I first saw Unorthodox and fell in love with the Israeli actors. I learned so much about Hassidic life. It was so authentic I thought every one was actually Jews from Williamsburg. After this first addiction I watched Shtisel and fell in love with all the actors. I loved reading all the subtitles and even learned some Hebrew and Yiddish! I am inspired to watch whatever series that is coming soon. Michael Aloni is so sexy too. ( Even with his Orthodox attire and hair.) I am glad that he did not give up his painting. And I Love Shira Haas. She is amazing as are all of the cast!! Excuse me for going on so much but I don't have anyone here ( in NY) with whom I can share this experience. Shalom!!

I'm right now halfway through season 2. Never ever would I've guessed that the scenes inside/outside were shot three months apart. The switch of scenery felt totally natural and there wasn't a hair out of place. Kudos to everyone involved, it's a wonderful show, beautifully written, shot, acted and whoever took care of the actors looks did an amazing job, especially given the time that passed between shots. Can't wait to see season 3!

Same here. I had never even heard of Shira Haas until I saw her in "Unorthodox." I was completely blown away by her performance. When it was over, I wasn't ready for it to end so I immediately found "Shtisel." As an actress, she is truly remarkable, a force of nature! I loved her in Shtisel as well, maybe even moreso because she was so much younger and her monumental talent was even more obvious in someone so young. As for Michael Aloni, his performance was just dreamy but so authentic. I think I fell in love with "Akiva" a little bit lol. Those EYES.

Between Orthodox couples, there is no kissing or touching at home, and especially never in public. Nevertheless, couples show their children that they love each other by the way they respect and speak to each other. Much better than seeing parents smooching! By and large, Jewish children are treated with great love, affection and devotion and are encouraged to learn and be successful...and having a 'portable profession' (like doctor, lawyer, goldsmith) is a good idea, in case we need to leave quickly to pogroms or other such acts by lunatic anti-Semities.

Too bad, folks expect kissing and sexual content on TV where there is Far Too much gratuitous sex! Notice the beautiful way Orthodox families navigate life and keep kissing and other affection 100% private and between closed doors. In fact, there is zero touching between male and female prior to marriage. Unrelated men and women should not be alone together and that's the reason doors are left ajar. I don't have a Jewish background, and in fact, I am from a country that does not have a diplomatic relations with Israel (and to be honest, the people in my country is so unlike those in the Middle East, and there is no chance for the government to initiate a diplomatic relations with Israel). However, for some strange reason, this show (Shtisel) appeals to me, and I have watched all series (1&2). I always think at the end of the episode. So thought provoking. I think conservative family (whether, it's Jewish, or any other), at the end of the day, they are the same (in term of mindset). It is very interesting to see the dynamic between parents and children in this programme (i.e. the relationship between Shulem the father and Akive the son - it reminds me of my own family, and we are not even Jews). I've been hooked on Israeli dramas after this. Fauda is another great one (so realistic). I probably will never visit Israel in my lifetime (as it will be too complicated), however, I admire all these series and talented actors - and best wishes to Israel.

I loved Shira Haas in Unorthodox and had to watch her again in Shtisel. Then I discovered all the other amazing actors and actresses. What a powerful and engrossing story. I can't wait for Season 3. This serie was so emotional, that some tears come to my eyes, when Akiva has a vision with the little boy who holds a plastic bag with a red fish inside it, and Akiva paints him in a remarkable portrait. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏♥️🌷🌸 I spend some summer time in Jerusalem, on July 2008, and this city and the land have so much energy.
