The Shaka is a cute nice rc wing for slope soaring, it has a very simple but beautiful design, it's easy to build but not so much to fly if you're a beginner, it takes a bit of trimming since it's very sensitive.

Great build and flying. Like your colour choice, simple on top, but nice brilliant colour from below.

Great vid thanks, interesting to see the obvious improvement after your many radio tunings ! I just ordered one, will heed your point on beginners and build some more air time first

Cool plane, similar to my Alula. The benefit of the Alula is it's durability and portability and flies in anything light or heavy, thermal etc. I do love the balsa tho. Unfortunately we don't have too many grassy places to slope soar in California mostly sticky brush rocky dirt etc so foam is good.

Although it is a very cool balsa wing to have, it is pita to fly this kind on type glider. I have very beautiful Eyecatcher II from wing-tips, similar design. And every time i go flying with this, i will ditch it couple of times because of wrong CoG that need to be extremely precise. Luckily it`s like a tank and handles horrible crashes. Ask me how i know this. But yeah, pita to get it in the flight but once it`s in the air, you might even enjoy it. Btw good video!

Hi, so what's the aerodynamic benefit of a forward swept wing/plank plane? My experience is the getting the cog right is a pita and I usually give up and change the wing shape to swept back.
@keenheat3335
@keenheat3335 2 жыл бұрын
using the explanation from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grumman_X-29, another forward swept design. The cross span down wash is point toward center of the airplane instead of the wing tips, so in the event of a stall, you lose lift from the center of the plane first instead of the wing tip (where most of the control surface is located). So hypothetically it suppose to has a better stall recovery compare to backward swap wing (where the wing tip get stall first). Since the aileron control surface is the last part that get stalled. At least in theory anyway, I think it practice, forward swept wing have pitch stability issue.

@@keenheat3335 Thanks for the answer Keen! You are right in an event of stalling, it recovers super fast as it starts in the root, instead of tips. The other benefit of the swept forward design is the lower wind conditions it can perform in. Considering that Shaka has a relatively thin foil, the speed is also not an issue. So in the end, you get a great all-arounder

Very nice build and even though it took some trimming out to dial in it flew very well, good job! I am making my own version of this plane which I know will be a handful, but I'm curious where the CG on yours is? How far back from the leading edge? Thank you! I always enjoy watching what you build to fly! 🙏🏼🙌🏼

Very cool looking glider. Seems very pitchy reactive, though. I can envision bird-like features to make it look like a raven or hawk.

Considering that the elevons/ailerons are full length of the wing, that is a LOT of surface area, and I would expect even minimal action would result in a lot of reaction. Nice wing.

Where did you find a 5V block converter of that type? I’ve been looking for one for a while, but don’t know what to look for.

is there enough space for IDS pushrods?
@geneschastnyy3981
@geneschastnyy3981 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say no, as the secondary spar, the short one that runs till the 5th rib, will disrupt the straight line from the servo till the aileron. However, if you'll decide to push the IDS shaft diagonally, through the 5th rib, and in he space between the 5th and 6th rib, that may work. Another thing to keep in mind is a trailing edge. It's only 3mm thik. If you think that would be enough for IDS,, I'd be happy to follow your attempt! Feel free to share some pics on the RCGroups thread)

It's pointless setting these up twitchy in pitch. You lose performance. My guess is a CG @ 40 - 45mm. Where did yours end up?

The CG on this model is around 25m from the LE in the root. anything further than 30 will make it unstable

Alula Trek is excellent. And easely side wing launched. 2 minutes to set up or take down. I didn't get trimming difficulties, just respect CG & ailerons moves. There is easiest gliders, Alula accelerate quite fast, but it is solid, very forgiving.

270 грамм для такого размера... кирпич какой то. У меня классический моторный планер с крылом 1.5 метра имеет вес 240-250 грамм, так у него один мотор с регулятором весит 25 грамм.
