Its the time of year to clean out the shallow well. I rebuilt the well pump in the process. Started stacking boulders for the second retaining wall

It might be handy to have a set of stairs made from railroad ties that goes up each of the grades straight out from the back door if the garden needs to be accessed easily. You could remove some rocks at those sections and repurpose them.

Being a true plumber and Tradesmen the down in your voice says you probably are not going to be exorbitantly happy with the tankless hot water heater I have a piece of property a little bit down south that has an old shallow brickwell in it mine has a fairly easy Miller's water pump that was probably new in the late eighties it was really easy to rebuild but now I'm finding very hard to buy the parts so if your parts are readily available I would buy 10 or 12 of them just to keep around but I do enjoy your videos I was disabled by a work accident about 6 years ago and I am unable to go out and do everything I used to hunt fish camp work on my property this is what I remember my grandfather explaining when he had a heat stroke in his late 60s and he had to give up cutting the yard you said every time the guy came over to cut the yard and smell about made him cry you don't know until you know but I do enjoy the channel keep up the great work I love watching the interaction between you and your kids but especially seeing the interest that your boy is taking in this generation that's rare

haha Bandit, right into the mud puddle. We all here wondered how you would get that tool back if you dropped it in the well. And we decided you need to invest in a fishing magnet. :) This is for Cedar. Look up the benefits of Milk thistle (Silybum marianum). That purple flower Heath showed in this video @ 18:19. You have a great variety of wild plants that are medicinal where you live.

Next spring I would sow many plants such as creeping thyme etc. in seed trays. I would then (after the soil in the terraces has settled over the winter,) fill all the gaps between the stones and rocks with compost and plant the seedlings, keeping them well-watered for the first year. This will add to soil retention AND provide a beautiful vista from the house and "driveway".

I'm hoping you're going to throw some winter Rye on that slope. I have a couple of those tankless water heaters that are gas-fired. They work but there's some things you need to be aware of. There's a bi-metal thermostat switch towards the top of the unit. It takes some time to cool back down before you can get any more hot water once it's reached Max. So the trick is to tune your unit so it's not running at Max.

"David the good" has a video on how simple it is to start a food forest. You start with a fruit tree then under that tree you plant things like currant or black berries, maybe blue berries. Then in May you cam plant squash, watermelon, cantaloupe etc under there. Anything you like, if it grows in your area slap it in the ground around that tree. Then plant another fruit Tree 10 or 20 ft away and do the same thing with different berry bushes and other small fruit bushes as many times as you have land for. Soon they will branch out and join each other and start the food forest. Best time to plant a fruit tree is 5 years ago. Great job on the hillside.

Thanks for the video Heath ! As someone who used to clean & service shallow, hand dug wells in an area that still has many of them, you did a good job. I was especially pleased to see that you shock chlorinated the well when you were finished. I could give you a few minor tips on making the well easier to service and keeping bugs, critters and muck from getting inside but honestly you are doing pretty darn good. As it happens, I drive close to Preston, ID on my way between Northern California and the Northwoods of Minnesota a few times a year. Maybe I could stop by sometime and see if you have anything I might be able to lend a hand with. Take care !

It looks like an interesting pump there, I had a 310 foot deep augured well and buy a place that used to have. I had alleged pump guys out and they replaced six pumps. So I got a little sick of that, and I did a lot of research. And then my buddy and I put in a cheap pump that I bought at tractor supply. I also increase the size of the wire, and build the PVC shroud to surround the pump body. I had that pump for over 20 years. None of the others had lasted three, rug size wire, and two big of a diameter housing without a PVC shroud to go around the pump and help with cooling. I think your set up will do just fine for that new bathroom. The retaining wall is looking good.😊

As a regular follower from Pakistan, I am writing to express my concern about installing an instant water geyser in a bathroom. While it may seem convenient, I strongly believe it poses a significant risk to safety. In a locked bathroom, the geyser's operation can lead to oxygen depletion, and the surrounding steam can create a hazardous environment. I fear that this combination can be fatal. I kindly request that you reconsider this decision and explore alternative options that prioritize safety. Thank you for your attention

setup your laser with the receiver on your machine with graduated slots and then you can grade w/o getting out of the machine? may be a nice trick to use...it all looks good, gravel is a good idea and then spread and rake some compost in (your dirt is already pretty good) and plant some mixture of grass and do planters plus some raised beds and maybe a patio/pergola/firepit or grill? I think you should get some bigger flat rocks and make steps but also put in drainage pipes and gravel at back of each terrace - this will probably solve all flooding issues plus it will look nice and you will have much more room . look forward to you putting gravel on the road and starting to do some prelim site work on the back 40 - i think you have time, if you do decide to build out back building in nov/dec is not all that bad, manageable

Hi Heath, It might just be due to the camera angle, but it looked as if the hot water heater exhaust was sloped towards the heater rather than the outside. Should it be the case, then you run a high risk of condensation in the exhaust pipe during winter finding its way towards the actual combustion chamber rather than existing outside the outer wall’s end. That would severely reduce the life expectancy of your tankless water heater. I hope it was indeed just a camera angle of shooting issue. Love all you and your family have accomplished this far. Been here almost since day one, learned a lot along the way and I love the good life’s lessons you distill along the way. Sending love and prayers for you all to stay safe and healthy and happy. Cheers from old Europe, Pierre

Hi Heath long time follower from Happy Jack AZ. I have an off grid home at 7400 ft and also recently installed a cheep $240.00 no name on demand hot water heater. I was surprised at how well it works we’ve been using it almost a full year without a glitch. I installed a 2 phase filter system on it only because the minerals in our 750’ 6” cased well are almost high enough to mine. The wall is looking pretty good something I was always wondering is do you see any mountain lions or bear activity I was concerned about predators and your supply of dear meat. Speaking of meat when can we expect your first head of cattle (personal use only of course) good day god bless
