Thankyou Shane for saying out loud what most of us think. At some point, playing the victim has to stop and Maori need to step up to the plate and take accountability for their poor choices including how to be a good parent. If you choose not to send your kids to school, dont blame the rest of us including the Govt for your child's illiteracy. If you choose to spend your money on alcohol, drugs, and crappy food, dont blame us for poor health outcomes. Sick and tired of the gaslighting

If you join a gang, don't blame everyone else when you get locked up. If you don't get the marks, don't blame others when you don't get Uni entrance. All the bad "Maori statistics... by choice. @MadNuz No, you are right, but you choose what you do with your life. If you choose to join a gang and everything that it leads to; don't blame your ethnicity when you end up in jail for criminal activity. Nor for your health if you choose not to look after it, etc. Too much blaming and not taking responsibility for self all over the place nowadays.
@MadNuz
@MadNuz 2 ай бұрын
@@olsaffa7679yeah but it’s much harder for people to get themselves out of a shit situation who are born there let alone who have generations of their family in that space - they need support to get out. Past GOVs have tried the hardline - “ just pull up ya boot straps and work hard” approach yet the stats don’t change. This is besides what’s actually owed for land and resource theft regarding treaty settlements - settlements are a whole other thing.
@olsaffa7679
@olsaffa7679 2 ай бұрын
@MadNuz So let's not get into a "it's harder for this one than that one" competition. Help people based on their needs, not the ethnicity they identity as. Yes, the famous "Treaty settlements" should have been done and dusted but we all know that there are claims and counterclaims from here to nowhere. And the claims will never stop. Letting people think they have a claim to the tax dollars payed by someone else's (who is most probably a new arrival here) hard work is probably part of the reason for generational tax dependants. And no, Labour was so pro segregation with what they tried to force through government that the majority turned on them. I know enough successful Maori people to know that being Maori has little to do with if hard work pays off.

Thank you Shane, we are one people and have been for a long time. We have intermarried between multiple cultures and races and I believe are one people. My family are a multitude of cultures: English, Māori, Scottish, Irish, Cook Islander, Russian, Danish, Australian, United States American, Thai. We have brunette, blonde, different shades of ginger/red, grey and bald heads. The vast majority of us were born in New Zealand. This is similar to many of my friends. We are New Zealanders, we are one big family and we acknowledge all our ancestors. These so called radicals trying to cause division, hatred and violence between New Zealanders are traitors to our beloved country and should be arrested by the Military immediately on charges of treason. This nonsense has to stop before it gets creates an uncontrollable monster. If there is a problem it is rich people keeping the poor people in poverty that should be addressed in my opinion.

What has happened to the millions of dollars given to Maori Tribes? Why are they still not better off? Generations of Maori are still on benefits. I believe with rights also come responsibilities. There are thousands of immigrants in NZ who have been agrieved. They came here with nothing and made a life for themselves when there were no benefits. NZ already has a billion dollar debt, the handouts cannot continue in the current form. We all need to contribute and grow prosperity in NZ.

Wow. Just wow. That was truly amazingly ignorant. I mean, you just made no effort did you? Ngai Tahu, to name one iwi, has become one of the biggest institutional investors and employers in NZ. Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu is the sole Trustee of the Ngai Tahu Charitable Trust and Ngai Tahu Holdings is its investment arm. Holdings include fisheries, farms, tourism and property. Its assets are worth $2.28 billion. That was all done on the basis of the 1998 settlement of, from memory, $250 million or thereabouts. Waikato-Tainui, after initial hiccups got its act together and its asset base is something like $1.9 billion. So, Sunshine check your facts out before you let a pompous dick like Jones play you.

There are a huge number of bureaucracies in this country paid large amounts of taxpayers dollars to do something, who knows what, and so many of them are trying to do the same job, or not as it seems. Their CEO's in some cases drive expensive cars, administration costs take most of the funding, and so often this is all protected by the treaty or the threat of being called a racist. A brilliant exposition Shane. I would plead with people to learn our history.The Articles Treaty of 1840 is a simple document. The British signed their Littlewood Draft which was exactly translated into the Maori version was signed by the Maori Chiefs.There is no mention of any Treaty Partnership or Co-Governance.

Even apirana ngata believed we could live side by side. And I believe that too. I'm Ngati porou Ngapuhi. But before that, I am human first. Not bound in anyway. If this is to work, TMP needs to work with it. I'm not ashamed but kinda pissed off that we've become more distant than ever. As the years have passed we haven't grown as one impenetrable unit. We've been through more downs than ups. I'm glad I'm not race based I'm human first. And that's where my dignity lay. I have free will in whom to believe and bound by nothing to this land or the world in which we live in. Materialism means absolutely zero to me. What matters is my son's future. He's only 8. We need to fix this asap. Not just for my son. But all the kids behind us coming up. If we can secure our future, then theirs is secured too. Otherwise they'll be left with nothing but shame, hunger and anger. Do we really want that?

What I don't understand is how the Maori party can scream about the abuse of their children in care, when it's the failing of their own community to care and protect their children in the first place! If they took care of their children properly they wouldn't be in the care of Oranga Tamariki. Also, having worked for OT for 8 years as a foster carer myself, some of the abuse appears to be coming from the extended family members they place the children with, in an attempt to comply with cultural demands of the Moari they put them back in almost the same situation they had removed them from?. I suppose no one wants to state the obvious?

Well said Shane . .. you have the backing of the vast majority of non Maori in NZ ... This race based apartheid state has to end ... weather maori like it or not we are all in the same Waka and 80% of the rowers are not maori .... we sink or swim together ... and until we do the rest of the world is laughing at us ... and taking advantage of the old divide and rule tactic to milk us and end national unity ... this makes us weak in the global economic stage ... and leads to money flowing out of nz instead of into nz

There's many useful fools around (not Maori but those who were led to believe they have more of a right than someone else because some percentage of their whakapapa is Maori). The question is, who benefits from NZ tearing itself apart? Who is benefitting from the UK, Europe, the US... the West, tearing itself apart. Seems to me you are pointing in the right direction, but the useful idiots will never be prepared to see it.

I predict there will soon be a stampede of disappointed electors from NZ First to Act due to an apparent lack of action from NZ First. Actions speak louder than words, Shane. According to the NZ First/National agreement, NZ First agreed to: ensure all public service departments have their primary name in English, except for those specifically related to Māori, require the public service departments and Crown Entities to communicate primarily in English; not advance policies that seek to ascribe different rights and responsibilities to New Zealanders on the basis of their race or ancestry; remove co-governance from the delivery of public services, public services should be prioritised on the basis of need, not race; amend Section 58 of the Marine and Coastal Area Act to make clear Parliament’s original intent, etc. Shane also omits to point out that Māori activists want their own parliament as per He Puapua.
