Rahu and Ketu are mathematical concepts, used for calculating when eclipses would occur. That is why they are chaya graha, meaning virtual entities not physical. Rahu and Ketu are always on the opposite sides of the sky. When they coincide with sun and moon, eclipses occur. I learned this from my grandmother long back. It was a very intelligent way of predicting eclipses. Such techniques are often used in physics.

Rahu and Ketu were one. An Asura whose head was chopped off by Vishnu when he tried to pretend to be a deva to get a gulp of Amruta. I don’t remember his name though.

There is no Swarga or Naraka, or Hell and Heaven in Hindu religion. These are the concepts of Abrahamic religions infused into Hindu scriptures by faking. British did this at gun point using Brahmins and gave enormous publicity in the form of street plays, dramas, other writings, and movies etc. Garuda Purana is faked such way. To figure out faked verses, one should study the chandas of such verses which differ from the rest of the verses. These fake verses fail to meet the poetic meter as the original verses. Only the Sanskrit scholars can figure that out. The translations will misguide us, like some of the comments here. The core Hindu philosophy drives on Karma and Moksha. Karma advocates reincarnation or repeated births as a measure of suffering depending on past Karma. If there is Hell to punish the sins, there is no need of reincarnation. Muslims, Christians, Buddhists teachings do not refer any reincarnation only Hindu Dharma explains it. Most of the Hindus lack knowledge of Hinduism and get carried away by these fake teachings. One has to learn the religious teaching properly by investing their time, especially Hindu youth.

Well... I chant these daily but there are two more shlokas. Nara naari nripaanam cha bhavet duswapna naashanam, Aishwaryam atulam teshaam arogyam pushtivardhanam. Graha nakshatrajaa peedaha taskaraagni samudbhava, taah sarva prashamam yanti Vyaso brottena samshayaha. Can you please tell about these also? PS- sorry if there are any spelling mistakes

Q: If rahu slok says that ardhkayam meaning (as you explain) then Rahu has body - that imply Ketu have head! This contradict to wider understanding that ketu have kaya (body) and rahu have head (mastisk) - Which one is correct?
