when i think about it - holy priest got a bit of love after castle - when they buffed our holy hymn (leaving behind heal buff) and added that our symbol of hope reduced defensives, finally we had something to bring to raid

Man Resto druid was so good and so much fun to play in raids. I am so happy to see where you put boomkin. I got so much shit from other players for being boomkin mainly in raid and mythic plus. But your reasoning on the utility was very valid and I think people overlook that a lot with their damage output and I hate it.

I don't think you could ever argue that Balance druid wasn't S because they were great in all 3 raids even the last one despite their overall dps being garbage. What I think people actually mean is that they sucked so much to play that whenever you were asked to go on the druid it just sucked for the person having to play balance druid. Whoever designed tge balance druid gameplayloop needs to be charged with terrorism.

the argument that utility is their strong suit is just weak for most players. yes they were strong in sanctum. no idea about castle nathria but in sepulcher they fell pretty hard. no one wants to sit at the bottom of the dps meter and get told theyre still strong cuz of utility. sure you can suffer through it. but no one is excited to play a dps class that just sits near the bottom. some will argue that im just too much dps brain, but i rolled dps for a reason. it was also even more annoying during sepulcher because they were getting shit on in keys as well. but its always different to look at classes you didnt personally play, like i would probably also rate the utility of other classes higher but then again i wasnt the one who had to play around said utility or sacrifice for it like on my own character fx.

Yeah people always get on boomies for complaining but the complaints I saw all expansion were based on how bad our rotation felt (besides S3 m+ damage). The stellar drift change made our AOE rotation problems even worse since we were pressing it even less, but everyone memed on boomies for complaining even though it didn't effect our damage. The damage wasn't the issue! Anyway dragonflight looks promising.

I remember how as Unholy I dominated every meter only being competed with by our Fire Mage and our Boomkin. I swapped to Frost on SoFo but I realized I should just went Frost in M+ and for most of SoFo with exception to Jailer, Halondrus & Skolex. Felt like a real clown because of how clunky the cds felt in ST

The devs have already stated that Retribution will never be buffed damage wise for raid to be brought for that alone. Because we have "too much" utility. which is laughable when even are never used in progression by the top guilds. or sought out after. our utility is brought by Holy paladins. our damage is middle of the road. I can garantee you that Rets would gladly give up some of our "utility." to have a dps kit that was something to be envious of, but that hasn't happened that I can remember since like ICC in Wrath.

Fire mage filled more niches than Windwalker lol. 1 minute burst for Sludge, one of the best AoE burst for SLG, amazing single target burst for M sire & Kael'Thalas, great on Sylvanas & still best pure ST mage spec in sanctum and because godly in AoE when flamestrike was made usable for SKB procs, great for Anduin although frost was best, great for jailer execute, great for most of sepulcher

One thing I think could make sense to rank is not just spec, but each class, or possibly each class by role. Even though Moonkin was probably the best individual spec. If you compare them to warlocks overall, it's very similar.

I think Max didn't remember that assa was the worst spec of all befor 9.05 hits; it became good in ST for the rest of the expansion after the buff to s'n'd being refreshed automatically. But it was dogshit the IMPORTANT part of Nathria, so it end up at the very bottom of B or even C-tier imo. And havoc suffered a comparable fate, because their st was super low , while vengeance was meta tank. Took long until the much needed buff was in.

@@Frawt Most of the tier sets make complete sense that they're generic. We just got overhauled trees that need to be tuned before they can be properly judged. Tier sets should NOT change the way your class plays on a fundamental level. People have been freaking out and it's rather amusing. These people say they don't want borrowed power and Blizzard moves us away from borrowed power, yet they want borrowed power to resurface in their tier sets??? People do not rationalize the shit they blurt out on kneejerk reactions.

moonkins weird cause ya they were gigachad for nathria and SoD but as far as Mythic Sep is concerned, they fell off quite a bit, especially in the damage department because our tier set was kind of trash compared to most other dps. But they were relevant longer than any other spec this xpansion so i guess it makes sense they top the list. Im just salty how bad we were in M+ in season 3 lol

Been falling back on Boomkin alt most of this xpac and I usually alt Ret but they are never good, i just enjoy them haha. I wish they were better.

