"...We put some aspects into the shadow in order to either maintain our world view, maintain our ego or to cope with trauma and unmet needs... These aspects becomes their own autonomous mini-personalities that have to manipulate us, as the conscious personality, into getting their needs met!" So that's indeed the shadow in a nutshell! Thanks again for the reminder :)

Very helpful video!!! My mother told me all the time that I was just like my father, although he drank more booze in a week than I’ve drunk in my whole life, and I do more exercise in a week than he did in his whole life. He enjoyed being a jerk, in order not to be like him I became “Mr. Nice guy”, a people pleaser.

Hi Francisco. Great to see you in the comments. 🙂 It’s a common experience to polarize our identity away from being like a parent who was either difficult or who was frequently the subject of condemnation from the other parent or other members of the family.

I can relate to your example. I call it "politeness" and "non-confrontational", which ultimately translates to not speaking up for myself, having no boundaries, tolerating abuse, etc. I was able to integrate most of it, but still working on some lingering shadows.

As someone who suffers from chronic shame, this video series has been quite helpful. I appreciate the list-making and other practical suggestions. I keep wondering which qualities are so buried in my unconscious that I'm ignoring them. I suppose with practice it's like peeling the layers of an onion. In any case, much thanks for the insightful video.

I’m so glad I subscribed to your channel . I’ve been leaning a lot over the past year about Carl Jung and your video here is helping me to put the alchemical process together. At this stage I felt my ego had created a persona of a alcoholic and that what I needed was to change my ego system in order to change the person who was addicted. I’ve been aware of the shadow projection system from my previous AA work . I have a much deeper understanding now . Thanks for the video again

Thank you again for this suggestive information, Dr. Donald B.Calne's book Within Reason, explains that emotions lead to actions, and reason leads to conclusion. Another writer, Keith Whitt has suggested shame as an emotional gift motivates us towards course correcting responsibilities. When I become aware of the shame association in morally wrong behavior, rather than discarding or avoiding it through repression or blame; I reason changing inappropriate responses, creativity inspiration alters the awareness of my being, opening the passages of opportunities for accepting the life of intuition.

Hi Rhimera! Great to see you in the comments. 🙂 Shame can often seem like something that’s of benefit to us because we often do become more selective about the actions we’re willing to take. But shame fragments us and creates feelings of invalidity. It’s much more constructive to touch base with feelings like guilt instead of shame. Guilt is to feel bad when we do something wrong. Shame is the feeling “I am bad”. The former is helpful but the latter is often harmful to ourselves and others. With guilt we can have concern for others. With shame, we become so preoccupied with our own feelings of invalidity and coping with them, it cuts us off from having connection and compassion for others.

There’s this colleague who drives me insane (heart palpitations and all). He is often late, he’s like a tourist at work, he has bad work ethics, information retention, immature Peter Pan attitude (comes late to meetings, toxic ego, can't take feedback...), not familiar with best practices, not up-to-date with latest trends. I want to do the work but I am the exact opposite of these traits. How can I make peace with having him in my team? I wish I could integrate any of it if it’s in my shadow! Thanks so much
@TheDiamondNet2 жыл бұрын
One thing is to differentiate between simple discernment that his actions lead to negative outcomes and the internal judgment of “I am like this and not like that”. The latter is based in shame. What I recommend is to try to notice the positive points and diamonds in the rough of having his perspective on things. And then work on incorporating the gems you find in that perspective into your own life. But also coupling it with an awareness that all people are in a fundamental state of fragility. And even those who behave terribly are doing so because of something that “down the line” wasn’t chosen by them. “A person can do as they will but they can’t will as they will.”

Emerald. When I seen the 24 item list near the end of your video. It describes to me, Ernest Shackleton 2 yr Antarctic adventure and his leadership qualities, which is on one side of your list, which produced from his crew (Following) qualities, which is on the other side of your list. This combination made Shackleton and the crew act as one and survive the most incredible survival stories ever told. Is his story the integration of your list?

I saw one of your video about anima/animus... you talked about projection. That if we integrate it we will stop projecting. Nowadays I'm watching that that people are talking women should be more feminine and man more masculine so they can attract the opposite. are they projecting? What will happen if we stop projecting? what will be overall effect on oneself and relationships? what will be it's positive and negative sides?

Sorry, I know this doesn't really have anything to do with the video but...I've noticed that Jungian psychology is similar to the IFS model (Internal Family Systems), in that there's a lot of overlap. I was wondering how I can seamlessly meld the two philosophies together. So can you break down its similarities and differences for me?

Hey Emerald. Can you answer a question for me? PLEASE! Can you tell me why I keep seeing esoteric information stream into my conscious mind out of know where? One day I saw The Creation of Adam, The Rock of Gibralter, and The Scales of Justice blast into my mind like lightening bolts. Then for five more years I had a stream of consciousness go through my mind that showed me images of Jewish Mysticism and Shamanism. IS THIS THE COLLECTIVE UNCONSCIOUS? Pleas reply if you can?

Just curious on a few things. How come sometimes things people don't like about themselves don't get pushed to the shadow? Like if they're socially akward or aren't assertive enough etc? They're aware that they don't like that about themselves yet it's not in the shadow. Also, what's happening when people are attracted to their opposites? Like if a quiet introvert is attracted to an extrovert and vice versa? Thanks!

You should be making a living off this stuff. Of course, now I have to offer a (slight) critique. I'm both the hippie and the politician, but that's not to say I'm perfectly balanced. One side has to have "controlling interest" even if it's a close split (51/49%). We have to know what we default to in a pinch. Hence, there's always a tension between the two and the potential for shame any time the hippie-hedonist (in my case) overrides the politician. Unless I can come to appreciate that (even) the hedonist must have its day...which falls in line with your teaching. But such is a very difficult thing if your split happens to be 90/10%. All food for thought. Also note that the original hippies took their movement very seriously and might have changed the world had they not been watered down by hedonist-hippies. Thanks for all that you do.
