After all these years Travis's conversation with Garcia finally payed off. He even got up new game+. What a hero.

Funnily, Garcia's VA is Steve Blum, who was the voice of Marcus Fenix in the earliest trailers for Gears 1.

Game still holds up pretty well for me. That bit about realism vs snappy arcade movements is why I'm more biased towards Japan's TPS games during that particular era. And I think I enjoy SOTD more today than usual after everything else I've played in recent years. That punk vibe still shines through even after what happened behind-the-scenes, and it sticks out more when compared to modern games.

I also did not vibe well with the stiff and heavy physics every third person shooter from a western developer made in that era had. Vanquished was the best third person shooter of that era and I’ll fight anyone that disagrees!

This remaster may be very bare bones. But it includes all of the necessary small changes that makes it so great, and at a really good price. Did wish they would reanimate the mouth in cutscenes though. The way they animate them gives a really square shape to the mouth. The same issue was also in lollipop chainsaw

Replaying this game made me miss how unique the old games felt from each other. Even when following the same formula they all had such a different feel that made me go “wow I haven’t seen this in the genre before” Realism as an art style definitely is beautiful and I think it’s insane how good and close to life games have reached. But I miss how different each game felt from each other especially in its art

I always found it fascinating that this game was made off of the bones of Kurayami and it shows in spades. This is more or less the product of EA’s imagination and Suda’s/Mikami’s minor input but Massimo Guarini’s ideas that were able to salvage what was already made of Kurayami to get the game shipped and I’m at least happy that Suda’s come to embrace it even in the face of what it took to get it made.

I totally agree about the cutscene skip for new runs bit, especially with stuff like RE4 and its remake. I know what’s up, I wanna shoot it with my new cool guns and the fully upgraded ones, lemme at ‘em. Also I feel like a few of Grasshopper’s projects have had that “graphically future proof” feel, Killer7 lent itself WONDERFULLY to upscaling for modern monitor and television displays even just through Dolphin emulation, and the heavy visual stylization of their projects in general essentially has that effect in and of itself because overtime, new games have been inspired by hyper-stylized graphics from the past like Killer7’s and Jet Set Radio’s, and they’ve crystalized those looks formally into a recognizable aesthetic, style and form.

Got it on switch and loved the motion controls, I felt grateful for the remaster given that it was cheaper than getting a ps3 copy and was a way to support grasshopper.

I'm 21 and I'm sayin' they don't make em like they used to. I get why it happened but it's still disappointing how western games really kicked the arcade out of third person shooters... and action games altogether, but that's a different discussion. Arcade philosophy will always be supreme to me and seeing an arcadey shooter get a good remaster is nice. Just hope we get more people on the train asking why everything plays so much slower these days.

Personally, I kinda miss this "bygone" era of shooter games. In a post-TLOU 2 landscape, part of me just wants to spout off some contrarian talking point on why TLOU isn't as much of a masterpiece as everyone says it is (I don't like the gameplay), and have a revisionist take on something like RE6, and why I think it's underrated, even though SoTD and Vanquish are arguably better. The point is, I'm not a fan of the cinematic "walking sim" games of nowadays, and just miss the dumb fun action games of yesteryear.

Wow, I had no idea this was coming out. I'm always telling the gaming channels I'm subbed to to give this game a look. It's criminally underrated. Its humor hasn't aged well but Suda51 still gets a pass from me. I had so much fun playing this game back in the day and when I sold off most of my 360 collection, Shadows of the Damned is one of the games I chose to keep.

This is one of the best Resident Evil 4 Remake critiques I've ever seen Seriously though, I'm genuinely happy with this remaster, Suda hit the nail on the head. $25 for an old game with a few modern comforts, that's perfect. It maintains the original content and keeps the price low so that it's organically competitive with emulation/the used market.

There isn't even a bare minimum of graphics settings (resolution, antialiasing, motion blur) for PC. Man that forced motion blur is so annoying.

Price might be low, but the regional pricing is very high for LATAM, India, Middle East etc. Eg - 68% more expensive in Brazil, 59% more expensive in India, 83% more expensive in Saudi etc. (Source - SteamDB).

@Torso6131Ай бұрын
I get what you mean about the RE4 remake, but I think I enjoyed it a bit more myself. Obviously the original is still better for many reasons, but the animations and heavy leaning on parry mechanics made it feel like a John Wick simulator at times. I've probably dumped a hundred hours into it, which is rare for me these days outside of something like No More Heroes 3 and Baldur's Gate 3. Anyway, excited to pick this up on PC soon. I had heard some concerning things about the console versions not performing particularly well which made me wonder if they ported it over to UE4 or something, but I don't think I heard you say anything about stuttering on the PC version so I'll take the plunge. Even if it did a little, it would probably still run leagues better than my PS3 copy ha.
