Shakespeare Sigma 040 spin fishing reel how to take apart and service

Interesting reel. I have not been that interested in the Alphs and Sigma reels. I have collected the gold 2700 series and the blue 2400 series Shakespeare reels. They were made by Ohmori and are very fine reels. The one Alpha 070 I purchased had a smashed up oscillation gear inside which made it useless. I was glad to see the inside of a Sigma as I had not seen one before. - Chris

I have few of these reels. They are really a great value reel that can be had for a few dollars. Can you change the title of the vid to Sigma 2200 040 from Alpha 040?

This is perfect! I have a couple Sigma 030 reels which were my late father's. They have been out of service for years; I'm going to go through them and use them for ice fishing and panfish in fair weather. Great video as always, these make me feel as if I know what I'm doing. :0 QUESTION; What grease do you use on your reel services?

Thanks - I use Penn Precision reel greases and oils. They are available online in a combo package and are relatively inexpensive.

Dennis, Thanks for all your videos knowledge and attention to detail. I have a couple of old Roddy overhead reels which belonged to my late father. Have you worked on many ? What is the story of that reel company? Are they ok reels ?

Wow - that is a short question with a long answer! Roddy was a fishing rod company founded at the time that fiberglass rods were just being introduced in the 1950s. The name Roddy came from the nickname of the company's founder Harvey “Roddy” Rodstein. The company was and still is located in California. At the peak, Roddy was one of the premier rod manufacturers and supplied many companies with their Rods and blanks including Sears. Roddy saw an opportunity to expand their brand with the addition of fishing reels. The had agreements with Japanese manufacturers to provide parts for assembly in the US as well as finished fishing reels branded as Roddy. These are well made reels and great examples of the 1970s reel design and manufacture. Roddy eventually merged with Master Fishing Tackle company and in the early 2000s they purchased Penn Fishing, yup, that Penn Fishing. A few years later, they sold penn fishing to K2 (the ski manufacturer) and K2 was acquired by Jardin which added Penn to its' Pure Fishing division. Roddy has remained in business with a focus on fishing rods. It still sells reels today in addition to their rods. I hope this helps. I wish you would see how much it cost to fix or service the reels you’re working on what it what is the price going to be? I mean you don’t have to be firm is it $100 is it $50 is a 25 is it 600 what what is it?
