Not in my case. As soon as I told my boss I was pregnant he congratulated me and started to give me lighter work and would even let me leave early so I can go home and rest. I am so thankful for that. But no one should ever have to hide it from their boss. Embrace and enjoy your pregnancy to the fullest.

I've been married for 2 years so I want to start a family but because I am pretty new to my job, I don't want to make a bad impression.

Right. This show has 4 female celebrities with only one who had pregnancy experience. She considered her as a role model but actually her life is not very relatable to most of American women. She's been a celebrity since her teenage time and has a great financial status. Other women aren't like that, so most of her preach is seldom practical and useful for other women.

This is so true. I work Corporate at an IT firm and I was nervous to tell people at work too. My company is 80% all men and I was scared nobody was going to be sympathetic about how terrible I was feeling. Luckily they were very accommodating so I am very grateful for that.

Sandra I feel the same, I’m currently looking at law firms for training contracts and one big thing on my list is how they cope and work with pregnant women and people with children. It’s also hard if you’re pregnant in the first few years as that’s when the workload is very heavy and it’s when you make the biggest impression for promotions

Anisa Islam good luck! I understand your point. Luckily for you they don’t discriminate gender for training contracts. It also greatly depends on where you work. The previous law firm I worked at was awful in the way they treated me so I’m lucky I’m now at a firm that values me. So be careful with that aspect too!

I'm not surprised at this. It's even hard getting your period in the workplace. I get painful cramps and a lot of the other symptoms that come with pms. Sometimes the pills aren't enough but ya still gotta sit there and get through the day. I even get paranoid about taking my bag to the bathroom cause I feel like I'm being judged.

I was emotionally and mentally abused by my boss. When I told her I was pregnant I thought things would change but nope she continued. I sued her for pregnancy discrimination. Praise God he blessed me and now I’m a stay at home mom.

America needs to make it easier for women at the work place. In South Africa you get up to 6 months paid maternity leave and your job is secure till you get back to work. Pregnancy is not looked at in a negative way.

It's so sad that this is what some many working expecting mothers or mothers in general have to deal with. It's terrible that when a woman wants to start a family of her own she has to take into account how her job will take this and if they will look down on her because she's pregnant. We as a country need to implement more avenues for working expecting mothers or mothers in general. Starting a family is beautiful and you shouldn't have to worry about your job when you do.

I understand your point but to a certain extent, you should. Anything can happen if you have a job and you're trying to start a family. You could lose your job(by either getting fired or quitting on your own)if you have to be a stay at home mom. Or if your employer feels like you won't be able to be there when he or she needs you. Anything can happen. Or your pay and hours could get reduced because you are a parent now. Not saying this is the only way it happens but a lot of factors can determine whether or not you'll keep your job when and if you're trying to start a family.

I work for Memorandum Translations in London and we are THE best when it comes to maternity. You get paid leave as soon as you announce that you are pregnant, then an extra 8 months PAID new mother leave to take care of your baby for the first 8 months AND you receive a "welcome baby" package full of gifts and vouchers for your baby. I am so proud to work for this company. It's so important to not waste your time and labour with companies who do not care for new mothers and fathers. Fathers also get paid new father leave and a gift package. #yaaas

I can't say I was shamed per say but my husband and I were months in at a new job working in the same place together and when I announced I was pregnant the supervisors initial reaction was that he it was a huge inconvenience for him. He was ticked that he'd have to find a replacement for me once I gave birth. So the rest of my time there I felt like it was a dead end job, like I had one foot out the door even tho I didn't want to leave. I quit two months early bc of health complications and I will say that before I left the staff threw together a beautiful baby shower for me and my husband and I'll never forget how they loved on me. I understand the inconvenience it caused, I just wished that he had congratulated me before making me feel like a pain for be being pregnant.

I'm a nurse and I didn't tell anyone I was pregnant until I was halfway through my pregnancy. I definitely feel like you get treated differently. Sometimes for the better, and sometimes for the worst. What I hated was when everyone knew I was already really tired but continued to give me the more difficult group of patients or patients they knew were more physically demanding.

