimg ME again. Slowly we got to know one another. He has COPD and is 7yrs older than I am. I hope fate will,be kind this time and let ME gp first. Mourning and loss is the price for loving someone deeply.

It was the same with my darling husband. He so badly wanted to live longer. He was only 69 and he died due to the fact that I wasn't allowed to be with him at the hospital, due to Covid restrictions. They didn't know how to care for him. He died from hospital acquired pneumonia. He was making such an amazing progress but from time to time he needed to be hospitalised. I had to provide the most vital everyday care, as nurses did not know how to do it. It's four years now and I cannot recover from the bad memories of everything what had happened to him, and I'd choose to join him right now if I could, as life without him is a never ending nightmare. I don't believe anyone or anything wants to die but nature is in control and the quality of life is what I think is most important. I often think of dying, as I am in the winter of my life and don't believe I would wish to suffer or be so crippled that I could not function. Not having someone to care for me is another problem I must face when weighing quality of life. I believe there is a part of your mother that knows you were there for her to help her, comfort her and assist her during her final moments here. I believe Love never dies, ever, and I believe you will meet again.

Only at 30 min in, & I already love the movie. Great pairing for lead roles between Anthony & Debra. Why can't they make movies like this anymore? I don't watch cancer movies, they're just so heartbreaking. But this was so worth it. Beautifully done. TY Paul, for the upload. Blessings...

I lost my mother as a child, and I lost my wife to cancer. She too was much younger than me and I felt that I should have gone instead of her - she had so much more to live and to give. This film just tore my soul apart. But it was a catharsis that needed to happen... Survivor's guilt is a massive burden...

Anthony Hopkins has to be the master of acting. Personally, i think that it is his voice, something about it that stays with you. He portrays that inate gift of his, and i salute him for same. Love is the greatest gift of all. The old adage "Health is your Wealth" rings through as well. A Classic.

@@dellacooper-ds5hl...wow..you're the first I've ever heard say such a thing. How beautiful & refreshing even though I know you'd have missed him sorely. I wrote in my diary after my sister died by her own hands: 'better to have had her & known her than never had her at all'.
