Shampoo Ginger - Awapuhi, Stages of Growth

Awapuhi known as shampoo ginger is grown from rhizomes and is best grown in ground but be careful it can spread so the plant should be managed. You can also grow in large pots with well-draining potting mix. The plant is mostly grown in tropical areas and can grow to about 4 foot tall, thrives in partial shade to full shade. Needs to be kept moist. Very easy to grow. This is a floral plant.

What size of pots do you grow them?

I would do starters in 1-2 gallon pots (1-3 months of growth) but then I would move up to a 5 gallon pot or into the ground. This plant loves being in the ground and will spread so you may need to manage.

Does the nectar replenish?

Maybe once or twice additional, but the flower will eventually die back and will not produce anymore nectar. I would suggest you keep the soil moist to help the flower replenish until the flower dies back, but the flower will produce less nectar as it dies back.

Which climate is suitable for this plant?

The Awapuhi plant grows best in mild climates and indoors in colder climates. They like moist soil and shaded areas. They are very easy to grow.
