You have to search it like that to code? I thought you would just code from the given diagnosis of the chart?

Sometimes you do if there is nothing else to use from the report. If in the operative report or pathology comes back with another diagnosis then you’d use that. Example: Patient has pelvic pain but then in the operative report they find a cyst on the ovary and remove it. You’ll use the cyst code and not the pain code.

How did you get the Hcpcs code i guess i missed that part

@@toriharris8762 I don’t use a HCPCS book but I know that is code that should be used when surgery is performed robotically. It’s hard to explain how you would find it when studying because I found out about it when training for my job and wrote it down in my notes. Hopefully, some study guides are mentioning the purpose/use for it.

How do you know what to look for?

You’re basically pulling out of the note what the provider/doctor did. At the top in the indications it lets you know what the patient is here for. Then in the body of the note is where the provider/doctor documents the details of that procedure/surgery. You’ll match what they have documented to the (CPT Code) procedure/surgery description. I tried to show the comparison in the video by reading the note first and then comparing it to my coding companion book with the code description. Hope that helps your question. 😊
