True. Most GM can be happy if the Players manage to keep track of the Plot for a Session - not speaking of a whole Week or more of a Pause wrecking things up. To I guess play devil's advocate, it depends wholly on how RP focused the group is. If she's not there and wasn't told about it then she shouldn't know it, she shouldn't be able to remind people about things later in the campaign that she doesn't know IC. It's one thing to write things down because you like having all the info about the campaign and it's another to then use that info IC. Again it depends on the overall groups commitment to RP, but those who have a problem with it aren't inherently wrong.
@Ginric993 жыл бұрын
@@wuvs2spooge I disagree, every table I have ever played at or DM'd in 30+ years if a player forgets something simply because it happened 2 weeks ago and they have slept since then there is no issues with another player prompting them. What can be hours in game time can be weeks in real time with things happening between sessions so you have to give players a chance to play. Not everyone is great at taking notes, and I can tell you as a DM having 8 people all note taking, all asking me to repeat different information they missed, is a nightmare and just destroys a game. Far far far better to have 1 player who gets it all down and can then remind players, oh your character knows this.
@bammbamm12263 жыл бұрын
@@Ginric99 still think David is right. Those players can always go over things away from the table or before session. However I don’t think they should be able to recall info that their character was not there to obtain it or was told it in RP. I can understand it sucks having multiple people ask you to repeat yourself and stuff but that comes with being a DM.

Yeah it's not just about making them. VM never really searched out particular items to make up for their weaknesses. They'd sort of randomly go to magic shops and look at random stuff offered by the DM. But, for example - Scanlan could have sought out better armor (I believe he only has +1 armor which is partly why his AC is so low) or they could have gotten some freedom of movement items, or items to buffer resistances they don't have. Even just one use potions or scrolls for some of those things... Dark vision goggles for Percy would have been another great specific thing to look for. Go around to different shops, not just one.. commission an item to be made, they have a lot of gold. Pike is still using the same weapon she's had since the streaming part of the campaign started. Mace of Disruptions are pretty good but by level 18+ she probably could have something better.

Man, the visible pain. Looked like he was having a rough go of it the last hour or so... seemed like he had his head down thinking about calling it in the middle of the battle with the cultists there for a minute or two right after he tried to get up and sat right back down. At the very end when he was talking closing the show, the struggle was so evident... as someone who struggles with back pain and sciatica, my back started tensing in empathy and just those last few minutes, I just felt so bad for the guy, even with this being like 2+ yrs ago... makes me wonder how rough he had it getting out to his car that night.

I love how Sam always seems to notice the background sounds and/or music when it coincides with the story. it's happened in previous episodes, when he even asked Matt at one point "how do you DO that?!" as the music changed flawlessly at the right time. at 1:38:44 there's a loud CRACK as Matt's describing the falling statue and you can see him registering it, then it happens again. Frankly Matt's ability to time the soundtrack perfectly is a little terrifying (I'm sure it's a coincidence... but... he may just be magical).
@qerupasy2 жыл бұрын
You can tell it's not magic for some of the more scripted scenes. For instance, for the Tiberius burial in E64, the Emon attack, the Raishan reveal (particularly clear example), or some of the other memorable Chroma Conclave scenes, his narration has a lot of pauses in it. To a certain extent, those are for effect, but he can also stretch and contract them to listen for and synchronize with cues in the soundtrack. I don't think he's grasping for words nearly as much as he pretends to. Edit: Particularly with the Tiberius burial, I get the impression that Sam gets what's happening. His "We'll come back and fix this because this is poppycock." line is also pretty well-timed, though it seems a bit like Taliesin may have given him a signal to not take too long with it. I think he's mostly trying to pick up the cues himself when he notices Matt doing this so he can play along.

It can be from an old injury that never fully heals (muscle/tendon/ligament,), a ruptured/bulging discus in between vertebrae, a broken back, a broken coccyx(tail bone), Broken hip, weak abdominal muscles, excessive sitting, etc. Pretty much any injury on or close to the lower spine. Your nerve centers come from your spine, so if you have sciatica the pain can radiate from your spine all the way down your leg(s), and/or around into your hips and abdomen. I mean, it's very obviously scripted at least in large arcs. It's pretty easy to read sometimes, and there have been a few times when the players slip up and have premonitions or mention things before they exist in the narrative. They probably talk about basic plot elements in order to keep things moving in a generally coherent direction. Also Matt has been railroading them pretty heavily since the Chroma arc.
@MrLordDarlington7 жыл бұрын
The things players know in the narrative, are often delivered to them in whispers through lore checks, such as sam knowing that the catacombs was a titan. And grog knowing the titanstone knuckles, was a backstory thing.

Matt plans the storytelling beats and each session in general terms unless they go way off track, so they have a pretty good idea of where things are headed and can plan... But it isn't scripted in the sense that they know what will happen and how they'll roll. It's like playing a hardcover adventure.

To the people who keep saying "Oml, it really was scripted!!" They have obviously never played D&D before, or have never competed a full campaign before. You can easily get a sense on how many sessions you have left of the campaign, so with Matt, who has everything planned out and knowing his players fairly well, he would have the best guess on how much longer his campaign will continue.
@piranhaplantX2 жыл бұрын
People who say this haven't been paying attention and don't understand that a DM has some control over pacing and full control over content. Not to mention that the group has control over how long an episode runs. So between all of this, it's pretty easy to plot out a rough guess or a max and work towards wrapping things up.

Yh but I do think it’s partly scripted, the amount of times VM members have died & come back to life to continue the campaign is sus, if key characters completely die off it kinda ruins the rest of the campaign & the buildup. For example if there’s a complete TK I highly doubt they’re just gonna throw their hands up and go “whelp thanks for tuning in & donating thousands of dollars, here’s blue balls for an ending!”

@@justadummy8076 realistically any good DM can still take a TPK an turn it into a enticing storyline of redemption and return, be it from heaven being gifted some holy mission to complete back in the realm or being sent to hell an having to fight your way out to redeem yourself so you can have your life back, yeah it'll come off kinda cheap if it's not done right an it's a once off storyline that once used wouldn't make alot of sense if used again, the ways he has allowed them back are ways that haven't been redundant and repetitive so he has done well
