SHAMBHALA is the first Nepalese film ever entered in the Competition Section at one of the world’s top film festivals. Notably, SHAMBHALA is the first South Asian film to be selected in Berlinale’s Main Competition after three decades, adding to its groundbreaking legacy.
This film is shot in Upper Dolpo, Nepal (4200 - 6000 Meters Altitude) World's Highest Human Settlement and it's a co-production of Nepal, France, Norway, Hong Kong, Turkey, Taiwan, USA, and Qatar.
LOGLINE: In a Himalayan polyandrous village in Nepal, pregnant Pema faces scrutiny as her first
husband; Tashi vanishes on the trade to Lhasa. Accompanied by her de facto husband, monk,
Karma, she embarks on a journey to find him, evolving her quest into self-discovery and liberation.

Whoever the actors are and whatever their ethnicity is , remember this isn't a Tibetan movie , the director himself is Nepali and even though actors may have been born somewhere else they majory grew up in Nepal . Nepal is densely composed of Tibetan Nepalese and that doesn't make them Tibetans instead of Nepali .🙄 It is true that it reflects Tibetan ethnicity but that doesn't make it a Tibetan film , it is proudly and officially a Nepali Film as many Tibetans reside since ages in Nepal and the movie was shot totally in mesmerizing landscapes of Nepal . ​@sanjip9359 Nepal is nothing but a modern construct. It is just a meeting point of cultural sphere of surrounding Indian and Tibetan civilization. The low valleys of Nepal is dominated by Hindus (85%) population mainly reflected on diet of rice, dal and curries ( your name reflect the Indian origin of your cultural base) and typical Nepali dress resembling sarees. You celebrate Hindu festival and write in devanagri script. You are nothing but an offshoot of Indian civilization, without any civilizational legacies. Meanwhile the northern part of Nepal falls under Tibetan cultural sphere, as shown in this clip. So much so that they are almost indistinguishable from Tibetans. Fun fact, "Sherpa" is literally a Tibetan word which means "the eastern people".

@@eastern_xing5541 We Nepali are a merged community of totally different kingdoms and we are proud of our diverse ancestry and nation. We also have a sub civilization that was a thriving and wealthy nation state before the country was even united and they are the Newars of Kathmandu valley civilization from whom the Tibetans learned to write and develop their first ever script and from whom they received religious, architectural, and artisanal civility. Ancient India also benefitted decently from the Newar valley state as the Newars were great patrons for north Indian businesses there and were the facilitators of the trans-himalayan trade between India and Tibet. Today what the East Asian countries boast in terms of buddhist religion and culture were brought to East Asia by Newars and Mongolian emperors Tibetas who sought the religious knowledge of India and artisanal architectural expertise of Newars. Obviously the west Khas Nepali and Eastern Nepalis were not relevant to this grand history of central Nepal but we are still proud of our unity.

This is a cause for celebration for refugees all around the world. The lead actors in this film Sonam Topden, Tenzin Dalha, Loten Namling were born and brought up in Tibetan refugee settlements in India. Grateful for India for being kind hosts for us. i really appreciate the efforts and creativity of Shambala's Team. But as being a local resident of there i know deeply about my culture and language more than those outsiders right? but i found many nonsense topics and the language used in this film and some of the certain actions are out of our tradition and not relevant with our's decent way of lives which our elder generations never practiced so it seems like lack of proper research and it seems like without the consent/agreement of our innocent people.. which reflects commercial concentrated more than the aim of ascending the way of people's traditional way of lives and prospectives.. it should be observed carefully fellow Dolpopas. Our place is not that much cheap and our innocent people are no longer ships.. compare this film with carven and then reflects by ur self..

Actually this movie is about the people of Dolpa district in Nepal. Most of the actors are Tibetan descendants and the locals of Dolpa. The guy who directed this movie is from Mugu district of Nepal. We have many tribes who lives Himalyan region in Nepal are Tibetan descendants.