@@Kc-ib8hz raids and open world. I do what I need to for m+ I'm not constantly grinding it like others. I do my weeklies and +15s, but I'm not pushing higher keys like 20s. Mostly is what I mean. So even if mage is good in them, it's not a big deal to me. Also pvp isn't a huge form of content to me. I don't care for arenas. If we had more focus on rated BGs I'd care about that but arenas aren't interesting to me. Not sure how it's considered big content. Barely know anyone that even pvps.

You can't be a DPS spec that is the literal lowest throughput spec in the game for a tier and end up in S tier. Boomkin was S++++ in Sanctum, and A+ / S- in CN (council hyper inflated), and was a hard C in S3. Boomkin is like A+ for the expansion. Only H Pal is S for the whole expansion, IMO.

who among any of the dps specs besides warlock can say that they dominated 2/3 raid tiers to the point where they were being STACKED in 3+ and even in the last tier where they are considered "weak" they were still garanteed a raid spot for 1-2 of them because they have THE BEST priority damage of any class in the game. idk man only one i can think of its DKs because of how clutch grips/mass grips were.

It's very possible to simply not have an S tier dps spec. If you remove RWF guilds, and just look at regular CE players who CE'd with regular gear progression, there was no need to have a single boomkin in S3. Warlock did 20%+ more damage, and shamans have roar. I like Max and I don't mind the moonkin memes his community likes to joke about, and its his opinion/list so he can put specs wherever he wants. In my list, you can't have a dps spec that is the worst dps in the game for a season end up in S tier. By that logic, there's no way Destro and Surv can end up in D tier since they gap the competition by such a huge margin in S3. Their S3 alone would put them up to like B. The only S tier spec this expansion was H pally, for obvious reasons. It was the goat in all tiers. There are a lot of A+ specs, boomkin, warlock, blood, etc.

MM/Wild Spirits does A LOT of burst (aoe) on a 2 min CD. In Nathria, there was a "bug" where your Serpentstalker legendary would proc Wild Spirits a second time due to the legendary applying Serpent Sting. In Sanctum/Sepulcher, the NF covenant legendary was basically 100% extra Wild Spirits damage if there are less than 5 targets inside the circle (so a target-capped version of the above bug).

@@okkipooky8612 SP is like the stepchild of blizzard, it gets some food and clothes so child custody wont intervene, but it stays at home when the rest of the family is visiting disneyland. no one will take a mediocre dd just for pi, when they change nothing he brings to the table he will still be ignored for classes like mages and warlocks, where one has bloodlust, intbuff and food while the other brings healthstones, battlerez and gates. SP brings nothing Holy/Diszi cant bring and WL/Mage have 3 DD specs vs priest 1 dd specc, they are way more likely to fuck up priest than the other classes.

I feel so bad for Rets at this point... most of the things they are complaining about are the same things they have been saying for 6+ years now, and most of the things they asked for are simply things they had before and moving back to the original class fantasy. The community gave a TON of quality, organized, and well thought out feedback to the point where you can "paint by numbers" fix the spec and then balance the numbers. Then the dev ignored 95% of the feedback they got insisting it "wasn't the direction they wanted to go." Class and spec tree is a dumpster fire. Does a decade need to go by of "you think you do, but you don't" before something can be done about this?

They were originally counterparts, and I'd like to see the exact same thing done to Pallies: tons of utility options in class tree, very little throughput in class tree, both class and spec trees very wide with tons of options, interesting talent options in spec tree with a very clear focus and unique play style for each section, etc.

