Fun fact: Some of the bosses in this game use modified versions of roars from Godzilla films. The Torizo fight uses a modified version of the Mecha King Ghidorah roar, and the Queen Metroid uses modified versions of Showa Mechagodzilla, Showa King Ghidorah, and Gamera. This could be in reference to how both Phantoon and Crocomire use Titanosaurus' roar in Super Metroid

Plus while Nintendo usually takes into account a game's popularity across the globe, they do tend to put a focus on a game's reception in Japan... The country Metroid has sold the worst in since day one. There are also other problems to take into consideration: for example the over-saturation of Metroidvania games today and that while the fan base is very vocal it is also small; Nintendo is fully-aware Metroid is a niche series and are treating it as such.

This game was SO GOOD. A definite improvement and remaster of Metroid 2, and I had so much fun playing it! Also, watching you defeat all the bosses with no damage, it reminds me I kept forgetting I had the morph ball and the ability to stick to walls during boss fights. I kept trying to jump over the zeta like an idiot. Doh!

They released a 3ds game know as Metroid Samus Returns to be the OFFICIAL remake; yes, I played through this, too. The 3ds one uses purple acidic goop to block your path further into SR-388 until you bring the requisite number of Metroid souls to some Chozo altar

@@nintenboss64 mario royale it was an online game tho, its hard to bring it back, AM2R however torrents are everywhere, since its release there have been multiple patches and mods released by other ppl and its not hard to find it, its there and it will always be nintendo cant take it down, I even have a copy of the first launch release sitting on my HDD and if someone who doesnt know much about torrents and wanted to play the game I would easily share google drive links with that copy, AM2R is here to stay no matter if nintendo likes it or not, heck people managed to even port it to apks now you can play it even on mobile devices anyway, if someone is a citizen and sides with a corporation then, shame on that filthy person cuz they have to be the biggest of cucks.

This is a great fan project. The bosses are fun and definitely in the Metroid style. The music may be decent at Best, but it still fits the franchise well. The pre-used bosses are great (along with their themes), and they are fun as always. Controls are fantastic, and in the end, this is a huge amount of fun throughout. Returning here after completing 3DS Samus Returns to make my comparisons. I think Samus Returns did the Metroid bosses in a more interesting and cinematic way, but I love AM2R's boss diversity so much more. Gotta respect what passionate fans can pull off. Well, I think we've already covered how disgusting and stupid this DMCA was; clearly Nintendo has never heard of the Streisand Effect. See, if I were Nintendo, I would have hired these guys AND found a way to sell this game. The most devious plan: make AM2R into DLC or Amiibo unlockable for 3DS Samus Returns, thus promoting sales for both games! As slimy as it would be to gate this behind the 3DS title, I think most fans would still prefer that over no legal way to get the game (and still less slimy than gating an entire difficulty mode for Samus Returns behind an Amiibo, but lets not get started on that).

But it is understandable that someone wouldn't notice. Heck, the only reason I noticed in the Prime games was because I was charging up a shot for another enemy and if you don't do that so much in this game I wouldn't notice.

I didn't notice the detail the rescue team was given when the Omega Metroid was introduced. The red and blue troops have automatic guns in reference to their arsenal Prime 2. The big one in green has a plasma pack similar to the one Anthony uses in Other M. As for the yellow troopers pistol...no idea, best guess is the emergency pistol from Zero Mission.

Pretty sure Nintendont had their own version in the works for a bit before they shut it down but this game was being made for like twice as long. It took him like 8 years to make this game, most game studios can make a game start to finish in 3 to 6 years top end on average. Unless you're Metroid Prime 4, then you get to be "special"

I always found it interesting that the Varia Suit and the Metroids have shared the same color schemes. It especially comes full circle in Metroid Fusion once Samus absorbs an SA-X and now has both Metroid DNA from the Baby Metroid, and a Metroid-ish appearance with the three-spiked Visor that alludes to the species's three red nuclei. I mean, what can I say, Metroid is a pretty cool guy! eh kills space piretes and doesn't afraid of anything.

Spoilers for Dread. A cool detail I've noticed is that in this game and in Samus Returns, none of the Metroids attack you like you're their prey; wouldn't they just try to siphon your energy instead of slashing, ramming, and blasting you? We learn from Dread that Samus has the DNA of the Mawkin Chozo, who are the predator to the Metroids. None of the Metroids attack you out of hunger. They attack you out of fear.

I recall that once I suggested the creator to add Ridley as surprise boss and he said it would be a bad idea, but it was ironic that Nintendo added him anyway and without being a mere robotic duplicate. I personally think that some bosses got kinda out of place, including that fully mechanical Torizo and it's flying form in AMR2. The ending could had been better, but guess there was not enough time to think about it.

@@Monody512 well, for all we now she thought he was dead and couldn't have told the other space pirates. AtroNx is right, it does show how the X got his body. The corpse is probably another Ridley-X that died, unless I'm mistaken. What I do know is that it shows how he went from Meta/Omega Ridley to Super Metroid Ridley, since his mechanical parts were falling off during the fight. Also the fact that they'd show Ridley's mechanical hand in the end scene probably means that that's how they're saying the X got his DNA

That Serris thing was really cool :O But still, even though I could feel the Queen fight, it lacked one, important domponent. The stress of being able to run out of missiles. Playing the game on hard makes it way more tense mainly because of that

I really liked these boss fights! Except that the Zetas should have had a fire ball attack as it's more fitting with the tower area, and the Omegas and Genesis should have been buffed up because they were too easy!

A couple weeks ago when I bought Return of Samus on the 3DS Virtual Console, I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. Soon after, I wished that there would be a remake of it. Then, without hearing any news about it, this was made. Immediately after hearing this, which was today, I wanted to download and play it. That is, until I found out about the bad news. Which made me lose all hope. Seriously, WHY did Nintendo copyright claim this awesome looking masterpiece of a remake? I know that they were the ones that made the series and characters and music and etc, but do they even know what "fan made" even means? They are your FANS that LOVE the games that YOU made for all to enjoy. Couldn't you just admire the amount of hard work and effort they put into making this? In GBM2, the Alpha Metroid emerges by gradually shedding its skin from an individual that is clearly an original Metroid, but in AM2R, the Alpha Metroid suddenly appears from the browned corpse of a Metroid, giving it an impression more similar to the chestburster in Alien.

I love this man just casually breaking progression with the Torizo fight. I've played this gem of a game through multiple times and know that you CANNOT get up there without murdering mister bird man. Great job though, never really thought of using morph ball as a dodge, and not just a transportation.
