Attributes are something you inherently possess whether you express them or not doesn’t negate the fact that you possess them. An attribute does not need to displayed, expressed or demonstrated to others for their validity. So by their logic they’re saying that unless an attribute is outwardly demonstrated it can’t be possessed. 😂

A mirror is a reflective surface. How do we know ? because when light reflect onto it and reach the observer, they can see the reflection. Take that same mirror put is somewhere there is absolutely no light (e.g. a dark room covered with vantablack that contains a artificial black hole powerful enough to catch remaining photon without damaging the mirror). The mirror won't reflect anything. Does that mean it's not a reflective surface anymore ? No, it does not mean that.. because as soon as you shine a light onto it (providing there is no black hole no more, if previous example taken), the observer will see the reflection of the light even in the darkest room. The mirror, as it wasn't damaged/tempered with, still has it reflective property . That property is an attribute. People who use this as a counterargument to islam being true are sadly mistaken.

If there is a real honest person, and the next day he wakes up and he’s the only person alive, does that mean he’s not an honest person anymore? Because he cant express his attribute? Of course not! An attribute isn’t bound to the fact that it is expressed or not. You can possess an attribute without expressing it. Why make a big deal over simple concepts, these Christians man lol. Simply put, if I grew up isolated from humanity (for whatever reason) and hardly interacted with other humans, having said this, if I feel that I have the ability to be a kind, caring and loving person, it doen't mean that I don't have the ability to be kind, caring and loving, simply because I haven't come across people to be kind, caring and loving to. That's just a stupid argument, the kind, caring and loving attribute has always been part of my inherent nature growing up, sadly I just live in a very rural and isolated place. Soon as I venture out into the big wide world, NOW I can finally display the inherent attributes that I had, it doesn't mean that these attributes came about or just arose/began to exist now when I start interreacting with others. They are DISPLAYED for the first time, but it certainly doesn't mean I didn't have these attributes growing up isolated. Growing up isolated maybe I yearned for company all along because I know that I have a lot of love to give to people. The same goes for Allah, Allah before our existence has the ability to be merciful... the reason why he created humanity is so that he could DISPLAY his mercy on judgement day, it's actually illogical to think that God never held the attribute to of mercy prior to the creation being created and that he only acquired this attribute soon as he created us. What if the reason why he created us because he actually always had the ability to be merciful but wanted to put that mercy into practise? See, this argument would literally destroy the nonsense that these Christians are coming out with. The Christians are playing with semantics when it comes to this topic, their argument simply is that there must be people in existence in order for God to have the merciful attribute, if people don't exist, then God does not have that attribute yet. That's a flawed and ignorant way of thinking about it. Like I said earlier, this claim of theirs can easily be debunked, what if God yearned to display his merciful nature from the get go but had nobody to display it to, hence why he created us? Did they ever wonder that? Everything we have in our lives is thanks to Allah's mercy, if we make it to heaven In'sha'Allah, that would be thanks to Allah's mercy, the food we eat is Allah's mercy, literally Allah is displaying his mercy to us all this time and some of us humans have the nerve to act like Allah doesn't have a plan of what he will do, it is a really sad thing to try to discredit God almighty this way. Allah has always been the most merciful, existence itself is through the great mercy of Allah, oh Allah how can these people not see that their mere existence is due to your mercy, surely you had mercy as an attribute from all times in the past, and the future to come, your mercy is simply why we live, and logically Allah has to have had it before he created us.

@Tony DC there is no hostility, you are just reading too much into text which lacks vocal tone and body language, that's why you probably got the wrong impression. Just know that if you came across Muslims/Christians/Atheists/Pantheists etc, whatever they may be, and the individuals who change their points between themselves, that most of the time does not reflect what their scriptures or academic books have written in them. I know plenty of Muslims who are culturally Muslims, who don't know much about the actual faith and it's doctrine to it's fullest, so when non-Muslims speak to them, they just speak from their heart of how they feel such and such a thing should be or how they perceive things to be. Once you speak to a handful of these kinds of peoples, no doubt an individual will be confused as to why they might say different things about any one given topic. That's why it's best to speak to those who are qualified to give advice or speak upon a topic. Sadly many humans have the knowledge in front of them but never bother to look and read. That's why we have some odd questions thrown about in speakers corner (like the question if God always had the mercy attribute that I ranted on about earlier). It's best to learn from the main sources and look to qualified people to clear doubts, rather than to literally learn from laymen ...and sadly many people learn about religions (whatever the religion may be) through laymen people.

Even if I didn't learn from qualified people, Allah and his attributes is a pretty simple and straight forward topic, it's just those that are against Islam or try their best to find flaws with it, they make a big deal about something so simple and make fallacious arguments over it.

@Tony DC I wouldn't "not" think about what you are saying and I wouldn't reply willy nilly. People including Muslims should just be open and honest when people of other faiths ask them questions about their faith, if I am hardly a practising Muslim and someone questions me about a complicated topic (not this one), it's best to not just spout your emotions and feelings about said topic and just tell the other person that you are unsure about the topic at hand. Instead people feel it's some sort of defeat to admit the truth, so they start talking about what they FEEL about the topic rather than academically justifying their position on the topic. People of all faiths tend to do this, this should be avoided. That's literally what I am getting at. Questioning my level of understanding is somewhat irrelevant because we need to be topic specific. If you ask me about the nature of God in Islam then I can confidently say I know a good amount of information through academia...but if you asked me to speak deeply about the history of Islam within the first three centuries after the Quran being revealed, i'll be honest and say that this area I need to read more about myself so whatever I tell you, I might be wrong on some of it. So it all comes down to the honesty of people (going back to my original ramble, I felt the Christians were not being honest or genuine in regards to wanting to comprehend the angle of Muslims when the Muslims were explaining God's attributes and why he has always had them)

The answer is very simple God having any of his attribute does not require his creation because he is self sufficient. Just like if I go to a island where no body lives.
