I love the 6 size. Glad to see you convert them into watch cases.

As far as I am concerned they are perfect. Anything smaller is too small, and anything larger is too big.

As a non-watch expert I don't quite understand Waltham's deception.

Jewels, or jewel bearings, are rubies or sapphires that are set into different parts of the watch movement. They are designed to help reduce friction in the moving parts. Their design provides a hard, smooth surface that allows the metal components to move freely. In non watchmaker language the pivot is where the gear's axle passes through the watch plates. In lower grade movements the steel axle can just be poked through a hole in the plate and that works. In a fine watch the plate gets a hole shaped jewel set in it and the axle runs in a very smooth jeweled bearing. In the train wheel jewels are always (except in this case) installed on each pivot of a wheel. In this case Waltham only put jewels on the pivots we can see, knowing that we would "know" that if we see one on this side, we would "know" that there is one we can not see under the dial. This is never done.

I have a CYMA Movement that is the same. No jewels on the dial side

I guess that the natural rubies cost a lot more back in the day than the synthetic sapphires that we have today?

@@Watchspotnet save a nickel doesn't sound like a lot of money until you do it 500,000 times. 😉

This is deceptive, I agree. You’d expect pivots that are jewelled on on😮side to also be jewelled on the other. That said, this jewelling pattern isn’t that uncommon. Waltham and others made 11 jewel movements and this is how they were positioned.

Yes, I've seen the 11 jewel movements. What really threw me was the size 6 rarely had the center wheel jeweled, and also rarely had gold plated screws. The combo of the two made me think it was really going to be a special movement. It is still a great movement and it runs like a champ. I'll be dropping the video of the servicing and casing in a wrist watch case at the end of the week.

@@Watchspotnet I’d likely have bought the movement on the same grounds and had the same surprise you did seeing the dial plate. Watching the video, until you compared the serial numbers, like you, I was assuming it had a mismatched dial plate from a different movement. That said, often the pivots are thicker in the 7 jewel movements, so I’m not sure if such a swap would be possible with this movement or not.

Oh wow very sneaky haha, thanks for showing us. In their defense, I don't think I saw a jewel number on the plate, so partial sneakiness? In regards to people melting the cases, that is something I find indefensible =(. I have a lovely 00s 16j movement (Waltham 5511489) I will never be able to case because of that. Anyhow, always happy to see a new video of your work, so please do show us the end result!

Yes, it is true they didn't write 12 jewels on the movement, that would have at least been honest. I will be dropping the video of the servicing and casing of the movement next Friday.
