Shallow Water Smallmouth Fishing with a soft plastic Jerkbaits (FLUKE)

Soft Plastic Jerkbaits like The Zoom Super Fluke has always been a top smallmouth bass producer. In todays video I tie one on and head shallow to try and find some big smallmouth bass hanging out in the shallow water areas of the Great Lakes. I will explain how I work a fluke and some of the tips I use when I am fishing these in shallow water.

Who is SmallmouthCrush?
Travis Manson was born and raised in Wisconsin. He started fishing from the bank at a young age and spent most of his childhood with a rod in his hand. I've been watching every friggan bass youtube channel on fishing flukes and have never seen anyone use an Owner weighted twistlock hook. I've been using those twistlock hooks with flukes for years on smallies, it's NO WONDER I love your channel Travis.

I love the Zoom Super Fluke (white). Over the years, I have had much better luck catching Largemouth and Pickerel with it. I usually throw it weightless as well.

Favorite soft plastic has to be a Texas rigged senkos or paddle tail swimbaits. my new favorite finest bait though has to be a spybait. Caught a monster last weekend in a duo g fix spybait. I'm hooked.

If you've never tried it put a 4.5" tube rigged on one of those hooks. Fished the same way it gives a different look and they crush it

If you use the Double Fluke Rig.. have you ever experienced any of the knots breaking on your fish??? for some reason this summer ive had the issue. What kind of knots do you tie and kind of line ??

smallmouth addiction I haven’t experienced any of my knots breaking on fish. I’ve been experimenting with line over the last few years. I’ve been loyal to Berkley 100% or Gamma for years but they have larger diameters per lb test than most other fluorocarbons..lately, I’ve been using Sunline Sniper..For braid in my opinion, Sunline Xplasma or SX1 is the best..super strong, casts awesome and doesn’t discolor..For the double Fluke Rig I’m using no braid and using Sunline Sniper 10lb fluorocarbon which is the same diameter as Berkley 8lb with a Double San Diego Jam knot or a Palomar knot. If you put a clear bobber stopper peg below the sliding swivel ahead of the second swivel knot, it protects the knot and gives it a little cushion..

Hey Travis, do you roam flats with your trolling motor to find fish up shallow, or do you plant yourself in the center of the flat and look for cruising fish? It looked like your boat was pretty locked down on the spot you were fishing, and wondered if that was just for the clip or because you had found a spot with fish roaming around you?? Thanks, Nick
