My UL4 is 40 years old and has never been serviced, though, it hasn’t had a lot of use. Your video has been very helpful. When I opened mine it did not have the thin Teflon bearing. I know it has never been opened before. Also on mine, the screw holding the drag wheel had a left hand thread. That took me a minute to figure out. Just as a side note, this came as a combo with a neat little collapsible rod that matched the real, back in the day. I still have the rod. Thank you! This was just the video I needed. Correction - the Teflon washer magically appeared in the soapy water 😊

Thanks for keeping these closed faced reels going. Such a pleasure to use and I use them for most of my ultralight fishing. I dont have older models like this but I do have the last 2 generations of the 33 Micro triggerspins. Also have some Lews triggerspins. My absolute favorite is the Pflueger President Triggerspin. Like a modern upgraded version of the 33. Love to see a super tune of that reel.

Another great, informative video. I'd like to add that a common problem with this reel is the drag will stick. I've had several that would not allow you to strip line out even at the lowest setting. After troubleshooting I found that the grey shaft that the spool goes onto can swell up so that the spool will bind. The solution I've found is to sand the grey shaft with fine sandpaper until the spool will rotate without binding. I don't know what caused the grey shaft to swell up. Maybe the wrong grease or degreaser was used by a previous owner or maybe it's just an issue with that material.

I think it is generally the oil you may use. I have had to do the same thing in a few reels.

I found one of these at goodwill with a rod for $2. I only bought it for the 6' rod that it was attached to, but I was curious how it fished. I ended up spooling new line on it and it works quite well. The only drawback is heavier lures don't tend to hold well if I whip the cast. The line will start to slip out of the reel before I want to release it. But knowing that I adjust my throw when using it. And I'm probably overburdening it fishing for 5 pound bass LOL. I still use it from time to time. The only thing I don't like is the drag is silent when fish are pulling line. At 19:00 you address that aspect. I might take a look and see whats up with mine. UPDATE: I took the cover off and the top half and found the tip of the drag clicker spring was bent down. I bent it back up and now I have a clicker drag alert! Thanks!

Thanks for watching and commenting. What a bargain. It is a great little reel and is perfect for small pan fish. Specially Crappie, white bass, perch, bluegill and the like. Even trout fishing. It isn't meant for large lures, that are in the 1/2 ounce or bigger range. I'd say 3/8 at the max. Enjoy it.

There a nother one that's a Zebco micro 11TS micero is black that came on the combo round got 3 of them. The one you have was my dad's favorite just before he passed away. But i still have his stuff from the 60's to 2002 pole's, reel's and trout fishing stuff even stuff from my grandfather. Cool 😎 stuff. On this reels the line pin stop's going all the way out after years of using it. I don't like is plastic lin pin for what for. The plastic craz came in the 2000 the all aluminum reel's or the stamped stainless steel kind.

Grease will not impact your casting distance. If you have too much on the moving parts, it may make reeling in a little stiff.

You can find a SHIMANO Solora 2 Piece Spinning Rod on Amazon for ultra light spin cast reels. That would make a good combo.
