For my 1st outing of the 2020 river season, I opt to travel light, avoid the masses and go for a short afternoon session on my local River Foss at Strensall just outside York. The stretch of river is controlled by YDAA and is probably no more than 2 rods wide here. The river is also very shallow with little flow in summer conditions and therefore in order to fish the shallow water I opt to use a Dave Harrell 2xNo.4 shallow water stick float fishing with maggots and bread punch.
After a reconnaissance trip the evening before, I'd spotted some decent chub and plenty of dace so I tooled up with 5lb Drennan Floatfish line and a 0.15 Preston Power Reflo bottom and size 18 Drennan Wide Gape Match hook in the hope of taking one of the bigger residents out of a swim, would I succeed? Watch on to find out....
