Valdez was so overwhelmed he forgot to use his jab and head movement. Maybe Canelo told him to use that cover-up defensive style and close the gap, but he soon realize that you can't box something you can't see. Shakur was too elusive for him, measuring him all through out the fight peppering him with the jab and countering him at will.

That works to close distance with a bigger puncher, but Shakur does not have 1 punch power, there is no way he would allow a big puncher like Valdez to get that close to him… Best to keep him away with the jab.. if Shakur was a bigger puncher he would allow the peek a boo defense from Valdez because he can set up counters to the body.

And both fighters made NO adjustments through out their fights, just straight forward getting tagged all night long. Nail in the ⚰ is Canelo having a 3rd GGG fight already set after the Bivol fight, and choosing to take that instead of moving down to 168 and have his rematch, so Bivol can take the rest of his belts cause Cantnelo ain't ever beating him on his best day.

Watching this fight again, I still can't get over how big Shakur is! How in the world did he make weight (130) the day before and put on what must be at least 15 pounds by fight time? That's pretty amazing in itself. Absolutely crazy what boxers can (and must) put themselves through to deal with weight limits plus finding the optimal fight-night weight...taking off and putting on as much as 10 pounds in 24 hours! Such a tough and brutal sport in every way. I may be (like many others) critical of this or that boxer from time to time, but I have nothing but respect for anybody willing to do what it takes to climb through those ropes and risk public humiliation, serious injury, or even death...no matter what kind of record they have.

He's either gonna do a three or two punch combo while changing levels (Shakur). He can be fooled into believing you are befuddled by his combos and he can be countered. Realize that fighters have a tendency to fall into rhythms unconsciously. The one person I can see knocking Shakur out is Gervonta... He is the rhythm reader and is an intuitive counter puncher. This would be a GREAT fight.

Yo! I've never heard a referee say stop holding your glove out there on the person's forehead. With all these reps having different rules, how they do breaks, how differently they do their overall job in the ring it's too damn varying. There needs to be a standard for all these high-profile referees who as much as they say they DON'T want to be involved in the fight, they do their best to screw up the rhythm of good fights. Especially Kenny Bayless with that non rule of you can't hold your hand out there. If a fighter doesn't like somebody sizing you up which is a part of fighting knock their hand down. But the rest can't tell you don't hold it out there making up his own rule.

Im pretty sure measuring your opponent has always been against the rules in all boxing fights. You're not allowed to just hold your arm out there and stiff arm someone. Sure fighters do it all the time and some refs let it go but it's SUPPOSED to be against the rules.
