The maxim gun wasn't used in the Anglo-Zulu war though, the war was fought 1879 while the maxim gun was invented in 1884.

Correction: Shaka did not escape Zwide's attack. It was Mzilikazi who escaped Zwide's attack after Zwide had successfully beheaded uGodongwana (Dingiswayo). That's when Mzilikazi went to Shaka and told him about the death of Dingiswayo and together, they avenged it.