I felt pressure to work harder when I worked for a restaurant. The other servers and hosts would make slick remarks like I was getting special treatment. And after, trying to pump breastmilk was almost impossible because they hardly wanted to give the breaks. They eventually started cutting my hours so I quit. Best decision ever

That is sometimes true. And while my work is done at a desk, while I was pregnant I didn't have any physical limitations. I got lucky, I got to continue doing everything I normally would when not pregnant. So I was literally helping my husband and siblings build a porch for my parents at 20 weeks and then assembling furniture and moving it around at 40 weeks. It really just depends, so automatically saying "You're limited while you're pregnant" is not always the case.

It depends on the job. When I was first pregnant I didn’t tell my job until I was 6 months and showing. I was so scared, and being in the food industry I was so nervous on being less than in my job. With my second pregnancy I was a preschool teacher. I vomited in the trash in front of a classroom full of 4 year olds. That was interesting, haha. Thankfully with my teaching job my teachers aid, and the preschool director were so sweet to me.

I work at an establishment for 9 years and I told my employers I was pregnant at almost 4 months because I wanted to get over that fearful first trimester before announcing it and by the time I was 5 months they tried to fire me, so I went to the revelant authorities and they had to give me my job back or pay me out, but by that time I didn't want the job anymore because of how I was treated because I was pregnant cause they didn't want to make slight changes to accommodate my pregnancy, so I got paid out and I left the job.

Yes we are! When I was pregnant with my son, my job cut my hours and refused to train me in another area. I had an emergency c-section and came back to work 6 weeks later to find out I no longer had a job. Especially in the state of Ohio, there is no job security anywhere, especially for pregnant women.

Actually, in Washington state in 2008 I was fired under false accusations once I told my employer I was pregnant. At the time, I found out the law was I had to work there for 1 year before the pregnancy, in order to be "safe". So, I was fired...

I got pregnant at 18, i dealt with so much hate and discrimination in my work place. I came to work everyday but was throwing up all day, they would refuse me my breaks and would threaten to fire me if i kept getting sick . Not once did i complain though and i would came back from the bathroom and get straight back to work. It got so bad that eventually i sat down with the GM and they basiaclly agreed with my managers they would even hear me out . I ended up quitting.. i then got a really great job offer but needed references, i put that place down because i didnt have many jobs legally they cant aay anything about me personally although they did anyways. They said "yeah that bitch got knocked up" and went off saying a bunch of stuff about me (they didnt tell me in very much detail other than they said terrible things about me). It was just ridiculous, people are so judge mental and rude nowadays..

Myronn Coleman I don't know if women are concerned about missing out or not working as hard, but I've heard stories of woman going out on maternity leave and not having a job when they got back. Obviously it's illegal to get fired for going on maternity leave, but companies will hire a temp that they intend to replace the pregnant woman. When she comes back from maternity leave, they reduce her workload and have the "temp" doing her job. After a while, the woman realizes her services are no longer needed and she has to find a job elsewhere. This happens very often. Employers are very savvy about getting around laws.

I didn't tell my employer or even family until I was in my second trimester cause I didn't want anyone to know I was pregnant yet, bc what if I miscarried in the first trimester (when it's most likely to happen) it just seemed like a better idea to keep everyone in the dark till the second trimester, but I'm pretty sure my constant morning sickness gave it away.. Cause no one was even surprised when I started telling people lol.

I work with attorneys and I don't have an office, so they designated one of the part time staff member's office my pumping room. They put blue paper over the windows and everything. It's so funny when we are there at the same time on Fridays. everyone go out of their way to make him leave the office for me. And he rushes out of there like it's an emergency 😆

