In this video we're checking out Sham 69. We have no idea what this band is about, so this should be fun. Enjoy!

Nice to see the Hersham Boys getting an airing - many, many line up changes & splits & two different versions of the band touring later you can still see them live & pretend that you're eighteen again. Nice to see a reaction channel that isn't afraid to go where others don't. Keep up the good work. Love & Kisses from the UK.

Wow! Of all the songs in all the world, you transport me back to my teens with the dulcet tones of Jimmy Pursey (Singer). A well loved band for their exuberance and sheer fun, although never taken seriously musically they were a transition from skinheads to punk (Teen cultures of the day). Hersham boys, laced up boots and corduroys. I love your valiant approach to music vlogging.

Remember when this came out it was all over the school playground for a couple of weeks and the two kids who were unfortunately called Harry had a terrible time especially during the P.E lessons with the "hurry up Harry" shouts.

Sham 69 were INCREDIBLY popular in England but only had a small-but-loyal cult following Stateside. Their 1978 debut "Tell Us the Truth" is released in the US on the punk-friendly Sire Records (home of the Ramones & the Dead Boys) but it was NOT successful. It was too "British" for Yanks to understand (especially since Side 1 was recorded live in front of a cockney audience). Their influence lasted into the first half of the 80s. Sham are now considered the first Street Punk- or "Oi!" band. Their protege include the Cockney Rejects, Angelic Upstarts (RIP Mensi) and Infa Riot...

Ha ha. I grew up in South London in the 1970s and I can clearly remember all the punks bouncing and jumping around, pushing and shoving and shouting and throwing lager over each other. Happy, happy days. Old Ford Cortinas, Escorts and Capris. Adventure playgrounds made out of telegraph poles and railway sleepers, hand painted in bright colours with rope swings made of old car tyres. The punks I knew never had mohawks or big, spiky hair. They didn't have the money to get the ridiculous hair. They still looked amazing though. The music was absolutely fantastic. Such originality. The idea that anyone can pick up an electric guitar and start a band. It didn't matter if you couldn't play or sing. Anyone from the Crystal Palace area remember Shenna the punk? There was a pub on almost every street corner and to me, it was the most brilliant time to be alive. I know that they say that the 1960s was amazing but I wasn't around then. I will always have great memories of an amazing decade. So many more Punk bands to look at. The Buzzcocks, The Rezillos, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Clash, The Damned, The Stranglers, The Members, The Only Ones. The list goes on and on. Enjoy.!

Ps one of seven bands who played at my 40th birthday at the king's arms it took me more organization than I've ever done and will never try it again but was well worth it. Headlining was STICKY FILTH from Taranaki new zealand ROOFDOG Auckland BAD TOWN Auckland CITY NEWTON BOMBER'S Auckland BLACKLICK Wellington The BLUDGGERS Hamilton MISTAKING IDENTITY Hamilton not one band even asked for gas money? But they all got heap's of food and drinks before the gig started that evening in March 2010 and the place was packed with a lot of people from the past and by assembling the right combo of band's you can lure some old stinky punkrockers out of their cave's just don't talk about soap or water in the same sentence 😜

We're Canadian, but same thing. The Canadian music scene is partially controlled by the American one, as we are so close. So, the fickle nature of the American music scene affects us. But thanks to being a Commonwealth nation, we still have more access to British, and other Commonwealth countries.

With some respect, you have no idea what Sham 69 meant for a boy in the 70s. They spoke to us in a way that no other band did at the time. Hard to explain, but they were are release valve to many of that time.