Seems like you've never visited one of the Paladin forums/topics in the past 2-3 months. There are literally thousands of comments, feedback from the community to the developer team. Nobody is listening, seems like. They either don't care and bother with Paladins, either they lack imagination, innovation and creativity. Maybe all of these. Or they just "hate" the class, I don't know anymore. Mark my words, a lot of people are cancelling their subs right now, don't pre-order Dragonflight or are going to reroll another class - that comes for the Paladin, of course, and not only, as I've read many more players are not pleased with their classes and/or specs and with what they are seeing right now. Next expansion is far from ready to be released so soon. I even won't be surprised if they delay it - twice in a row (the case with Shadowlands).

The difference is that Resto was good from the jump in Sepulcher, and thus was used in prog throughout the entire tier, but MW was good for the second half of SoD after high end guilds had already finished the raid. At their peaks if you ignore prog timing, MW was for sure better but its all about timing.

As a shaman main I find it incredibly weird to see Enhance in A, but Ele in B. Enhance was pretty dog almost the entire expansion UNTIL Sepulcher where it was strong for purely just Boss Damage, it was probably overall A tier in Sepulcher just because it didnt offer much in the way of any of the fights that had adds or 2+ targets. In Sanctum it was still pretty bad though, although better than it was in CN because its ST was better to the point that they were actually worth bringing for WF totem(also that was heavily influenced by Rogue being super strong with frost dom sockets, and EoN). Whereas Ele was pretty good for most of the xpac, it was actually strong in CN after getting buffed, and it was strong in Sepulcher. I find it weird that you specifically mentioned how great it was for Sanctum when Sanctum was the raid I spent more time on the bench for during prog than any other raid as Ele because Ele's ST was pretty dog back then. It just had value for mythic prog on specifically Soulrender, Fatescribe, KT, and Sylv aka the fights where there was actually AoE since that was the only thing it was good for. And mind you, despite those fights being the only bosses you wanted it for, I still got benched for Soulrender because we had WW/Boomies and didnt need the extra AoE, and also got benched on Sylv prog because we had the option of bringing me (on ele) and 2 venthyr Boomies, or bench me and bring 3 Venthyr boomies, which obviously my guild decided 3 venthyr boomies was much better since they had a huge impact on mythic Sylv.

Could be more comp specific tho. If you raided all xpac with thirsty warriors or rogues then windfury brings so much power, while ele Shaman can be subbed out with a moonkin at an advantage.

Enhance just brings so much to a raid with windfury, particularly in SoD and Seppy C that even though we were bin in CN, A is correct. Even being the lowest damage as an individual in SoD, the amount of extra damage we bring to a group is impossible to look over. Without Enhance you're giving up 3-8%~ on 4 other people in your raid, which absolutely dwarfs some other classes that do more damage individually.

I need to say that some specs are at the bottom simply because people don’t want to explore unknowns. At the beginning of each expansion, some toxic “good players” write “guides” on wowhead or icy veins and make people think only a few specs are playable. Then it comes the self-fulfilling process. Everyone believes those toxic guides and only casual players play unpopular specs. You mentioned that arcane was good in 9.0.5. That was because I explored the unknown. It is not rocket science, people just need to try different specs.

I think Aff and Destro should both be two ranks higher than shown - A and B respectively. Demo is definitely S - it was very good in SOD and BIS in Sepulcher. Aff was BIS in CN when demo and destro were legit pretty bad (demo was only good on sludgefist). Destro was actually quite good in SOD and Sepulcher, but it was underplayed because of demo being giga - it was better than most A and B tier classes until the nerf in S4.

Unholy was SO GOOD in CN that they straight up gave it a 45% Mastery nerf that it will likely not recover from for a while It feels real bad to swap from a FDK to UDK and see your mastery go from 60% to 35%

Frost mage carried sod until fire get the buffs. And still frost is really good on st damage when fire doesnt get PI Frost not in fire level overall but for sure better than arcane

SoD wasn't so much that Frost was great, it was more so that the other two specs were worse, but they needed Arcane Intellect. I think the rationale behind arcane being above frost is that Arcane had an important niche in a fight and frost didn't, although still close to eachother overall.