There’s a very important issue that isn’t being addressed here. When a woman becomes pregnant we begin to PLAN. It’s our nature. If the pregnancy is without issue and the mom to be can continue along with her normal Job duties that’s wonderful! As a woman AND a business owner I’ve been on both sides of this. The stress of having to find a person to stand in for a mom while they take maternity leave can be difficult but with proper planning it can work. Now what comes AFTER that child arrives is what your boss is REALLY focusing on. Sick kids, snow days, school holidays, sitters calling off ect. It comes with the territory, we all know it. BUT, it usually comes down to the MOM to figure it out and organize how to “make it work”. Even when it’s a two parent home, the mom is typically the one having to make a few calls, see who can pickup the kids, drop them off, stay with them a couple of hours, seeing if she can go in late or leave a bit early. Men, are typically less prone to offer to step up and call off from work because as a society we are taught by example that his place is working and ours is with the kids. Now I’m not talking about the rare dads that exist and truly parent 50/50. Obviously they exist but let’s be REAL here, it’s not the typical situation. I’ve been married 10 years. We have a 7 year old. My husband is great! He cooks and cleans as much as I do. I work early so he’s the one who gets our son up, dressed, fed and out the door for school everyday. BUT, god forbid this kid sneezes! He will look at me in a heartbeat and say “ well obviously I can’t call off.” Men are looked down upon by other men when they step up in this manor. Disagree? Go to your HR Department and ask how many men have taken Paternity Leave? According to the Family Medical Leave Act, men have just as much legal right to take off as women do but they don’t. Now imagine yourself at work and you look around and go, “ Hey Steve is out again today. Anybody know what’s up? “ They answer, “ Oh yeahhhhh, he took off a month for paternity leave.” Most people’s reaction would be that of shock. We just aren’t there yet as a societal norm and THAT is where the true issue is.

I will say it's all up to God.... he is the only one who knows when the time is right! My sis thought she wasnt able to carry but when she turn 30 she got pregnant. I have 4 of my own but b4 I had my last I had a miscarriage and at that time, time was ruff.... and once things calmed down I got pregnant again.... God does things for a reason and he knows when its time!!!!

My sister is a supervisor and got pregnant a couple months after her assistant supervisor. Their timeline was lined up perfectly and it was unplanned. When her assistant went on maternity leave my sister was still there and when her assistant came back, it was her turn to hold down the fort.

Exactly how I feel. I am an electrical engineer and even though they have laws I feel as when my husband and I do plan on having a child I will be treated differently and will not be given certain projects to work on🙁

Lol at my first job at the Mentor Network it took 2 months to get the nursing room ready I was pumping in a closet with a desk chair only and when I followed up after a month I was told “things take time you’re going to have to sit tight” lmao the stress caused me to stop producing milk for my son that had surgery mind you this is a healthcare company and corporate at that & when I was taking a nap at my desk 8 months pregnant someone complained to my manager and she told me to take a nap in the BREAK ROOM or the BATHROOM my coworkers flipped out cus there were 2 other recent preggers too 🤣🤣🤣

My mom had just gotten a new job closer to home. She found out she was pregnant . We lived in Texas at the time and in Texas there’s a 90 day “trial” for the employers to choose to keep you or let you go. She worked at a clinic so her office was next a doctor and she had morning sickness bad. The doctor announced her pregnancy without even asking her. But it was on the 92cnd day so she didn’t get let go

I'm so thankful that the aviation company I work for did not just look at our Manufacturing Engineer as like a pain or loss because she was pregnant. She actually got promoted to the Production Supervisor (SUPER well deserved) in the last 3 weeks before she was due to go on maternity leave. She is coming back in the second week of April from maternity leave and we are so freaking proud and excited for her. 😁💪🏻💖🛩

I work in a hospital total patient care and while pregnant I had to be honest and tell my manager. She did not care. The staff made it worse for me. I had to go to HR. It is absolutely sad even with a Drs note with strict precautions. I ended up in the ER at my own hospital. smh

I am 33 weeks pregnant. I had to get a letter from my dr stating that I couldn’t lift certain weigh my because I do work at the airport, they wanted me to lift bags during my pregancy and I wasn’t going to loose my baby and my well being. It’s hard working pregnant

