Dennis, I’m watching this again because of those PUM conversion kits I got. As you know I converted one of my 2090 Sea Wonder reels to PUM. I wrote you all about it. I wanted to see the bottom of the rotor if I could on this video but you never showed it. I’ll take one of mine apart I guess. - Chris

Just an FYI, in my experience with the 3 Shakespeare royal maroon reels I have the screws are actually chrome plated brass.

Yes - they will allow you to cast much better than the short stick

Thanks Dennis, Interesting oscillation mechanism Plenty of years left in that reel

Yes, these spiral drives are incredible. Penn used the same set up in the 700 series. Great design and lasting to - Fish on!

Hi Dennis . Definitely A Different Reel. It Has Some Interesting Pieces Inside. I Have A Wedge Screwdriver 🪛 Myself. They Are Handy. I Also Have A Screw Holder Version With A Sliding Clip for Slotted Screws. Both Work Fine.

Yes and yes. They are unique reels and I do enjoy the wedge driver! Thanks

If you fish from surf or pier, or deep drop fishing, they are hard to beat. You can find them on eBay for a reasonable price - Dennis

I just received one of these like new old stock for free from someone cleaning out the garage. Also have a vintage wooden tackle box... Thanks for the video.

Great reels I have quite a few !! I can't believe you don't have a towel on top of that piece of wood to keep from scratching the reel !

I can't say enough about them. Big fingers and small screws are a recipe for misfortune!

Dennis, you know how much I love these reels. I have two of these and when I got them they were grease choked too. The only SeaWonders I don’t have are the 2070 and 2871. They are the smallest of ghe Shakespeare Sea Wonders. The gray 2080 and 2090 are notorious in how difficult it often is to be able to remove the pinion gear and bearing from those earlier models. They were often prone to some rust in that are. This particular 2091 is a beauty. Those two nuts on the pinion can be a pain. Your infuriating luck removing pinion/bears from vintage reels continues. LOL. Penn 700 or 704 bearings work perfectly in these reels. (I think) these reels did not originally have sealed bearings. This reel was way cleaner than mine were when I got them. My favorite reel from this series is the 2081. It is a little smaller and lighter than the 2091. These Sea Wonder reels sere such outstanding reels for the time and even for today. I still use mine frequently. Great video Dennis! - Chris

I knew you would like this one! And I chuckle when I get a bearing to pop right out in anticipation of your comments
@christopherjenkins23739 ай бұрын
@@2ndChanceTackleDennis, I just got another 2081 that is almost mint in the origins box with paperwork and extras. I hope the bearing will come out as easy as this one did but I’m not as lucky as you. I’m going to put a sealed bearing in it when I service it. I love fishing with these Sea Wonder reels. This reel I just got had a code of EC which if I’m doing this right means it was made in 1968. It’s a shame the spool had so much corrosion. I’ll send you some photos when I finish my reel. - Chris

A nice simple design. I've been looking around to find one of those to try out striper fishing. They look like they're built like tanks that's for sure.
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
Yes they are and they will land a lot of Strippers. You can still find these on eBay for around $50 too

Tank of a reel. Shakespeare use to make nice things.

Very true! Once they were sold and were no longer a family business, they just became a me too brand that eventually had production moved offshore to capitalize on cheap labor.

I have the 2090, it looks identical only not in the maroon color, some day one of my great grand kid can go fishing with it, because with proper maintenance it will survive another few generations
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
Curious if the 2090 has the opposite side drive??

At the end, could you give the spool a twist to verify the drag is smooth, and adjusts correctly? Bob Ross would do that. ;-)

Hello Dennis, by chance do you have videos on the Swiss made Staro - Glaser reels?
@2ndChanceTackle8 ай бұрын
I do not. Thanks for the request. I will see if I can find one around. This may have been made by the same folks that made the Thommen and the Record reels, but I may have one in a bin. If I do, I will be happy to do a video on it.

Question, if the drag washers were worn out, could you replace them with a carbon drag washer or do you need to replace with an original one?
@armandoreyes1891 Жыл бұрын
You can use newer washers. The Penn Long beach washers part # 6-60 fit right.
