That happened to my high school’s assistant baseball coach during my junior year of high school during practice. He was never the same afterwards and has been dealing with memory and neurological problems ever since. I was a pitcher and this was always my greatest fear. I remember, during my senior year, taking a line drive to my thigh - hit back at me at probably twice the speed that I had I pitched it at. It hit me in the meatiest part of my body. I managed to pick the ball up and throw the guy out. I had a basketball sized bruise that wrapped around my thigh for about a month afterwards. Later the same week as my incident a first basement from a different team took a ground ball to his chest. His heart stopped and he died right there on the baseball field. And then, that same week, a track athlete from yet another high school was pole vaulting, missed the landing pad, and died right there on the field. That was a weekend of reckoning in my state and they just about shut down high school sports over these latter two incidents.

Could he medically not play anymore or was it physiological? Or both? Just curious. I was beamed in the head like that and knocked out with a concussion. Obviously not as serious as your friend, but it just sounded like after recovering he could’ve maybe play again no?✌🏼
@EdgarRoss1 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s the worst possible way to get hit by a ball. One time that actually happened to me. But very very fortunately just two minutes before that when we were in the dugout I put on glasses. Those glasses had ridge on them above your eye. So when it hit me, the glasses cut through my eyebrow which absorbed the impact and I didn’t get any sort of brain damage luckily.

@@KindMegphysiological would imply for medical/biological reasons. psychological refers to mental disorder

Yeah, b/c he can't claim to be tough unless he just stood there & took the shot off the cranium without flinching. Then, if he comes out of the coma, he can lay claim to being a BAMF.

He's lowering his glove arm early in every pitch. Keep it up, not only for safety and the chance of catching the crack back, but it'll be a more symmetrical motion and flow better. Still, that had to hurt.