Olivia Simmons first of all I’m not complaining but like most people we have to work and I’m not saying working while pregnant is bad. And my husband does provide for me, but I’m not gonna be the type of women who stays home while her husband pays her bills. I do work too and I’ve learned that marriage is a team. I didn't tell my boss right away but 2 female coworkers knew and the night shift guy knew i was pregnant .. Later i found out the old night shift guy was telling my boss im pregnant and he should start looking for someone to replace me because "i wouldn't last long here" .. The boss never told me (oh by the way i was a temp at 1st at an office) finally my boss told me i can get hired on by the company if i wanted and if i had any questions. Thats when i told him im pregnant and my only question was will i be able to come back to work once i had my baby . I thank god my boss never made me feel bad over my pregnancy like the night shift guy did , im sure my boss not only seen i was good at wat i do here BUT he cant fire me either because im pregnant ... I now have my days of leave so i got from march18 till May 06 .. My due date is March 22... (Only thing my boss didn't like was that i talked to HR also to get 6 weeks off after having my baby, he claims he was ganna help me out and give me 10weeks but im happy with my 6 and still keeping my job )

With my first I had just got a job as a server and literally found out I was pregnant right after I passed my training. I was nervous to tell my manager. One of my coworkers who was excited for me let it slip one day in the office but it all worked out

When I was pregnant with my daughter I was working at a beauty counter I worked most of pregnancy but it was hard. I was high risk and my daughter was 13 pounds at birth. I stood most of the time at work and I had horrible hot flashes and morning sickness but I pulled through.

I said the EXACT same thing. Unfortunately you DO NOT always have control of what your body goes through and how the hormone change effects it. You may be uncontrollably tired, sick, throwing up DAY and NIGHT ALL the way through your pregnancy! Even if you want to work, your boss will tell you to go HOME!

My job didn’t let me take time off when I had a miscarriage I had to call out and I’d get lectured about it. They didn’t believe me whenever I had to have a D&C at the hospital so I had to bring copies of paperwork for them to make copies of and had to have the surgeon call them to confirm. Two days later I was scheduled. I called off. The following week I showed up to work and was in a bad mood and an emotional wreck because the managers blabbed to all the other employees about my miscarriage and everyone was asking me about it. The manager pulled me aside and said I needed to fix my attitude and sent me home. She took me off the schedule for that whole week. I was basically fired because I had to “call in so many times” when if they would’ve given me enough time to gather myself and understand I just lost a baby at 16 weeks pregnant I would’ve thrived so much more at work. They were so toxic. In the end it was a blessing in disguise that I got let go from there. I’m now 25 weeks pregnant and felt very intimidated to let the new job I got know that I was pregnant. I didn’t tell them until I was 19 weeks along in fear of them giving me less hours or talking bad about me behind my back. I now work from home but it’s a serious problem! They put in their contract that they don’t discriminate against pregnant women but their energy makes you definitely feel otherwise!

Did she say Bright Horizons? I think this is crazy! I work for that company and we actually just had a teacher that hide her whole pregnancy until the day she gave birth. I am not sure why, but I think it is crazy how this happened within the company that made the study. I wonder if women does this because people treat the different once they know that pregnant. I worked with a pregnant teacher before and I did not want her to do anything but she always insisted that she could do it. After this experience I learned to always ask her first. Just because she is pregnant do not mean she is not capable of doing the things she did while she was not pregnant.

Hell yea I was afraid! I hid mine for 8 months and the blessing in all of it was I physically never showed; I wore my regular clothes (and I was very tiny) my ENTIRE pregnancy, never had to buy any maternity clothing, started to show (but the smallest bump) in my 9th month so just wore leggings with a sweater. I delivered at 104 lbs, went home 2 days later at 90lbs.

HR kept out that i was able to get 2 weeks off which although isn't enough i saved my vacation days which they wouldn't let me fully use all of a sudden in case i didn't come back to work. I think America is stressing woman out about having babies earlier. When I was growing up, it was normal to see women having babies in their early thirties or late thirties. Now people are having them as a teen or early 20s and are done before the are 30. Then they keep stressing that complications start at 35 and I'm like where? Even seeing some women in their mid 30s and early 40s having kids and people in there 20s are like omg they are old. They must not be if they ste able to carry a baby. How is having a baby in your 30s so suprising and being a grandmother at 30 isn't?🤔
